Mulvaney wants the list no later than Friday, these people said, and it’s the firmest evidence to date that the White House is preparing for a lengthy funding lapse that could have snowballing impacts on the economy and government services. The request is the first known inquiry from a top White House official seeking information about the spreading impact of the shutdown, which has entered its fifth week and is the longest in U.S. history. So far, top White House officials have been particularly focused on lengthening wait times at airport security, but not the sprawling interruption of programs elsewhere in the government.
FUCKING MARCH? WE'RE NOT EVEN IN FUCKING FEBRUARY YET.
Imagine shutting a country down over one person's shitty idea...
This is state terrorism
Why not just re-open the government?
Turtle man said no
Well, I imagine if the shutdown continues until March, it would be a list of programs not affected would be easier to compile.
If the shutdown lasts until the end of March it will be 99 days.
I wonder what Putin is getting up to while Trump is jumping up and down with his fingers in his ears.
The government will not reopen due to Trump. It will either be McConnell capitulating, or Trump being removed from office/resigning. I also think there's a chance (though not probably) McConnell announces he will retire at the end of his term over this. This is Trump's hill to die on, and McConnell has chosen Trump as HIS hill to die on
Considering an annexation of Belarus apparently, so he's been a busy boy.
If it goes on that long my local county will start working without pay. My job specifically.
yeah if this lasts until march or april expect just about every commercial flight to be cancelled
Riots when??
I gave you a diamond to help pay rent
If the shutdown goes into March, I dread to see what'll happen.
-The United States will go into recession -US credit rating will nosedive -No air travel due to ATC strikes, possibly no rail travel either -Federal courts and the FBI will be closed -No Coast Guard -Government research projects will be ruined -30 million people will have no food stamps -No food or drug inspections -The stock market will be frozen because of the SEC being furloughed -Crippled IRS -No farm subsidies so small farms will be ruined -National parks will be irreparably ruined
There is nothing that I want to say right now that is legal to say.
"We’re going to win so much, you’re going to be so sick and tired of winning! You’re going to come to me and go ‘Please, please, we can’t win anymore.’ -You’ve heard this one- You’ll say ‘Please, Mr. President, we beg you sir, we don’t want to win anymore. It’s too much. It’s not fair to everybody else! And I’m going to say ‘I’m sorry, but we’re going to keep winning, winning, winning, We’re going to make America Great Again.”
What a shithole lmao
Quite the flaming shit burger this is going to be.
The government shutdown, nobody to stop you /s
I know I've said this before but I think the sheer audacity deserves repeating; the shutdown is caused by the fact that Republicans in Congress (a co-equal branch with the Presidency) refuse to send to the White House any legislation that the President won't sign because it doesn't have taxpayer-appropriated funds for a wall that he promised dozens of times would be paid for by Mexico.
If it reaches that point with all those things coming true, and still the government does not move, recession is probably the best case scenario.
I will admit that part of me wishes i could view something as disasterous as this happening to the U S of A just because im morbidly curious, but goddam i hope i never do.
Pretty short list: Trump's rubles.
Give it another few weeks can you can take that /s off tbh. The fact that he's kept the government shut down this long in spite of being offered exactly what he wanted TWICE now is rather telling that he doesn't have the interests of the country at heart and is just running it like he owns the place. Also rather telling that the people who spent the entire Obama admin threatening violence and revolution for his smallest missteps are all super quiet right now 🤔
Trump supporters are already used to making the claim that Mexico would pay by way of tarrifs. If this is to stop they will need to be convinced that he's bullshitting.
Let's see... The courts will shut down operations, meaning the US is incapable of administering justice in even an untimely fashion. Both civil and criminal. Food stamps will stop and hundreds of thousands if not millions of families will be looking for any way to feed themselves and their children. Anyone who relies on federal housing assistance will be completely fucked, so watch for a rise in evictions and homelessness on top of the food stamps problem. Merger approvals, IPO approvals, and a billion other FEC tasks that keep the economy chugging along and have already been halted for weeks will start to have macroscopic effects on the stock market, provoking the recession. The IRS may fail to send out tax returns, which many Americans rely on getting. This also, by the way, ruins the one remaining Hail Mary Republicans had hiding in their pocket to try and sell the public on the tax cut, that they would see their income tax returns grow this Spring. Well guess what they might not get them at all this Spring. The TSA will collapse as most of its workforce is forced to abandon their jobs in favour of any job that actually pays them on time (you know, as required by law), and the FAA is close behind it. Air travel will stop, stranding international passengers in the US and American citizens in foreign countries, and air freight will also be frozen which is going to make the economic effects of the shutdown even worse. Deportation hearings for immigrants already in federal custody (i.e. have committed a crime in the US) will halt when the federal courts can't keep criminal proceedings up, so now illegals who should be deported won't be. Great border security. National parks will continue to fall apart from both a lack of active stewardship and an active destructive force known as unsupervised Americans doing things like cutting down Joshua trees and destroying 200+ years of growth in ten seconds. Animal populations will go untended, setting back conservation and management efforts for potentially years and decades, not just one season. The Secret Service continues to be unpaid, so their morale for protecting the President might suffer and reach a breaking point when the nation needs them the most, especially if Trump is so fucking hellbent on provoking as much unrest as he can without declaring martial law. Federal prison staff are, at least in some facilities, going unpaid, and the last place you want attrition and overworked distracted burnouts on-staff is managing cellblocks full of dangerous convicts. The FBI is struggling to fulfill its duties without any funding to perform them, including cyber operations. Border staff are struggling to manage the borders while facing the financial hardships of not being paid for weeks and possibly months. Cross-border trade is going to stumble and stop as the borders become incapable of efficiently processing incoming and outgoing traffic and people/shipping are forced to turn around. Eventually the US government will be forced to pass a Continuing Resolution or default on its debts, an unprecedented situation that would be a damning indictment of the Trump presidency. This is what I can remember offhand. Trump is making the country less secure and harming millions of American citizens, including hundreds of thousands of dedicated and hardworking civil servants. A recession was already building up pressure but this is going to turbocharge the economic backpedal. I hope Trump voters who're affected by this finally realize that owning the libs doesn't count as nutrition and you can't pay your rent with memes. McConnell could end this all today, never forget this. The turtle's complacent inaction makes him an accessory to this deliberate abuse of the American people.
Yeah, but... build the wall crime will fall
