Yes, it was a lie then and it's a lie now, but now we have increasingly concrete proof of it.
Although I have no doubt you didn't mean it this way, we need to stop saying this.
This isn't a perjury trap. This is just Donald Trump being forced to commit perjury to avoid confessing to crimes.
That's not a trap, that's him having committed crimes and not wanting to admit to them.

It's just a joke. There were a bunch of Republican commentators and officials who justified Trump not wanting to be interviewed because otherwise Mueller would try to catch him up in a "perjury trap" by asking convoluted questions and judging any minor discrepancy or misremembrance as perjury.
Of course the joke is that Trump is a compulsive liar, so the idea that someone would need to set up an intricate trap to get him to perjure himself is comical.
Can't wait for Mike "Zap the Gay Away" Pence as president.
