I went over to the Fox News fb page because I was curious to see how they’d frame it, and the reaction. Somewhat amusing that they framed it as a ‘retirement’ as opposed to a resignation, and many of the comments were of the unironically ‘thank you for your service’ kind.
Mattis was retired before he even became Secretary of Defense. Don't believe their obvious lies.
Wouldn't be surprising if the Trump admin is adopting self-defeating policies abroad (withdraw from Syria for one), giving the likes of Mattis aneurysms - making them go 'fuck this shit'.

I don't know if you're refering to Mattis here, but I think the only reason he stayed was to keep the US out of trouble. He left when he realised he had no influence over Trump.
I mean, when Trump has basically alluded to the US Military as his own mercenary force, I'd stay and try to stop his ass as well.

It was a matter of time and it sucks but a clear message needed to be sent not just to the Trump administration but to the whole US forces, that the Trump admin does not care for the interests of the country, only their own.
Fortunately he only leaves when the Democrats take the House so Trump still can't go freely warmongering around, probably intended it to be this way.
Well if Trump doesn't start another war then all those US troops coming back from the Middle East can look forward to being redeployed across the Mexican border.
