It's not surprising when their ideas are met with shitty zingers, rabid dogpiling, and the assumption of disingenuity. Let's not pretend here that facepunch is this bastion of people waiting for good debates. It's just a place waiting for the next person they can shut down and stroke their egos.
Everyone has to deal with shitty zingers and the assumption of disingenuity but I'd really like to hear what you have to say about "rabid dogpiling", and how many people you think should be allowed to respond to individual posts.
I mean I've been firsthand at the dogpiling but that's also because my ideas are....strange.
I got dogpiled to shit during the 2016 election, and in the past on certain topics. It's called "having an unpopular opinion".
I'm fairly certain every user here who doesn't mainly lurk has been dogpiled at least once.
It's the reason I lurk, although not so much FP's fault for doing as it is my anxiety's fault for running my consciousness. I'm not as politically knowledgeable in general so I don't think it's ever happened in this subforum because I don't post much, but I used to post a lot in various game threads and the old TF2 subforum and it happened there sometimes.
It's not a question of what's "allowed", it's more a question of common courtesy. If I already see that someone has 2 or 3 replies with questions or counter points, I'm not going to add on to that pile. I'm going to wait. We're all quite aware of which opinions are unpopular, regardless of which side of the spectrum they are on. I think that it should be expected (but not necessarily required) of users, especially veterans of the forums, to recognize when dogpiling is likely to occur, and take steps to try and mitigate it. For example, you, I, or any other user could try to take some points for them in a format like this "I think what (user) may be trying to get at is X. Is that correct?". This takes away some perceived hostility, and shows the user that some users out there are genuinely trying to understand their point and actually debate with them, not just shut them down. I think we've all been on both sides of the proverbial "dogpile". We all know that when you're on the giving side, it just seems like you're trying to have a debate. But on the receiving side, it feels like you're just being drowned out by a mountain of questions and points. And for a lot of people, it's not that they can't answer every single one, it's that it becomes too overwhelming. If we truly want polidicks to be more debate oriented, and we actually want to here opposing opinions more, we need to be conscious of this.
Getting ganged up on for your opinions is part of the Facepunch experience.
If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.
I'd call myself "left", and this place regularly does that with some of my opinions. This isn't about you being on the right.
Just because it's something you don't have a problem with, doesn't mean that it's not something others have a problem with. Also, lol at me being "on the right".
It does that with some of your opinions (almost definitely your more right wing ones, i.e. gun ownership). This place does that all the time with right wing and even traditional centrist opinions. If you don't toe the accepted left line you will get dogpiled. That's fine, this place is populated by many left-wing users. Fair enough. But let's not lie and say this place isn't a left-wing hugbox that is highly resistant to any possibility that right wing viewpoints potentially make good points.
I don't think it is a hug box. I don't really care if, or when, I get dumb bombed. I'll say what I'm saying, I'll say what I'm thinking, and if some people want to react like babies to it they can be my guest. I can think of a number of people here who piss me off with the speed of their reactionary bullshit, and the thoughtlessness it presupposes, but that doesn't mean this place as a whole is a hug box. I go to reddit, kotaku, and some other forums. I don't call them my home, or even a place I really enjoy, because those are hug boxes. Those are places where discourse, and dissent is fundamentally impossible. That isn't the case here.
I'm much further to the left than most of the users here and I disagree. What's the 'accepted left line'? My advice to the right in general is maybe they should make better points. Sure, typical forum shitpost gangbanging is bound to happen, and that's what mods are supposed to be for, but the overwhelming majority of the dogpiling I see is deserved. Either someone is making a shitty, fallacious argument, being whiny or disingenuous, not citing sources, or they're just being an asshole and they have a snarky, bad attitude.
The problem is that, especially have late, right wing viewpoints have gone off the fucking deep end, and for the most part they reject reality and substitute their own, and that's not just on FP but throughout society as a whole. You have people on the right heavily supporting incredibly bad ideas such as Brexit, without any evidence of what good it can do despite the mountains of evidence of how bad it can be. People here aren't dogpiling right wing views for the sake of them being right wing, they're dogpiling them because the majority these days are legitimately stupid ideas that ignore the reality of the situation. I'm sure all of us here have no problem with someone like Grenadiac, who is a traditional conservative who actually cares about his country and just wants to make sure traditions don't die, because he's not someone who's here to just troll or otherwise actually believes in legit conspiracy theories, and has a more nuanced view on things such as the current president more than just "TRUMP GOOD LIBTARDS BAD."
