It's Official: Trump Declares National Emergency to Build Border Wall - Polidicks

I don't think people really grasp yet how grave this situation is. This is the worst, most egregious thing he's ever done. There's no precedent for this situation; it's a constitutional crisis in the most literal of senses. The state of emergency allows him to declare martial law along the border which suspends the bill of rights for people in its path. Upon reflection, eminent domain probably won't even be used; he's going to order the Corps of Engineers to roll through and bulldoze everything in the path of the border wall, because they'll be able to do that with martial law in effect. That is the only way he'll be able to get the ranchers out of the way inside of his remaining time in office. If he doesn't do that, they won't be able to get one acre of land before Trump is inevitably impeached or loses the next election.

Somehow in my head trump will call it a military base then give it the name fort freedom. Also think this is a ploy to do something else like deny or shutdown the Russia case.

I have no idea. You will probably see a lot of individual soldiers refusing to comply but I doubt it will be widespread enough to grind the whole action to a halt. Most will just follow orders up until the point where they're actually having to shoot people. At that point who knows what will happen.

None of those national emergences included "I didn't need to do this" in their announcement.

The terms of this one haven't been set in stone yet but the limits of a national emergency are basically up to and including the suspension of Constitutional rights (ie 4th amendment which protects against the unjust seizure of land by the Federal government). That is the only logical path for this one to take if it's actually going to achieve anything.

Time to revoke the national emergencies act

On the radio yesterday I heard Trump say he wanted to install land mines too.

What these dumbfuck MAGA supporters don't realize is, dems could easily pull the same shit with taking weapons and outlawing the second amendment under the guise of state of emergency for rampant shootings. Trump just opened the floodgates of constitutional crises that will eventually tear this country to the ground with how split it is.

It's absolutely being done to distract people from news about the investigation. All Trump ever does is get mad and wave presidential powers around to fix his own problems. It's an emergency in the same way you might rush a child to the nearest bathroom before they shit all over the place.

I am expecting the American Supreme Court to sue this and consequently shut this down ASAP. There is no way anyone in such a place of power should declare a National Emergency and moments later say that they didn't even need to, effectively admitting that they are misusing the entire concept of a National Emergency. I hope America pulls itself together in the coming times. These situations aren't hurting just them, it's hurting the entire world as these send some incredible precedents out into the world for every wanna-be dictator.

Except they never will. This is a brilliant ploy by the GOP, because they know that the Democrats still have standards and actually want this country to function on a bipartisan level. They know the Democrats would never abuse this sentiment, because the Democrats still try to play by the rules. Which basically gives the GOP free reign to do shit like this as much as they want, whenever they have power. Because the GOP don't give a single good damn about the rules.

Eh i wouldn't call the entire military conservative or Pro Trump. Its more of a mixed bag. The Ultimate test of this is if people begin to protest and/or get violent along the border. And what will come to it when they're presented with that situation.
