So most of theses would be T-72s/T-90s, and BMPs right? Good thing T-14s arent massed produced yet, theyre fucking scary.
Ukraine is not a part of EU. Its not our war.
All we can (and should do), is to send aid and take refugees from the war zone.
I'm mostly worried for the famelies fleeing from Ukraine, not being welcomed in EU after the refugee-crises.
I'm not sure what the future are for the counties that are outside EU and NATO. But I'm sure that Putin will think twice before crossing the NATO border.
On that note. Sweden, get your ass in NATO already.
Now now, let's not go this way. Ukraine being taken by Russia would be a serious threat to the EU's and Germany's security. Because Germany benefits from the Gazprom it doesn't mean Germany will sacrifice national sovereignity of other partners for it's sake. Now, Germany mediates because it doesn't want any conflict between those two states, and most importantly a war that would bring EU and NATO into it.
This is really some weird myth about Germany that I heard repeated many, many times. "Oh they're gonna sell Poland to Russia to save their asses" "oh they don't care about Eastern Europe at all, they will do nothing! And also France will help them in doing nothing!"
If you think Germany won't care, then I guess you don't think UK or US cares either. Because why would they? Why would US care about it, especially since they have Trump?
Can we stop this "Germany bad" thing, please?
Probably not gonna happen unless the impeachment comes before the invasion. Although I did hear that a shipment of Leopard 2s intended for Saudi Arabia is looking for a new home...
Man it sure would be a tragedy if they just so happened to get lost in west Ukraine.
Oh, I wasn't suggesting you were being racist! Don't worry.
EU can absolutely pretend it's not its war today and suffer tomorrow. Worked great for Europe 80 years ago. Absolutely nothing comparable between now and then about the situation of a big country attacking a small one right at your doorstep. The land borders magically divide political spheres of influence etc.
And where was USA doing WW2 for the first two years? Sunbathing?
We could also talk about the "blind eye" US get when it suits them:
China
Afghanistan (Taliban)
Pakistan (Musharraf)
And don't get me start on Nigeria.
No country in their right mind, would play "world police". That is why military alliances exist.
4.45 seconds on google will give a list of all NATO-countries, Ukraine is NOT a part of NATO.
In 2008 they had the chance of joining NATO, when it met the criteria for accession, but declined the invite.
"Hey, don't you want a safe apartment? You have to pay and have a stable constitution ofc."
"No thanks, I'll rather want to live in a cardboard-box next to crazy Ivan."
EU is also not a country, but a union. It would be the same as if your president tried to force Canada to join a war.
We got different belies.
It would be suicide for Russia to attack a NATO country. Russia aren't that dumb.
I suspect the only reason they're attacking Ukraine, is because they're getting close at joining NATO.
They reapplied August 2014 after the Crimea-stunt and are "rushing" to become a member https://www.apnews.com/dff40992fcc446f6808d02d03b35e4bc .
It's not the same because NATO didn't exist 80 years ago.
"but dude, is Russia really the aggressor? Russia is surrounded by NATO bases! And American missiles! If they're so dangerous, why do we constantly patrol near their shores?"
Two months later
"but dude, Ukraine was clearly a threat. Invading it was a sensible preemptive strike against an invasion of Russia, backed by NATO. Dude you're just biased"
