So, as a first-time protestor, this is probably a stupid question, but... when does it end? Like, I'll protest every day until January if I have to, but I can't camp out in front of a random federal courthouse downtown for two months. I'm not even going to protest overnight. I think most people coming to local protests are in the same bag, and there's no sense in building a long-term protest camp town in a small city that's solid Democrat. So... does the protest just peter out when people get tired and head home, or is the organizer supposed to declare "done for today, meet back up tomorrow"?
When the police break it up or when everyone decides to leave. We don't need to stay overnight. We can just show up the next day. Organize with the folks who show up. Plan. Coordinate. They're not just your co-protestors -- they're your compatriots. You can be a team if you work together - and you should.
Potential to be the largest mass protests in US history. I'm there. Every one of my friends is there. Tens of thousands more in our city signed up, pre-planned, ready to go.
My turnout is likely to be much smaller -- but I am undeterred. That just means my voice will be heard even more clearly!
The largest mass protest was Trump's inauguration right
I think it was the woman's march at that time. Not sure if it was the largest protest ever, but I'm fairly certain it was the largest female protest.
Damn a real small town near me went from 100 protesters to 400 in just 8 hours. I've never protested before but I for one have had enough of the blatant shitting on our constitution and laws, so I'm going. Enough is enough.
It was the largest single day protest in american history
Huh, apparently my area isn't doing a protest? Something about "We are union the Nelson recount"? Ok, guess I get to work. Someone carry a sign for me please. Write something witty like "You are NOT the ruler of Mueller".
Right after Trump starts shitting his pants in the midterms. It's the perfect time.
Trump is asleep -- post sign ideas:
I don't think I've seen Facepunch like this before, if it's a glimpse at what the rest of the US is doing, this should be quite something. Good luck to all of you.
Been checking the website every once in awhile for the past few months and this morning. It's been hovering around at least 300. Now its almost close to a 1,000
Good luck fellas!
Remember that we're trying to create a better America for every American, which includes Trump supporters.
Define "supporters". If you mean the people who voted for Trump out of desperation, or because they honestly thought he might improve their lives then absolutely; we can, and definitely should, forgive them and work together. Those who continue to support him are a whole 'nother story, though, and I'd certainly not want to associate with the racist, delusional assholes - certainly not if they think we're going to just conveniently forget the damages they've supported along the way. We can't just forget that a person was killed as a result of the man they've backed.
I'll help create a better America for those sorts of supporters when they demonstrate that what they want is a 'better America' and not an 'exported Russia'.
Anyone going to these protests should watch out for Republicans in cars. No shit?
I think this might be a bit too soon.
With how publicized this event is, expect a number of Trump supporters to try stirring shit and incite violence.
As an American citizen living abroad, is there anything i can do to help out with the protests? Shit's getting wack and I don't want to sit this one out.
Rosenstein is no longer in charge of the Russia investigation, that was literally one of the red lines they couldn't cross. If you don't draw a line in the sand, then these protests will literally never happen. They'll just keep pulling tiny little steps and you'll go "Too soon" every time, until Trump is Fürher for life and you go "Eh, it's not THAT bad. Just keep going to work and living your life"
One of the conditions to start them was Rosenstein's firing. He's being replaced in his role overseeing the investigation, which is effectively a firing in the sense that matters. Seems like Trump may be doing this "softly" rather than an outright firing to try to fly under the radar. This may be the biggest trigger event he allows to happen.
Oh I missed that part. Yeah fuck it. This is the time.
Crimney. I feel bad for having to call in at work for this... But priorities, right? Wonder how bad it would be if I wore a paper bag with eye holes to this... Frankly I'm afraid my 7.9 on the ugly scale might be detrimental to the protests. 'Course it's going to be cold... Maybe I should get a ski-mask. Either way, I told myself a long time ago that if it ever came down to it, I'd go to the protests to support. I just hope it makes a difference.
I wonder how hampered this event will be due to its proximity to the midterms - I feel a lot of people would have been caught off guard.
You know how it is Nothing will be done, as always
I'll be at the Capitol building in Phoenix, AZ tonight. Me and my 2nd amendment loving ass. Fuck Trump, fuck tyranny, let Mueller investigate.
This point cannot be over-emphasized. Avoid violence at all costs tomorrow. Remember that Donald Trump and his base will inevitably vilify protesters. They will seize on any excuse to impose a "mob rule" narrative. Don't make their job any easier. https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2017/02/26/reichstag-fire-manipulating-terror-to-end-democracy/ Post in support of protests of social media, and share as much media coverage of the event as possible.
God damn I really didn't want to have to go to DC on a weekday