Maybe if 95% of right-leaning posters could present a coherent argument, you wouldn't have that problem. Calling FP a leftist hugbox is about on par with a lot of right-wing posters in terms of how much effort they put into posting most of the time.
It isn't a hug box But it is friendly to lefter leaning people spewing politicized nonsense than it is to the right. I think it's a pretty balanced place in the context of the internet, where you're unlikely to find communities that even remotely sit on the "centre".
not anonymous but i still think we should use nuclear energy windmills and solar panels are nice and all but the yield of one nuclear power plant is so much more worth the relative cost solar panels are nice for individual homes to reduce the strain of the power grids, sure
Ug. Chonch angry. Chonch want read more confession, not two page of talk. Working on a few. Send me ones you like on Discord and I'll add them to a compilation.
The problem about left- and right-wing politics is how there's no desire between politicians from either branch to cooperate with the other. If half a country votes for a right-wing party and the other half for a left-wing party then both of those parties should be forced to cooperate & compromise on their ideologies. Democratic Socialists of America is similar to the Libertarian Party. If identities are going to be made out of socialist and capitalist labels, and problems and solutions attributed to either side, I'd rather ideological concepts like these be exceptions to the first amendment, and users and peddlers sent to prison with mandatory minimums. Count Dankula should've got more than a fine. I think him and other right wing YouTubers are genuinely dangerous, they've got followings full of kids. These are the people teaching the next generation. I'm probably overestimating their reach and popularity but never before has such shitty, dangerous media/politics been so accessable. Holocaust denial, "race realism", anti-Semitism, misogyny etc. It's all there, stuff that would never be broadcast on TV ever available to be consumed at any hour of the day on the most popular video service. It genuinely concerns me and sometimes feels like hardly anyone has noticed. i think people shouldn't care as much about the political opinions of people who do not and cannot hold enough power to act upon them, to the point they choose not to associate with them at all because they believe something stupid or incredibly deluded. it is actions and behavior that should dictate whether a person is associated with or not, because total isolation from differently thinking people only serves to further entrench terrible beliefs, whether due to falling further down the rabbit hole alone or being accepted and radicalized by likewise thinking people who find it easy to do so. if anything, befriending these people gives you a lot of power to slowly influence them into forsaking those opinions, because it is easier to listen to a friend than some random who tells you that you're deplorable and inhuman, no matter how justified they are in doing so. in fact, it is exactly this acceptance that extremists exploit in the social outcasts, much like cults do. a person can have terrible and dangerous beliefs and not be a terrible and dangerous, irredeemable human being. there's a difference between associating with someone that holds bad opinions, and enabling them to proliferate those same opinions. I've always been left leaning and I guess an SJW sort from my upbringing, my parents always made us aware of injustice and prejudice from a young age. Around the lead up to the 2016 US election and when gamergate was taking a hold in the FP community I genuinely considered leaving FP as i felt the community had started to become too toxic and too right wing for me. I felt as if my own views were at polar opposites with the vast majority of the community. But after Trump's win, it felt like FP really grew up, SJW stopped being used as a slur. I've since felt more affection and a sort of pride for FP. There are still terrible views and users about, but they get put down pretty quickly If we hadn't cremated my grandad, who fought against Oswald's BUF and later actual Nazis, we could've hooked a generator to his feet and used the spinning he'd be doing at the political climate as a source of green energy Facepunch's news and politcial subforums have taken such a nosedive in quality that I find myself looking more towards other forums, as moderators there are far more strict and far less forgiving for low quality posts. SH and Polidicks have become just needless +1 posts (which are baffling when ratings exist), low quality posts constantly repeated (Fuck Trump in every Trump thread, for instance), driveby shitposting, and far-right dumbasses getting dogpiled whenever they show up. People rarely discuss the article in the OP, preferring instead to make low quality posts and seemingly wait for a troll and/or idiot to respond to. It's as if the only appeal of SH and Polidicks these days is to laugh at idiots. I wish this would stop, but I don't know how to do so without stricter moderation and new rules, which could potentially drive posters away. Also, some of the posters here really need to calm down on the hysterics. Take a deep breath and really consider what you're doing and thinking. Some of this stuff is seriously dangerous and unhealthy, to yourself and others. If you get to call all men violent and rapists, then I get to call all muslims violent and rapists. That's a fair deal.
