Vice President has no term limits.
Sanders-Biden 2020!
Though this does bring up the question of what would happen if an ex-president already at their term limit, say Obama, was chosen for VP. Does line of succession just jump over them and go to the Speaker of the House? And if so does that mean the next president doesn't even get to choose their own VP?
I'm afraid I feel Bernie's chances at clinching the nomination have already been sunk, because of this: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-andrew-gillum-stacey-abrams_us_5be48626e4b0769d24cadd68 Regardless of whether or not you agree with his comments, especially after he clarified them after receiving predictable blowback, this is really going to come back and bite him during the inevitable primary brawl. And I'm saying this as someone who would still vote for him in the primaries (especially if Beto isn't also running. I'm warming up to the idea of him being the nominee real fast, particularly after learning he may have singlehandedly helped turn senate seats locally in Texas).
It would be very controversial and go to the Supreme Court. The 22nd Amendment says Presidents can serve for two terms and ten years total, those extra two from ascending to the presidency due to the death of the President. Any more then two years and it counts as a full term. However the 12th Amendment says anyone who can't be President can't be Vice President. So Obama may not be allowed to be Vice President since he hit two terms. Depending on how the Supreme Court decides though.
Ah, I legitimately didn't know about this bit so thanks for that.
https://thehill.com/hilltv/what-americas-thinking/415500-biden-leads-dem-voters-list-of-potential-2020-contenders-poll None of these - 30% Joe Biden - 25% Bernie Sanders - 18% Hillary Clinton - 12% Elizabeth Warren - 4% Kamala Harris - 4% Michael Bloomberg - 4%
Well, talk about a fractured party.
Twelve percent want Clinton to run again. Wow. Twelve percent of democratic voters confirmed batshit insane, then.
Or pretty much more reasons how much these people are so not different from Trump supporters, Right-wing voters or mindlessly Hivemind cultists.
I really would love to see Beto run, his charisma and approach with people are fantastic. I can see him winning the hearts of both progressives, moderates and even a large chunk of conservatives, he seems to be the kind of contrast that is needed right now that can stand up to Trump.
Her biggest support comes from black people and, surprisingly, asians. Also overall women want Biden while men want Sanders.
Beto or Bust. O'Rourke or O'Ruin.
I think Steve Bullock is lowkey fairly progressive and still has a moderate appeal to him. I'm really happy his Health and Human Services admin expanded medicaid coverage to cover transgender transition care since I personally benefit from that.
The survey, conducted among 680 registered voters who identified themselves as Democrats or independents, found that "none of the above" was the most popular choice among potential 2020 challengers to President Trump. I don't think that sample size is super great. Take that poll with a grain of salt.
Bernie's best chance to run would've been after the Clinton administration, if you ask me. He was much younger then, full of the same fire that burns in him to this day.
Warren would now unfortunately kill any chances of democrats winning 2020 due to the Indian DNA test thing and she's a laughing stock of even the democrats as well. Bernie is too old and would need a strong VP Biden again is too old but would be a great VP for any candidate Beto's only big vice is his DUI/hit and run conviction but he was able to I guess redeem himself, he might have a chance esp if Texas was to flip blue Everyone else sucks
NYT's 2018 midterm polls all had 500 responders, 1000 is the best but 500 is fine.
Bernie Bloomberg vp
Christ no, I don't think you could've made a worse combo
Wow, that's quite the list of faces and names. Lots of these I'm sure most Americans have never heard of -- they will have quite a bit to think about while the real main contender plots his reveal. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/2082/7fd1afc4-a29e-43af-b3a4-a60e9f4a862a/Untitle1d.png
What do you US guys think of Bernie / Ocasio-Cortez?
Bernie is only 5 years older than Trump and Hillary. They're all in their 70s. And I imagine Bernie had a much healthier life, he's full of energy when Trump's fat ass couldnt get a ride to the american cemetary. The age is not important to me here when he's clearly well conserved and his mind is still sharp, the policies and the odds of winning matter most.
To the people in here saying Bernie is too old, what specifically are you worried about? That he'll croak mid term? Mental faculty?
That's a very good and fast way to lose right out of the gate.
I feel a lot of people will think Ocasio Cortez is too unexperienced in politics. Not that it stopped Trump, I dont see why republicans can fuck every rules and standards of politics and democrats still have to abide by them. I'd love actual progressives and non establishement people to win the primaries, but not if that costs the election and mean another round of GOP hell.
I'd agree, but would people not think the same of Beto?
Beto was volonteering for politicans campaigns since 2002, was part of the El Paso city concil from 2005, and has been a democratic congressman since 2012. So about 13 years of political experience. I'd say he's more ready to take on a national campaign.
But Donald never shuts up about how mean the news media is to him.
That all makes a lot of sense. I agree about the rent comments being poorly thought out. Didn't realise Beto had so much volunteering experience.
