Bay Area Representative Jackie Speier and North Coast Congressman Jared Huffman hand-delivered a bin that read “Trump Trash” to the White House Tuesday afternoon. The garbage was collected by the two representatives and other volunteers over the weekend at Ocean Beach and Land’s End in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco. “As the condition of national parks worsened these community members sprang to action and dedicated their personal time to pick up after their own president,” said Huffman in a Facebook post. They say the filth has been piling up at Bay Area parks and has become a serious problem. “We’re here to say, ‘Mr. Trump here’s your trash,'” said Speier. “We don’t need a nationally televised address from the White House to solve this problem tonight,” said Huffman. “What we need is for President Trump to wake up to smell the coffee cups, the diapers, and the burrito wrappers and the trash that is piling up.”
I think the real question is: When are we going to actually charge people for littering, and severely at that? Seriously. I have never seen anyone get charged for littering in my entire life.
maybe we can try doing that as soon as we start paying the people who would be doing that
Pretty sure US Park Police / Park Rangers are essential personnel, since they are law enforcement. But these parks are very very large and the odds of catching someone in the act are very slim.
I wonder if this is what is actually making him try to withhold FEMA funding for the wildfires. It's like he is actively trying to piss everyone off because all he sees is "democrat"
California is a liberal stronghold and, in the new age of Trumpian Republicanism, nearly impossible for the GOP to crack at all. It's a bulwark of blue-state federal power, and The Donald does not tolerate anyone getting in the way of him having what he wants. He's been trying to angle policies to deliberately punish California since he got into office. Even the big stupid tax cut contained measures to cut the overall tax but also cut in half claimable tax credits available to homeowners -- which punishes expensive blue states like California and New York while poorer red states are less affected and objectively treated better under the law. He's a vindictive shit and he'd cut off all federal funding to California and zero out its federal representation in Congress if he could.
My mother actually got fined for littering here in New York. Though it was a tissue that she accidentally dropped and immediately picked back up. Plus the whole thing about police here in New York having a quota on offenses. Though all this and that are sort of off topic.
What we need is a culture of not taking public spaces for granted and thus treating them like a dump. It’s the same reason our public toilets are a dump
Someone get it set up so national park trash is gathered, shipped, and dumped on the white house lawn
Would probably help a ton if disposable crap wasn't the norm and reusable equivalents were used instead.
“We don’t need a nationally televised address from the White House to solve this problem tonight,” said Huffman. “What we need is for President Trump to wake up to smell the coffee cups, the diapers, and the burrito wrappers and the trash that is piling up.” I'm not sure he could tell the difference, that sounds like his usual trash.