Weird. My submission hasn't made it on yet.
mesilly = true; if(mesilly){ print("sorry man that makes sense, carry on using these); mesilly=false;} Sometimes, I just want to see how further we can go. How dumber and funnier, in a morbid way, things can get. Take the saudis who killed that reporter. They made up some seriously stupid bullshit at the level of those "mind illumination" memes, whatever they're called, people batted an eye at them, and then proceeded to continue their lives. Trump just does whatever, and only a select few do anything at all that directly impacts him. Not that the people should start doing serious dangerous stuff against him but... The man flip flopped on LGBT rights in such a way that he looks like he's saying "fuck you lol" to everyone. Putin is almost unstoppable, keeps doing shit, and nobody dares mess with him. Saudi Arabia and everything and everyone following the rules imposed there should be fucking desintegrated into ashes that dissolve in the wind in mere seconds over how FUCKED those places are to anyone but men, and nobody does a thing, which I kind of get why but... Holy shit theres people dying over being raped. You get raped, and then you're executed because of it. Holy fuck. Heck, even my country has a massive ton of shit going on. The problem of the month is bullfighting or whatever. Those rich fucks with a stick of money up their ass pay quarters and excuse themselves either in ways only spoken by monsters, or with "ItS aRt! LeAvE uS aLoNe DURRR", and meanwhile firefighters, people who need care like sick kids or the elderly, hell, pet animals even, pay out the ass for whatever they need professionaly or not. Not to mention politicians and other people who shit money monthly come crying saying "I CAN'T LIVE WITH 4200 EUROS A MONTH WAAAAAH". Sometimes I just wish real vigilantes were a thing to erase this trash that feeds on society. I seriously considered the best way to murder Trump for a phat second I understand the pre-disposition towards ENLIGHTENEDCENTRISM; assuming each side of the political spectrum has reasonable parts but becomes unreasonable towards the edges just feels correct. Like each side has some amount of bias and the middle is the most grounded way to view politics. But I don't get how you can think that in the current day when a lot of conservative policies and ideals are aimed at getting power and keeping it, even at the expense of the health of the country. I don't get how you can't put 2 and 2 together and see Donald Trump as anything other than a corrupt liar whose goal is putting himself on a pedestal and defrauding the country. Everyone posting these anonymous confessions advocating genocide or feeling "persecuted" for being right-wing are fucking retarded. For the former, go outside and seek help, you have issues. For the latter, go to a right-wing website where everyone will agree with you or form better arguments instead of shit-posting. Also if you're one of those guys who's opinions consist of being okay with locking brown kids in camps and the like, then complain when people think lowly of you, I don't know what you were expecting. This is what you get when people are allowed to express their true thoughts. "Niggers and faggots and trannies should stop being so annoying, my feels are more important than facts, the only thing I care about is getting mine." This is why people on the left treat you like a subhuman. Because we already know this is what you think. I wish the world was simple enough where we could all agree, and be nice to each other and live without conflicts of ideology, but it will never be that easy. After a certain point many years ago, I just became apathetic, and that's really the only political stance I'll ever have now. I don't vote, and I probably never will. If it was compulsory, I'd just make the vote blank. Politics and politicians have been screwing over people for many years before me, and they will continue to do so long after I'm gone, even if I put my greatest effort into it. Whatever happens is just part of what comes with living.. a fact of life. Like taxes, bills, and working for a living. There will always be some adversity, so I don't spend any effort sulking because of it, nor do I complain to others, I just ride with the punches, even as a double minority myself. I embrace controversy in politics only because they keep the news entertaining, and the world interesting, even if I absolutely disagree with the statements and positions. Also, people take the ratings way too seriously. No wonder we keep doing it when you get so easily peeved by it like a baby. Vent list I wouldn't bother to bring up publicly online. Expect a big aimless ramble. * Voted for Trump and didn't regret it. Did regret lack of better options. * Bernie is not nearly as much of a saint as people make him out to be. * Every time Hillary tries to be relevant again and the younger left sighs/ughs, it's music to my ears. * There is inherently nothing wrong with the Electoral College. * There is an issue with only having two viable parties in the US. * Political tribalism has gotten extreme and is hurting any public discourse. * Political