https://www.pressherald.com/2018/12/24/poliquin-drops-legal-challenge-to-ranked-choice-voting/ With the decision he announced on Christmas Eve, incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin finally conceded the Nov. 6 election to Democrat Jared Golden.
Somebody give that man his u tried star
Good. I knew much wouldn't come out of Poliquin's attempts but it's nice to know that Golden's seat is set in stone and hopefully those who voted for Poliquin now realize how much of a big baby he is. I don't want my district getting someone like him elected ever again.
It was never meant to be much more than grandstanding for his base in CD2, giving them a reason to think the election was stolen from them. I know a couple old salts up in CD2 who think democracy died the day RCV was implemented. In reality, independent voters just favored Golden by an 8-to-1 margin, and they wanted to take a chance on third-party candidates without spoiling the race. Also, it’s disingenuous as hell for Poliquin to say that he would have won if the race had taken place “in any other state in the union.” Voters went to the polls 100% aware of the rules. They voted third-party in the first round when they might otherwise not have. If anything, Golden would’ve likely taken MORE votes if it had been a two-way race.
