can they though? I don't think the senate can reorganize until the congress is adjourned 2 years later
They're elected at the beginning of each Congress by secret ballot, yes, but I would imagine in the event of an absence/death/impeachment/demands-for-resignation that the Party Minority Leader would assume the Majority Leader's role by either Special Election or Resolution. It wouldn't make much sense to me that the Congress would allow for such a major influence position to remain unseated for two years. There are surely safeguards in place and, even then, this Congress is absolutely not known for 'acknowledging norms of rules and procedure'.
They really stuck to the whole "less beds" thing as if it actually makes a difference. Can't wait to hear about more dehumanizing conditions in ICE detention centers with overcrowded cells with not enough beds. This has to be the best example of "treating the symptom".
that's not the same as calling an election to unseat a current majority leader. the house had rules that allowed anyone at any time to call a vote which is how the freedom caucus had so much power, but the senate has a process of reorganizing which I think is only done when they have a new senate