fact-checking has gotten to the point where people would rather someone else tell them what to believe and not-believe, rather than investigating any of the sources or putting effort into it. It's disturbing and coming from both sides, imo. * News stations have become so outwardly biased it might as well be called propaganda at this point (on both sides.) * I'm confused how the violence-avoiding, anti-gun, noodleboys on left suddenly thinks they're primed for violent revolution. Every Antifa protest has been a clownfest. * FP PD is an echo-chamber, but at least it's a fun political-view snapshot versus outright bot-spam on places like Reddit where "orange man bad xD" topics on non-politically affiliated subreddits shoot to the front page in minutes. * Choosing people or having quotas on attributes they can't choose or otherwise identify as (race/sex/sexuality/religion) in the workplace is fucking terrible and inherently offensive to those people. * Have no issue with transgender as a concept, but there does need to be a line when it comes to competitions/bathrooms. MtF competitors have a grotesque advantage. * Forcing transgenderism or even allowing your child to make life-altering body decisions before they're of-legal-age should be considered criminal neglect. * Guns are great, but gun control needs to have better background/mental checks. Non-longarms (ie pistols) should be strictly regulated versus longarms (full-length shotguns, rifles, etc.) Capacity/"Assault Weapons" regulations are a waste of everyone's time. * Glass California * Illegal immigration is an issue. An illegal laborforce doing jobs Americans wouldn't isn't an excuse - all it's excusing is third-world practices by corporations when they can get away with it. Giving illegal immigrants amnesty or a free pass is an insult to all legal immigrants. * It doesn't matter whether climate change is real or not, being decent to the only planet we can currently occupy should be a top priority. A lot of childless/family-less politicians don't give a shit when dirty energy is shoving wads of cash in their pockets hand over fist. * Nuclear power should've been mainstream by now. Thanks to fearmongering, it's become such a trope that idiots have to regularly be educated whenever it's brought up. * People slap the table about every school shooting while ignoring daily and often more deadly gang/cartel violence. Media won't stop glorifying the mass shooters either. Fuckwads. * Owners of the gun(s) should be held responsible for the crimes they were used in. If you let your kid/sibling/friend get a hold of your firearm and they go on to kill someone with it, you're at fault. At the very least, partially. * Bring back the video subforum you fucking COWARD.
i'm starting to get the impression that most if not all of these "fp is a libtard echo chamber" posts are probably just the same couple flamingly butthurt dudes over and over
People keep saying that Polidicks isn't tolerant enough of other opinions, specifically for the most part right-wing opinions, and I'd be inclined to agree with them considering some of the dogpiling that goes on, but the problem is that the majority of right-wing viewpoints are just straight up no longer reasonable. A good example is Brexit. The entire case of Brexit is straight up pants on head retarded, and is going to bring the UK to its knees more than any loss of power has over the past 70 years. And yet you have users like Boilrig defending it. That's the reason we dogpile these viewpoints. Not because they're different than ours, but they are actually legitimately stupid, and have no basis in actual reality. I'm willing to respect a conservatives opinion that we should maintain a balanced budget, because yeah our debt is getting out of hand. I cannot respect a conservative opinion that in order to do so we should reduce taxes and let the wealthy skullfuck the country, running off to overseas bank accounts with the money when that goes against the very fabric of reality of what taxes are meant to do. There's a difference between someone like Grenadiac, a traditional conservative that understands reason and sees the world for what it is, just having different viewpoints on how to run it, and someone like SG1man who has, especially since the 2016 election, increasingly preferred running away from an argument and continuing holding on to viewpoints that go against the truth of the world, preferring to substituting it for their own. Sadly however, in the age of the internet, factual truth is dead, and reality is whatever you want it to be. Even a decade ago, you could make a good point for "diversity of opinion" and being open-minded to other's politics. But the right wing has latched onto "you're persecuting against me for my views" and "you're just biased and closeminded" and is completely misusing them to excuse reprehensible and retarded bullshit. So now "what about diversity of opinion" has become a dogwhistle for "why can't I bring my 100 year old political views into the workplace/forum". Especially since they tend to preface it with "sure, they want diversity of religion and race and sex and sexuality, buuuuut".
