No man invents himself, and evil acts and nations seem to be the result of almost feedback loop like events and actions in and of themselves.

I imagine the monsters of the inquisition, maos Great Leap Forward(which auto capitalized on my phone?), the Japanese imperial regime and the nazis and any other monster we can remember from our history are all created by the times they live in. The individuals who were there, and didn’t just exist because they were “evil” but had very human reasoning for their actions at the time. That’s what makes it hard for me to think anything specific makes it easy for humans to commit vile acts, because it really is “whatever key seems to fit the lock” to me, that lets these kinds of things happen to people made of the same material and general experiences many humans shared but resulted in different outcomes.
