Well, he DOES believe that he has accomplished more than any other President. And he DOES believe that he is the most beloved person in existence. Treating this as a joke wouldn't be that off for him, sad to say.
Dems absolutely need to hold the line on this. Let him dig an increasingly deep hole for himself over his ridiculous wall. Keep offering reasonable budgets that even the GOP can't disagree with and just watch Trump squirm.

I'm not sure he does, honestly. Trump and a lot of others seem to treat business deals and politics as a zero-sum game and don't seem to consider compromise as a "win." Additionally, this old mentality that America can go it alone and everyone else "needs us" has persisted long past its expiration date; in the modern world, cooperation and compromise is how you succeed, and a lot of people don't seem to understand that (or at least, pretend to be ignorant about it).
I agree that he's not one to compromise, but that's straight out of The Art of the Deal anyway. He overshoots targets to make people work on his terms, even if it's a lot harder as President than what he's used to. The one skill he has acquired over the decades is how to manipulate people, his entire campaign and presidency has been based on creating and controlling narratives. It's why he's done so much to create distrust in his critics and make the dumb term "fake news" a mainstream thing that people say, even beyond his support-base.
Basically he sees image as everything and he has no humility, so he'll never admit to failure. He just loudly and confidently says what comes to his mind. Lies or not, it gets talked about and people will believe it, so any chance to make the Dems look bad and act like the bigger man is one he'll take.
The Dems already tried to make a deal by giving you all $25 billion for your stupid fucking border wall a year ago, after you explicitly stated you would sign anything the Senate handed to you and encouraged Dems to trade wall funding for Dreamers getting a deal (because you ripped apart their entire structure before a court said you weren't allowed to do that months later), and what did you do? You refused to sign it because you're a stupid fucking baby throwing your toys out of your pram, Donnie.

God he's insufferable. Congress isn't even in a real session until thursday. As for making a deal, no the democrats will not negotiate with a gun to their head, open the government up then sit down and spend a month figuring out what to do.
