You don't think Mueller rapid response protests activated, scheduled for Thursda.. isn't a bad headline then?
So true, it's better to do nothing instead
Well, the site just updated with "protests called for thursday 5PM local time" so the headline is now accurate. See you at the protests, everyone. I get the feeling they won't be shut-down-everything big, but I expect they'll be big enough to grab every news camera from here to January, which is all they need to do at this point.
Yeah, let's just hope they don't get hijacked by idiots like Occupy was and peter out in the exact same manner. Seriously, I still can't get over how we let Occupy slip from our fingers. It went from "Make Wall Street goons answer for their corruption!" to "college campus gender something??? idk im bored lets go sit somewhere and 'protest' lol" and lost all credibility. No one took it seriously by the end.
But we don't yet know if Whitaker will recuse himself, in which case he has no control over the investigation whatsoever, or if he will even be allowed to take the position, given that the senate hasn't voted either way.
Not what I'm saying at all. Protests should have happened months ago already, for instance when Trump was starting to put children in concentration camps. Personally I feel like this whole event gave people an arbitrary trigger to wait for, and made them think that they don't have to do anything whatsoever until the red line is crossed. Problem is that Trump and his friends had a number of options to dillute this red line, one of them being forced resignations. Now people don't really know whether the line has been crossed or not, and turnout is probably gonna be pretty low as a result, especially after an exhausting midterm. Furthermore, I think people are putting way too much faith into these protests, and are going to be massively disappointed if they don't live up to expectations. That's why I'm picking a more pessimistic approach, these protests won't be the solution to the problem.
They did happen when Trump started putting children in concentration camps. And as a result, the administration rescinded its family separation policy. The expectation isn't impeachment, yet. The expectation is to turn up the pressure on Whitaker to recuse himself.
While I totally agree that we should have been protesting much more, much earlier, we can't just defeat ourselves preemptively by not even trying just because the people we're protesting are going to attempt to deligitimize and ignore us, which would happen even if we were several tens of millions strong. Trump and his ilk would love nothing more than for all of us to sit on our hands convinced we can't do anything. They're counting on people to be pessimistic or apathetic. That's how they get away with shit like this.
I’m honestly expecting a good majority of these protests to end up like Kony 2012’s night of movement. like they’ll be big ones in Seattle but then for most of them, it will just fall flat on their face.
I can't leave town at the moment due to family obligations, pls protest that much harder for me
I'm absolutely fine with showing up to my local protest and find that I'm one of 6 people protesting of the 200+ signed up for it. Everyone else should be too. This isn't about getting together with buds. This is about standing up for yourself. This is about not being complicit.
That's why we made an organization that can make the go/no-go call on protests. The beacons are lit - we will answer. Protests in and of themselves can solve nothing. What they do (if successful) is force the issue to be dealt with. At minimum, they seize the national attention, make it the only news story on every channel and the headline in every paper. If they're big enough (and I don't these will be, at first), they literally shut down city centers. Hard to keep the economy functioning when half the office workers can't make it through the crowds, and the other half are in the crowds. And, of course, they act as a show of force. Right now, they're just chanting and waving signs. What happens when they're waving torches and throwing bricks? Or when they're waving AKs and erecting a guillotine in the National Mall? That's the implied threat that forces the government to deal with it - nobody in government can afford to ignore an angry crowd, because that can soon turn into an angry mob. And so a large enough protest doesn't have to get violent. The vagueness of the current threat will probably limit the size of the current protests. Which might be a good thing - the angriest and most burn-it-down-ey will sit it out, because this isn't a clear-cut justification for rioting. So instead, we'll get fairly large crowds and lots of camera attention. If Whitaker takes drastic action tomorrow, as is rumored, that will change things. I suspect MoveOn is banking on that - schedule the protests towards the end of the day, hoping something will happen during the day that gives everyone an inarguable clear-cut reason to protest. And that seems like a decent bet - whatever's going on, the Trump regime is clearly spooked, and they're moving fast.
My father is in extremely poor condition and can't be left alone
Ah, that truly sucks. In that case, yeah, I'll protest for two tomorrow up here in Ohio for you.
Even if it's a 'waste' (which lmao wasting your constitutional rights), so what? People should be protesting. Protest tomorrow, protest again if Whitaker doesn't recuse himself. Protest when they officially start strangling the investigation. Fuck, man, why not? People are acting like we only have one shot when we don't.
Posted in another thread, this article definitely solidified my feelings to protest tomorrow: https://www.businessinsider.com/doj-confirms-jeff-sessions-replacement-matthew-whitaker-will-take-over-mueller-probe-2018-11?utm_source=reddit.com
I literally have a medical procedure tomorrow where I will be undergoing anesthesia. I really hope I'm able to get up and move around by the evening
It's in Trump's best interest to make the transfer of power as sneaky as possible and make the line as blurred as possible. If you wait for the perfect smoking gun, you might not get to protest until it's too late. At this point it's transparent what Trump is trying to be, protesting against that now is entirely valid and useful in my opinion.
You are hereby EXCUSED from protesting
I'm gonna need a signed doctor's note.

Rosenstein is no longer relevant, man. By law, if Sessions stepped down Rosenstein was to continue as Acting AG, but since Trump blatantly broke the law by appointing a replacement acting AG without senate confirmation, the time to march is now. Mueller now has to report directly to this new stooge, since Rosenstein was only overseeing the investigation on account of sessions recusing himself.
Welp, time to watch as people make total asses of themselves and p.much accomplish nothing of real value.
Must be nice to make a statement like that in the face of the biggest attack on the rule of law in this country.
We've been doing that since Trump was elected
Time to be a snarky asshole
People like you suck. You never shut up about the 2nd Amendment but you have open contempt for the first. Piss off.
Why don't you go build some pipeguns, champ
Figures the biggest second amendment advocate we've got here would lose his balls at the thought of protest. Gonna go hide out innawoods, eh? Go. Criminals who are above the law are always fair game for vigilante justice in my eyes. Those complicit in Trump's crimes deserve what's coming to them - whether that ends up being a prison sentence or being torn limb from limb by an angry mob.
Exactly this. How else do you think Trump's Kremlin buddies get away with it in Russia all the time?
