Don't really care about anonymity so I'll just shitpost here. I think the federal government should enforce much stricter regulations against a good number of the Southern United States for their continued efforts to disenfranchise and segregate citizens based on their race/ethnicity/sexuality. It was less than 200 years ago these same states openly rebelled against the Union under the pretense of defending their "States' Rights" which at the time included the right to practice slavery. I don't give a shit about your attempts to label the Confederacy as a misunderstood act of patriotism or however you want to mislabel it. The exact same thing is happening again; the only difference being the government isn't cracking down on these practices as hard as it should. The fact that this shit with gerrymandering and obviously corrupt local governments is still allowed to happen practically unchecked is absolutely disgusting. There's a difference between free speech and hate speech -- they are in no way mutually exclusive -- and I honestly think people should be jailed for spouting their white supremacist ideals around.

Completely agree. People use freedom of speech as an excuse constantly for racism, like white supremacy is some sort of legitimate political stance. It's not and people should be punished for being white supremacists. The whole idea that if you ban them from saying racist shit it'll just "bubble up" is bullshit, because the only difference is that now instead of being openly racist, they now fear being racist in public and they're forced to adhere to non-racist thinking, and I don't think that's a bad thing.

I guess I'll explain why I feel differently on the issue being discussed. The concept of free speech, truly free speech, is really something that is indescribably alluring. The idea that someone has the freedom to voice their opinion, their thoughts, their feelings, is just beautiful to me. And I wouldn't want that standard compromised for anything. Even when the beauty takes the form of something ugly or distasteful, it also reminds me that we live in a society that allowed it to be spoken, and I think that's a wonderful thing. When I mean I want my standards of free speech uncompromised I mean it. No matter the consequences whether it results in offence or even death. Because an unwavering, equally protected, and universal right such as the right of expression is worth infinitely more than any number of lives it could realistically cost. The ability for an individual to be known for what they believe in, to be honest with the world about what they think, you really cannot put a price on and should be protected at all costs. I want White Supremacy to die down, I truly do. But I am not willing to sacrifice one of the greatest and most "just" concepts that this nation has adopted to protect in order to do so. Other methods must be used, because the freedom to speak your mind is something that is worth dying for in my opinion, and the freedom as a whole should not be limited just because a minority of people use it for evil. An undermining of that freedom undermines us, all and I am not willing to let that happen just to mitigate this one issue. It saddens me that people are lacking passion in this regard.

Focus on what supports the American people, not profits the ones in power! Build a foundation, not a wall! I just wish there was a shadow regulatory board that stopped world governments going too far left or right. I feel like everything these days is an attempt to rile up some opposing side, be it politically or just online. How many times have you seen a reasonable discussion on social media like twitter instead of attacking the other view, real or imagined? This seems like a weird thing to confess in 2018. Like I could get saying it in December 2016 or January 2017, or even really early on in Trump's administration, but saying that Trump is an unquantified variable while Hillary is a negative through and through this late in the game is downright bizarre. Especially when you see the overlap between her and Bernies policies.

Both online, real life and in the mainstream media I rarely ever have a good interpretation of them. The world is falling apart because of apathy, stupidity, and ignorance. And frankly? I don't care anymore. There is not and never was a good, stable United States that we could conceivably return to once the current state of politics "blows over". The United States has been a white supremacist plutocratic hellstate since before its constitution was drafted and has remained as such under even the most allegedly progressive leadership it has had at any point. I'm seriously considering a run in the VA07 Republican Primary in 2022 (because it will more than likely be the first election without large blue energy behind it) as a much more moderate candidate with more relaxed views on abortion, marijuana, immigration, and even exploring paths to certain programs like UBI as an alternative to some social programs but still understanding some of those concerns. Brat and Spanberger are the examples of when districts settle. 2022 is the time to reform the party or to truly understand that it should die off. I was the poster that mentioned wanting to have a kid and being uncertain with the future of climate change. A poster mentioned I should adopt. There's a couple reasons I don't consider it an option. 1) It doesn't avert the probability of having to raise a kid in a world where civilization may collapse or be dramatically different before I'm dead 2) If my previous confession didn't make it clear, I worry a lot. If I adopt I'll always wonder if I'm not a good enough father because I'll wonder if I don't love my kid the way I would love my own. I would never be able to know for sure, and I'm not sure that I would forget that. 3) My disease was some kind of genetic freak accident. It's supposedly hereditary, but in my entire extended family only myself and my brother have it. It's possible that my child won't inherit it. Even if they do, knowing about it early on can make treatment for it a great deal less expensive. I know it's selfish to want to have my own kid when there are kids out there waiting to be adopted. I just can't see it happening.

There is so goddamn much I can't stand about the political climate on FP. There's maybe 4-5 big scary posters that are right of center and yet the overwhelming left population still has the nerve to act like they're a scrappy gang of outnumbered rebels. Don't give me this fucking bullshit about how much it sucks here, I have a better fucking life than I ever did living under your shitfaced bloodthirsty mutant politics of "American Conservatism" I am a hardcore liberal but believe that people with serious genetic issues that are likely to be passed on to the next generation should not be allowed to reproduce. Currently, though, science has at least allowed some movement away from said disorders. Oddly enough I'm 50/50 with the idea of modern medicine allowing these disorders, etc. to exist. It's almost too late to mitigate that point because of superbugs, and other superviruses that modern medicine created. In addition, I remember taking an ideological quiz in philosophy about the conflicted views people have, and I was called out by the professor on this point. He argued that because I was a socialistic liberal, that it goes against the nature of my views that I should also hold a belief like that. However, I argued that it was facile to allow some interpretation of my views to be conglomerated with the majority of others, and that although I am extremely laissez-faire on certain social issues, it isn't the same case on certain issues. I.E. although I believe very strongly in personal freedom and rights granted by the state, that doesn't mean that the state should allow domestic abuse in order to be hands-off. I wish America was seen as less important and desirable to my country. The way people glorify America over here is disgusting, since they mostly ignore how terrible the US actually can be to their own people. I don't think things are all that much different than they were four years ago, or ten years ago. Most people on FP are hyperventilating manbabies. You don't need to own a fucking gun. People on Facepunch are so unrelenting in believing in the "right" to own a gun. It's not good just because you call it a right. Why the fuck should the average person own something designed with the explicit intent of killing things? There's 0 need for it. I do love watching people have a fucking seizure anytime anyone even remotely suggests that it's a bad idea to own a gun. We should just execute all of our politicians in the U.S and replace them with an AI. Fuck people As someone in the UK I find the cuts to welfare and the NHS abhorrent. I think the Conservatives deserve to be threated and attacked with violence for their policies. Perhaps part of me wants to give them their own Jo Cox, only they deserve to be attacked after fucking over some of the most vulnerable parts of society.
