Bernie Sanders set to announce 2020 presidential run

Christ I hope for the DNCs sake that they don't snub the guy that people clearly want. I really do think that I may be pancakeless if history repeats itself.
Pretty much neoliberalism in a nutshell: It wasn't the concerted action of all Democrats in Congress, it wasn't public outcry against an unresolved shutdown of essential government services, it wasn't pressure from representatives of the agencies affected by the shutdown, it wasn't the diligent work of the media in documenting the Trump admin's inability to rectify the situation rationally: Nah, it was the old white politician lady who singlehandedly saved America. Vote [insert whichever establishment candidate is the most favored by corporate interests here] for 2020.
BDA is sounding a lot like the folks that blamed the civil rights leaders of the 60's for pushing soviet narratives
I don't think you're smart enough to realize that the world is changing. You can never go back to how it was before 2016, because Trump and Bernie aren't flukes produced by Russian intervention. The crisis we are living in now has been underway and bubbling for decades and no amount of blaming Russia (a country which can barely administer itself) is going to change that.
You refer to this time as a "Sickening historical footnote". You don't realize that your ramblings are the actual footnote. Earlier in the thread you were poring over the minute details of how a few votes here and there would have changed the election. You're missing the fact that it doesn't matter in the slightest. You are living through a huge realignment and the first thing to go will be the retarded theory that Bernie Sanders ruined America. It's people like you who are helping to usher in this ruin by coming up with hundreds of bullshit conspiracy theories and interpretations about the political system that miss the fucking point as to why it is failing in the first place.
A Speaker's job is to keep their party unified. Pelosi is good at that.
I mean I think it's all that but I think pelosi deserves a little bit of credit for exercising some spine.
At the end of the day, I am going to support the candidates that I think can actually accomplish the things that need to be done, who are strong on the issues most critical to me, and who have stood forth in effective opposition of the Trump regime.
Many of the most important issues for me, Bernie is all but silent on. Those that issues that he does support are also supported by other candidates. Those other candidates are also more respected by and better able to leverage support and cooperation with the Democratic Party as an institution, meaning they'll be better at making those policies reality. Those candidates have also proven themselves a stronger and more united front against the Trump regime than Bernie has. There are just stronger players in the field than Bernie, as I see it, and so I wish he wouldn't run because I worry that he'll end up (once again) poisoning the well with a cult base of die hard supporters who spend more time attacking our own party than focusing on the bigger threats here.
Hopefully I'll be proven wrong on that, but that I can't hold a negative opinion on Bernie Sanders without being dogpiled as a corporate status quo neoliberal shill who's just too stupid to understand why Bernie is the best and brightest hope we've ever had doesn't do much to dissuade me of that worry.
What the hell could you possibly want that Bernie is silent on? He's been vocal about supporting just about every progressive policy that I have seen mentioned here.
And a "stronger, united front against Trump"? What lmao?
You are so lost on what you want, and how you want to get it that it is laughable. If you think Bernie somehow poisons the well for your ideal candidate, then you don't stand for anything the progressive left stands for, and if you still claim to, then your intentions on how to reach those goals are directly counter to the those of the progressive left.
To be quite fair, if this is really the stance you are taking, then you are the one who poisons the well on progressive movements. The fact you prefer Biden above all other candidates speaks volumes on your stances.
You're one of those animal liberation activists aren't you
This is literally what all the Sanders supporters are doing - supporting the candidate they think can accomplish things.
Yet they're not going out of their way to attack the other candidates in such a manner that you have throughout this thread with a clear bias and hostility to paint them almost as much a Russian asset as Trump is.
It's one thing to say, "Sanders isn't the best, but this other candidate is because of XYZ" and just going the route of "Sanders is shit and a cheater, end of story."
You may say you will support any Democrat candidate that wins the primaries, but I won't hold my breath on that promise entirely if it's Sanders that wins.
