grenadiac didnt become popular because of his zingers, he's the most popular because he's a good poster and argues coherently enough, and I spent two years arguing in good faith with republican and alt-right posters before I eventually lost my patience with the outliers. Boilrig and karimatrix are both trolls or hopelessly deluded, seano is well, seano, and a good sight better than he used to be long ago, so I don't mind him being given a shot, and the less said about Tudd the merrier. Also mind you, much of our current moderator team are as green as any of the users, except for the ones still around, so they need time to grow into their responsibilities too.
Current chance to end up in council. Grenadiac: 90.54% seano12: 71.94% Zonesylvania: 61.24% karimatrix: 46.57% zukriuchen: 45.08% Raidyr: 44.50% Borealis: 41.37% Dan The Man: 35.63% Boilrig: 33.79% HumanAbyss: 15.61% elix: 13.24% https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113148/9921f55f-d36a-46e0-86d9-ff8897996539/image.png The last few simulated draws out of 100,000 draws.
Radical idea, trust me I know, but how about we ditch the whole lottery thing and just go with the top 5 votes? Don't give me the give everyone a chance reason either because that's still pretty dumb.
Council's been called: @Grenadiac @Zonesylvania @Borealis @HumanAbyss @Raidyr
I promise to do my best with the responsibility I got, and thanks to everybody who supported me.
I'll do my best to provide cogent, intelligent, and understanding guidance. Honestly at the end I was like "I slightly don't want to win, whatever" but pretty cool.
Lol way too many people voted for someone that already had many votes, this is why I voted Zuk, so they were actually spread out to people that matter It's not like we were electing one person where it matters to stack
I voted for Raidyr I've always liked his input on things.
You know Hezzy I sort of understand the logic behind why you want this council, but this idea of flat-management where you just throw it to us to sort out is a pretty weak one. It'd be better to not do this whole affair than leave it to a bunch of disorganized, disconnected, arseholes. I am including myself in the bracket of "arsehole" for what it's worth. I do not consider myself in a position of authority or respectability to contribute to Polidicks, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment. I'm a user of the website, not a mod.
Hopefully the way it plays out is that we have 5 dedicated individuals who work with me on making this forum better. One of the reasons I want the council is because I don't read or post in this section so it makes sense to bring people in that do on a daily basis. I mentioned on the stream that we've now got three dedicated moderators for Polidicks; @Unclejimmema , @SIRIUS and @FlakTheMighty . These guys will be working with the council too. Even if the council turns out to have been a crap idea, we're going to be improving the quality of the subforum with more moderation.
Honestly we may as well see how this goes. There will be contingencies in place in case things arent effective enough, and for now we have at least a few mods who volunteered to shepherd how the section works. This is no different than if one were selected as a moderator in the sense that you still have to show that you can be proved responsible with what you were given. And like it is with mods, someone who cant do the needful will either shape up or ship out.
I just proved I'm not afraid to ban.
@Raidyr can you be a dear and join Discord so you can weigh in on stuff
Honestly, if you want this, and you want it to work, you've gotta be firmer than you're currently being and set some actual rules for how we elect people to this. At the moment I've no faith in the process because, frankly, a lot of your answers have been "come up with a better way" or "sort it out yourselves", which is not what I've come to expect of either you or the Facepunch mod team in ten years of using this place.
Glad Human Abyss and Grenadiac got in. If I could have voted for three people I'll have picked those guys too.
My input for the voting process here would have been after my input for the forums, which was met with a month long ban for "mod sass". Forgive me for "not being arsed" to provide my input to the void. However, I had been very vocal in the multiple Forum Discussion threads that we have had in GD about all things related to the forums. When this council idea was announced, it was a good idea in theory, but as it developed I fell out of favor with it. I would have loved to be a part of it as well if it had headed in the right direction. I read quite literally, almost every post and thread in Polidicks for the last couple of years, as well as a fair amount in SH. But moderation would quite frankly be served much better by actual moderators, not a hamstrung council. I wish there was more that I could do to contribute to keeping Polidicks an interesting place to bring debate and conversation, but there is really nothing more I can do that what I have done.
I don't understand. Was my nomination revoked or am I still in?
They were basically tickets in a lottery. The more votes, the higher the chance. Still just a chance though.
ur still nominated in my heart tho seano, even if u dont win maybe better things are just around the corner
Okay, I admit I kind of lost track of the purpose of the User Council. What is it exactly that they're going to do?
Decide on rules and stuff basically
wouldn't it be more beneficial to instead of turning it into a representative democracy, polidicks as a userbase decide on the rules?
Then absolutely nothing of substance would get done whatsoever. If you have any actual suggestions to make, feel free to forward them on and they'll be discussed.
populist bullshit is what facepunch is all about though, right? I feel that this council and large influx of mods is just going to play into the old times where the forums were micromanaged and people getting banned for menial shit.
If you read the new polidicks rules, people arent going to be banned for menial shit. People who want to discuss the news can discuss the news however with some adherence to standards, but if you want to post in discussion threads, you'd better be prepared to debate properly in them because they'll be held to even higher standards than news articles.
i dont see how that differs from whats happening now. People could propose rules, people could vote with agree/disagree, if a threshold is met then its enacted. Alternatively, this council or whatever can put things up to vote for
I want a recount. I demand a recount. The russians obviously interfered in this election.
Legit, as a user. Please remove the fucking ratings from Polidicks.
no
this was a very contextual joke guys, i don't really check usernames when i'm deciding whether i'm going to ban someone or not. this was taken out of context