Nowadays I feel more and more that its simply not worth it to go against the prevailing opinion (which is getting more and more predictable...) in many news threads, even if I disagree with them. If I'd make a quick, concise reply, it'd get absolutely torn to shreds by multiple users because its a low hanging fruit. I try to avoid this, it just doesn't sit well with me. If I make a lengthier, well thought out argument, backed up with sources, statistics etc., it quite often gets completely disregarded. No replies, no ratings, nothing. It's like no one wants to hear it. Reading through the Political Confessions thread and seeing so many people being actually fairly right and conservative, as well as somewhat anti-LGBTQ, actually makes me feel happier that the world and this forum aren't going to PC-tier shit and people still retain their sensibilities, even if the time we're all living in directly forces them to remain buried deep and silent, restrained. Fuck Trump, Fuck Antifa and Fuck anyone who unironically visits Tumblr for their daily political affiliation fellatio. The calls for violence on facepunch absolutely astound me. Nonviolence will always be the way forward, and no matter how disgusting you think someone's viewpoint is - they can change. it takes time, sure, and not everyone could have the guts to try and work with people like that, and sometimes people's views may not change (or not change as much as you'd like them to) but it's happened in the past and can still continue to happen. We can't give up on a peaceful future, it requires EFFORT on our part to do the right thing. I'm pissed off at the state of the world. I grew up in countries that were essentially morally corrupt theocracies that used slave labour. Came to the west hoping that people here, who actually have access to a free education, would be, I don't know... more enlightened? I guess the United States as a country seemed a huge disappointment to me after what I'd hoped it could be. The fact that truth is now a partisan issue, and that an entire half of the country is more or less ready to dismiss any inconvenient fact in favour of a fantasy of questionable provenance is deeply disturbing. I also feel that the growing far right movement needs to be put down with extreme prejudice, but I can't think of a way to do it that isn't repugnant to my own principles. I feel that a true single-payer healthcare system in the United States is impossible. Let me be clear - the hospitals and insurance companies are racketeering. They've inflated the cost of healthcare far, far beyond what is acceptable anywhere else in the world. To implement a single-payer healthcare system would entail regulating the pricing of services. And when healthcare revenue in the United States makes up around 20% of the annual GDP... really, what are the chances of that actually happening? https://metro.co.uk/2018/11/30/grandma-spent-10-hours-in-jail-cell-with-40-men-after-nurse-told-officials-she-was-a-man-8195132/ This is the kind of shit that happens if you unnecessarily hate trans or intersex people. Let that sink in for a bit. The wanna-be hero in me wants to do the right thing and do what I can to try to fix things in this country. But then a single, simple day of working customer service, having to deal with these whiny fucking self-entitled people, also makes me want to say "nah, fuck it. they don't deserve it." I want to do what I feel in my heart is the right thing to do, but my lack of patience with people prevents me. I feel all that Facepunch political discussion these days is a familiar circle of the same faces parroting again and again about Trump, Brexit or a combination of the two.
"I'm secretly looking forward to being a Jayhawker when The Civil War: Part 2 breaks out." so... You intend on being a republican abolitionist?
