Prosecutors say ex-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen deserves substantial prison time,

... What?
What even is his reasoning?
Bar oaths count, as I imagine they generally include verbiage that means "I will respect the law and the courts while I honourably practice my legal profession" and going and committing crimes is definitely going to be a failure to uphold their oath(s).
When the facts disagree with you, apply maximum bullshittery until the facts change to accomodate you.
They're arresting Cohen instead of him...
...therefore he's innocent...?
ya the bar oath is in no uncertain terms a pledge to uphold the law, but its far from a hippocratic oath given how corporate lawyers uphold the law every day by fucking over people who can't defend themselves.
I mean, how would that even work? Anytime anyone lost their case they'd try and sue their lawyer for malpractice, even if the suit was lost because the entire case was "I stole my neighbour's lawnmower and the whole thing was captured on video".
They have to vow to practice the law and represent their client's needs, even if their client needs to escape being held responsible for those three murders the other year.
It's to control his support base. When the hammer finally drops on trump, they're going to believe it came out of nowhere and it's all a setup.

God this will never get old
Not how it works. Michael Cohen performed serious crimes and will be commensurately judged. Cooperation is not equivalent to exoneration. In exchange his sentence will be lenient, all relative to what it might have been, but outside of that it becomes the proverbial slippery slope. Trading one crime for another isn't justice.
It's two things, SDNY recommends Cohen get 4-5 years and Mueller recommends Cohen not get extra charges from him due to cooperation.
