• McConnell says the Senate will not consider any Democratic shutdown ending bills

Yeah this behavior isn't new. Under Obama's presidency during the debt ceiling negotiations John Boehner once boasted getting "98% of what he wanted" in the final deal. The Republican party is simply incapable of compromise.
So, it's either all or nothing? Hoping the Dems cave in to your demands? Might as well be a bank robber keeping the workers hostage. The world will rejoice when this fossil kicks the bucket.
McConnel's been the villain of American politics since 2008. It should be a fucking public holiday when he croaks. He's just plainly and pointlessly playing with peoples' lives now, ensuring that government workers suffer for no actual reason now besides pettiness. All he knows is destruction and obstruction, to the point that he is doing it to his own party which will be demolished by a prolonged shutdown. If the GOP have any sense left (I know they don't but it's wishful thinking) then they'd launch a coup and replace his leadership with someone who is willing to actually lead.
ya everytime he says "I won't bring a bill up to the floor" it usually means it has the votes to pass, like the criminal justice reform bill that made our prisons slightly less draconian. he droned on and on for like 10 months about how it wouldn't pass and Trump wouldn't sign it, then magically it had broad bipartisan support and Trump signed it.
McConnell is ultra-fastidious about only allowing bills that have the likely votes to pass, except for when he oversaw the Senate try and cram four shitty attempts at repealing the ACA in the same week, all of them miserable failures even when Republicans were abusing procedure to require only 51 votes and no filibuster. The existence of time travel is disproven by the fact that if it existed someone would've gone back in time and strangled Newt Gingrich and Mitch McConnell in their 20s to save the future of American democracy.
given how many times universal healthcare has failed its also possible that time travelers do exist and they're extreme libertarians.
That can be explained by contemporary greed, but on the other hand what if Ayn Rand was a time traveller who got involuntarily stuck in our time? But in all seriousness good fucking god, impeach McConnell with a 2x4. There needs to be term limits for Senators, or an age limit, because the old white men of the upper chamber have cockblocked progress for decades now.
McConnell is there because he is willing to go to any length to hang onto power for Republicans. I doubt his Republican successor would be much better. Honestly? Abolish the Senate. It's an archaic institution with wildly disproportionate representation by design. It's nothing more than a remnant of the days when the US was more of a loose federation, than a more centralized republic as today.
removing sections of the government isn't going to work to do anything positive for yourself long term
Propping up undemocratic institutions certainly isn't going to help. I would be much happier with a system that is proportional and actually represents the will of the people. The Senate is explicitly not that type of system.
The founders of the United States feared mob rule more the partisan rule, if only they knew.
It's unfortunate because with we essentially have had with Republican control is mob rule but the mob is actually in the minority or very slim majority, but managed to over-represent themselves with political shenanigans (House gerrymandering) and the baked-in rural/small state advantage (Senate).