We all have some big, juicy, controversial opinions and don't feel comfortable flying them about in this climate. So it goes
I feel disconnected from Facepunch in the last couple of years which has led to me rarely visiting this website anymore. Either I have simply outgrown the age demographic of this website or I grew tired of the constant sensitive naivety. I like to think my generation to some extent has moved on from Facepunch, and what is left is a predominantly far left wing community that only pools (and encourages) it's own lot to gather from the content it creates. I pick on what I consider more left wing communities here because I consider them the weakest of the lot. Not weak in any totalitarian manner but one of a mindset. Sensitivity, depression, a series of mental health concerns that shape their personalities and behaviour. I feel a younger generation has moved in and they are on a journey discovering themselves, experiencing the do's and the dont's -- learning how to be; from courtesy, manners to life lessons. I'm not sure if I can be bothered to deal with kids who don't 'get' it. They don't know the burden of a job, what it's like to pay taxes, rent or to be older and worry more about the latest video game controversy. You would be surprised by just how much your politics can shift when - you - have to work and support yourself. You don't feel so generous anymore when it's your coin up for offer. I wish I could show them that, but it's the same shift I think every aspiring generation goes through that wishes to change the world (and then unsurprisingly becomes like the last). I don't want to visit a forum where some whiny cross dressing, hyper sensitive child is having temper tantrums about being called a 'trap' (can you guess the thread?). I think that is a incarnated example for why Facepunch today is not for me. tl;dr -- I think Facepunch is just for exploring children and I have outgrown its community. I mean that in the most non-malicious sense. I believe that "black culture" is the biggest reason there is so many racists in this country. I grew up with many black friends that turned thug just because it's what's expected of them. They mocked me and disowned me as we grew up cause I wasn't one of them. I've seen it everywhere, it's disgusting how this "culture" traps young people into being these tough guys that aren't allowed to be smart or succeed because that's too "white". And it seems that anybody that talks about it is racist cause it's their culture. Fuck that. It's not a culture it's gang mentality and it needs to fucking go away. Hell I've heard tons of rappers sing about it being wrong and pushing it at the same time. I just don't know what there is to do about it. REMOVE KEBAB remove kebab you are worst turk. you are the turk idiot you are the turk smell. return to croatioa. to our croatia cousins you may come our contry. you may live in the zoo….ahahahaha ,bosnia we will never forgeve you. cetnik rascal FUck but fuck asshole turk stink bosnia sqhipere shqipare..turk genocide best day of my life. take a bath of dead turk..ahahahahahBOSNIA WE WILL GET YOU!! do not forget ww2 .albiania we kill the king , albania return to your precious mongolia….hahahahaha idiot turk and bosnian smell so bad..wow i can smell it. I fear deeply that our (the West's) political class is simply unfit for purpose, and rapidly declining in the face of increasing problems, both self inflicted by them, and external, which is resulting in extraordinary tribalism in a way not seen since the last days of Rome. Hand in hand with this and I believe, caused by this, our public debate is drastically damaged. Not just the content of it (dogwhistling, overton window shrinking, hyperbolic 'daisy (1964)' style poltical ads etc) but indeed, and more fundimentally, the actual quality of it. Our political class is failing, and our public is increasingly less equipped to correct that problem. Now the exact cause of this is complicated and multifaceted. You can roughly trace it back to the aforementioned 'Daisy' ad by Johnson in '64, or to the famous 'you're a crypto fascist' debate between Buckley and Vidal, which saved ABC and showed the world that sophistic bloodsports get views, and humdrum and productive good faith debates do not, and to the uncontroversial failure of the US (and other) education systems. Plus a thousand other niggling little compounding factors. But it doesn't matter, the end result is a public unable and increasingly unwilling to healthily and earnestly resolve problems, and hold failing our failing political class to account. Not just at the largest stages of them all, (be it the decrepit Machiavellian plutocrat or the great orange demagogue) but at the equally important small stages, of local elections or even one's personal affairs. Those great corrupt tyrants lounging in our institutions could never have started their quiet climb up that ladder if the people of their riding had prevented their election and rewarded good actors at the local level, restoring a healthy internal political culture when the good actors ultimately significantly outnumbered the bad. (The magic threshold in any system/culture appearing to be approximately 9-1, by the way, which i'm sure nobody will argue is the case today) And that's merely to do with voting. Our political and cultural systems are predicated on the divine nature of the individual. Or the idea that society is best regulated not by a sovreign king, or hypothetically efficient autocratic state, but messily and chaotically by outsourcing the computation of problems and ideas out to every individual person, trusting them to manage their own affairs and their own interests, and trusting in the benign nature of reality for that, on whole, to be fundamentally good. However, this comes with an intractable burden of responsibility for those individuals to shoulder their weight, and take ownership of all that they possibly can. And our meteoric rise of standard of livin and wealth in all kinds (the