Yeah. I somewhat recently had a run in with some anti-fluoridation conspiracy theorist on Twitter using his degree in law or something similar as proof that he was right. He had a dishearteningly high number of followers. He didn't like it very much when I pointed out that his degree didn't stop him from being a total moron in subjects outside of his field, lol. His only only argument back was him quote tweeting me with a sad attempt at making fun of my chosen field of study to his audience, followed by a block so I couldn't respond. It was hilarious.

unless my understanding of the science of vaccination is whack, isnt the point of vaccination to recieve a dose of the disease in a neutered form so that your body develops anti-bodies to it under safer conditions? I.e. whether you get the disease "organically" or through the vaccine, you end up with the same anti-bodies in your body. the only difference is one way of getting those anti-bodies can kill you.

the issue is that these are dangerous diseases to catch, they all have high mortality rates or no good treatments, and they're all highly contagious so just catching it "to build an immunity" makes you a danger to not only yourself but to everyone around you

Well, vaccines do - usually - cause less long lasting immunity than having the disease proper. But that's also more than enough to function as a vaccine, and the point is so retarded that it's hard to put into words. Get the the disease a 100% of the time, so you don't have a risk of getting it again!

The difference is that a vaccine is a small, inert dose of the virus that your body can easily examine and develop the appropriate antibodies / immunity for with little risk, compared to a full blown living virus that can overwhelm your struggling immune system and fuckin' kill you. That's what is so damn stupid about this nonsense. The reasons she's giving for why we "need" these diseases is the textbook definition of what a vaccine actually does, but the live virus is WAY more dangerous. "Great news! We found a way to introduce you to Polio with none of the risks, so that you can develop an immunity to it and never have to worry about it again!" "Hmm, no thanks, I'll just take the Polio and tough it out on crutches for the rest of my life if I live."

I assume you're joking, but in case you aren't that's really silly since anti-vax is not hereditary. Children of anti-vax parents are not necessarily like-minded. My parents are both anti-vax, but I am not. Education is the best cure here.