Ok so who called you a neoliberal shill that you have to go on like this? You're the one who went out of your way to attack Bernie to paint him as some russian plant, seeing Tintins around every corner is just paranoia, not a sign of being woke or what have you. So riddle me this, if Bernie wins the dem primaries, will you support his candidacy? or go on about that being russian meddling too?
When did you become a Democratic tribalist? The Democratic party is not immune to criticism. You want to know why they get attacked? Because they suck. They're too centrist, too status quo, and too beholden to big moneyed interests. They don't properly represent their voters. I'm hard on the Democrats because I want them to be better. Why are you operating from the assumption that we, the electorate, have to play nice with the Democratic party to get policies implemented? That is fundamentally not how it works. They work for us. They do what we tell them to do. You are reading right from Democratic playbook. "You can't criticize us or you're helping Trump win." That strategy is partly why Trump fucking won. Gaslighting your fucking voters is not a winning strategy. How do you not see this?
Of course there are other candidates "more respected" by the Democratic party, but what the fuck is that worth? They're more respected because they're centrist candidates who aren't going to rock the boat and threaten power. We can change the Democratic institutions, you know. It's in our hands as voters. You seem to content to just throw up your hands and say "this is the best we have, so we have to run candidates in this narrow framework who can 'get things done' even if those things are milquetoast half-measures." Am I seriously supposed to have full confidence in candidates like Harris, Beto, and Gillibrand who only hopped on Bernie's platform after it became incredibly obvious how popular it was? I give much more credit to someone like Bernie who has been consistently fighting for these policies even when it was politically unpopular to do so. If you have ideological disagreements with Bernie, that's fine. But don't pretend Joe Biden is just as good, and is going to fight just as hard for the same things, because that's bullshit and you know it. It's unbelievable hypocrisy that you accuse Bernie of "poisoning the well" when you're gaslighting the people that are on your fucking side.
like chappelle said, russia didn't make america racist
Give us a recap, what are the issues he's silent on?
Uhm clearly he doesn't know if Bernie hasn't spoken of it!!!
So, how democratic party will screw him up now?
Why is it that when other people support the candidates they think can actually accomplish the things that need to be done, who are strong on the issues most critical to them, and who have stood forth in effective opposition of the Trump regime; they are divisive, but when you do it, it's unitary?
Man, what the hell happened to you? You used to be a smart and insightful poster but now you've gone full-blown tribalistic over this and laying blame at the feet of the least relevant people to lay blame with. You're acting exactly like the GOP/Trump supporters you've spent the last couple years fighting against and it's sad to see you just dig your heels in further and further in the face of well-reasoned arguments on why your points are wrong.
Stop. Don't fucking use "waaaah I have a different opinion and people are being mean ". No one has a problem if you don't like Bernie Sanders, and I know that because I know Facepunch-ers that aren't the biggest supporters of him. You're not being 'dogpiled' because of a different opinion, you're being 'dogpiled' because that opinion is using bullshit facts to prop itself up. Don't like Bernie Sanders because of his stance on certain issues? Fair enough, ignore anyone that tries to push you into the Sanders clique; that's your prerogative. But your burning hatred of Sanders is fuelled by a strange hybrid of a conspiracy theory and sheer ignorance to facts, and that's what people have a problem with. It's juvenile of you to insult and patronise people because they've successfully dismantled your shoddy argument, only to then turn around and have a sulk and le sigh.
You can believe that Bernie poisons the well, but your right to believe that is accompanied by a passive acceptance that you can be rebutted.
lol dude you called me a conspiracy theorist and implied i'm a secret trump supporter when i was mildly critical of you
Fun fact, Burlington was a sister-city where this was recorded, and Bernie was married the day before. Rather than missing this opportunity for Cold War diplomacy, he made this required trip his honeymoon with Jane.
This also makes this video really fucking cool.
It was also around 1988; a year before the Soviet Union began its transition AKA a key diplomatic time to be involved.
Those other candidates also take a shit ton of corporate money and bend the knee to whoever pays them the most so, I trust them as far as I can throw them.