UN absolute poverty line today is 300% of the average wage of someone in the west circa 1900, in today's dollars. And world absolute poverty has been halved since 2006) has, in simple terms, given us such good times, we've forgotten what really bad times are. Shit may be rough, certainly, but by historical standards we are beyond compare. Frankly, we're fat and lazy, and broadly lacking the tools to truly grapple with our problems, and neglectful of doing so. And the product of this state of affairs has left us with a public and election system that rewards manic machiavellian extroverts, skilled in fundraising, pleasing the crowd and the sight of their own dick. Not philosopher kings or benevolent policy wizards, but short sighted and feckless conspiritors, serving their own interests, and clumsily slinging incompetant policy around, not truly understanding the gravity or detail of what they're doing, and typically not even caring. Between the cancerous growth of surveylance, the coorporate tax vaccum that forces govermnents to rely far disproportionately on the individual in lieu of the trillions of AWOL dollars hidden in tax havens, the un-domestication of economies and the wage stagnation that's a product of the two, and so on. The evidence surrounds us. But none is such a good example of the west's political incompetence as the handling of brexit. Regardless of your opinion on the matter, I don't care. What's done is done, and the debate is now how best to do the deed, to the satisfaction and well being of all parties involved. And i've never seen anything so spectacularly mishandled. When polled, the majority of people asked reported that voting for brexit was a matter of national sovereignty, or that a foreign power could not override and dictate their policy and the UK's future. And the majority of people polled about voting against it was for economic concerns. And yet, the Chequer's/May's plan directly shits in the face of both. Ceeding essentially a universal subserviant dictatorial veto of english policy to the EU, and essentially pre-emptively cowtowing to any trade agreement the EU cares to posit. It directly spites everyone's interests to the benefit of fucking nobody. And it isn't even like the UK is negotiating from a downed position. Of the 30 odd member states in 2016, only 10 have positive contributions, 4 of which are only slightly in the green, the rest being a taxing drain on the union. And of that, the UK is the second greatest, and something like 60% of german car sales are to the UK, with an overall trade deficit of 26 billion euros to the UK. Without the Uk's cooporation, the EU will be stricken and fragile, and without a trade deal, a vast amount of german exports will suffer dearly. The Uk holds the dead man's switch as far as the EU is concerned, and could negotiate from any position it liked, but our establishment is so utterly unfit for purpose they took the most ideal possible position they could want, and instead pre-emptively surrendered to whatever conditions the EU wanted to impose, and also ceding legal submission to the EU's legal body, and welcoming whatever punitive economic measures the EU would seek to impose for the UK daring to leave. The UK sauntered up to the negotation table, slammed their fist on the table, went all in on 3's and 7's and slyly uttered "whatever you want we agree. Whatcha gonna do about it bitch?" and looked around expecting gasps of respect. It's quite possibly the worst political act in all of history, with less than fucking 10% approval, worse than the goddamn poll tax. And instead of our public holding the state to account in this time of failure, the public discussion is roughly "REeeeeeee racism" and "Reeeeeeeee blood and soil", and the media reports self imposed foolhardy doom and destruction. And this is endemic of our society as a whole. This is no anomoly. Our politicians are weak and infirm, unprincipled and unscrupulous. Incapable and unwilling to make the choices that need to be made to solve our fundimental problems, or are even incentivized or are indeed a part of those problems as such (such as the US's lobbying clusterfuck). We're being led by miserly headless chickens in a dangerous world that demands expert choices and nuance. And that cannot go on for long. And finally, what i truly fear is what happens if this new weimar republic fails, what will rise to replace us? The autocratic tyranny of china? Whatever the fuck russia is? Or the islamic world, led by the quaranic literalist Saudis, a culture willfully modeled on the barbarism of 600's arabian deserts , well disguised under modern luxury. I fear the day we find out, more than anything else. It's our job and our most fundamental duty as a public to fix this, and we're failing. I weep for the west. The current gender studies paradiam is fucked up because politics won't allow it to correct itself. John money had two 5 y.o. boys rape each other to say that you can socially make someone of a gender but all it did was fuck up a pair of kids, call them trans and wave it around as some social success and that this was a cure. Except it wasn't...one hung himself and the other blew his fucking brains after trying to suppress what Mr.money put him and his brother through in the name of "science". It's just a concidence that this is what ends up happening 50% of trans people whether or not they go through re-assignment surgery. And no one is allowed to question this less being accused of having less then honorable intentions. Maybe the problem is the current way we are treating this is heavily flawed. But no let's keep doing this even though these people are just going to blow their brains out when they get "cured" anyway. Sometimes I feel gun-grabers and Nanny staters have an almost sexual need to force people to live in bubble wrap. Like the way the talk about how people being held down by the government.
I misread that as Jaywalker and thought he was just looking forward to a world without pedestrian traffic laws.
