Michigan GOP neuters minimum wage and sick leave laws they passed two months ago

political identity isn't a protected group under the Genocide Convention, no. It's not considered an immutable trait. There's often overlap with ethnic and/or national groups, though. What I'm talking about is civility in discourse. I'm not worried about a genocide or crimes against humanity occurring in the United States.
But if I were a registered republican who saw a message like that, I certainly would think that the left is out to get me. And I think it would be pretty reasonable to have that subjective view. Such a view might encourage me to ramp up the hostility in my political discourse and push me to more extreme ends. Maybe even to the point where I'd be willing to support actions like those in question here.
At the end of the day I don't think it's unreasonable to tell someone not to dehumanize people and call for their murder. That's not a great idea, especially when our democracy is in such a fragile position.
I'm pretty damn sure he's just using genocide as a buzzword here. It applies exclusively to national, religious, ethnic or racial group. A handful of corrupt politicians don't qualify as any of those.
I'm using it as an example to demonstrate that people are using the same language as literal war criminals, and suggesting that they change their tone. If that's using it as a buzzword then I'll concede on that.
Lemme get this straight. You're admitting it isn't really genocide, but you used the word anyway. Hyperbole doesn't help your argument in the slightest.
Listen when a major narrative in politics (irrespective of whether it is valid) is that a "white genocide" is occurring in the country, I would recommend that people don't utilize language that actually adds credibility to that view.
I'll agree they should shift their tone 100%
however, the tone from many republicans for close to 10 years has been very much "the left are literally the enemies of the country" and that has only ramped up to 12 under Trump. Obama incensed american right wingers, and created a cozy fiction for them to live in.
The left is now under siege in a variety of ways, and as such, they're(Unjustifiably) getting vocally violent after all this time of living under constant threat. Imo.
Please. You accuse the guy of using loaded language and you jumped straight to freaking genocide? Remember what I said about credibility?
Anyway, this is starting to get way off the rails.
I don't equate calling for someone's murder to telling that person that their language is the kind that war criminals use.
Let's call it what it is, mass assassination, not genocide. A bloody purge of a political party that is far too comfortable embracing fascism and disregarding the will of the people when the will of the people disagrees with the will of sitting politicians.
And I think that we can all agree that this is a highly undesirable thing nobody is wishing for, but the Republicans could certainly make necessary if they continue on this path of disregarding the fundamentals of how the nation and every one of its components is supposed to work.
Let's just call it a "revolution", or "revolt", or "uprising" while everyone has their thesaurus' out.
Time for a violent brouhaha
GOP monsters would have me killed if they could get away with it, I don't give a shit what happens to them.
