It's Official: Trump Declares National Emergency to Build Border Wall

And of course the supreme court will uphold it at a 5-4 vote, if it were to go that far. Which means any president can declare a national emergency for literally any reason. Even a completely made up one
If trump decides to use the army and mechanized divisions to go seize land for his wall, khorne will be smiling in anticipation of the glut of bloodshed to come. There's no way something like that won't end extremely badly as it is.
Until a democrat does it, then it will mysteriously change to be 5-4 against
Though the supreme court has cracked down on overreaching presidents, this will be a true test of how partisan our country has become. It may be the final straw if I decide to stay or leave here.
Can't wait until they start trying to seize land in Texas then. They might be big time GOP supporters, but they'll go ape shit over their land being taken for a wall their taxes are paying for instead of Mexico as promised. Have fun with that
I'm in the military and I can tell you more than half (won more) are fairly hard conservatives. Many are so pro Trump they didn't even blink when Mattis got the boot.
Everyone always goes "Just await until the military has to shoot civilians!" as if we're in 4th Generation War but that's never had to happen over the years of people claiming it will and its as reasonably likely as saying this might start WW3 with Mexico.
Can't wait for the next Democrat president to declare national emergency over climate change.
It'll end with protests, the police breaking them up, the border wall being built and so on. I'm as anti Trump as you can get and I'm completely down for a glorious revolution to make the stupidity stop but the last thousand things in controversial American legal history didn't start a civil war and this most definitely won't either.
So how long is this likely to last? I'm due to fly to America in April, and I don't really know what this entails so I'm hoping it won't affect airports.
Last time I visited in January the government was shutdown so I couldn't even do some of the stuff I'd planned, eg the place where the Liberty Bell is in Philly was shut. Getting real tired of Trump causing so much shit for his dumb wall.
This shouldn't affect you personally. It's shitty but there's no shutdown or anything like that.
You won't even know it's a thing unless you listen to the news. It's just the president making up a reason to declare an emergency so that he can just allocate funds from places (Steal is a better word) for his idiot wall
Even without it affecting me I can tell how shitty it is, I'm staggered at the amount of money he's willing to waste for this.
Nearly all of the items in that list had to do with military or diplomatic threats and sanctions on foreign governments. None of these are as blatant about circumnavigating Congress as Trump's. Really, the only one that comes close imo is Nixon's issuance response to USPS strikes.
If he is allowed to get away with this, we may never see another democratic election in this country again. Because it is entirely within his fascist mindset to suspend elections because of his made up emergencies. He will simply say, "This is an emergency, the job has to be done, and I'm the only one who can."
By pen or by sword, he has to be removed from power.
So isn't this considered tyranny?
I thought you guys hated that.
I'm waiting for the contractors to be announced to be ones he himself (or his close family to make it less suspicious) has chosen so he can not-so-sneakily funnel the funds into his bank account.
Then we'll hear from not-very-educated sources that he obtained these funds through smart business strategies.
I think this is the perfect time for people to start chaining themselves to construction equipment. This shit must be fought with every tool available.
Someone just shoot him already. It needs to be done.
haha ownd XD
You're a wingnut pal.
Cause constitutional crisis to own the libs
He said he was going to do it and they didn't believe him, how can you be shocked about it when he's been saying he will do it for over a month?
My favorite thing is that Trump declared a national emergency and then immediately said it wasnt an emergency.
Truly a master of 4d lizard dodecahedron chess
Because it's an abuse of the office of the President. He swore to uphold the office and its restrictions.
For real, I wonder if this can be used against him in the impending legal fight.
There is no legitimate cause to stand behind Trump on now. If you still count yourself among his support base, you're either a cultist or under the spell of his active disinformation campaigns.
He isn't fiscally responsible.
He doesn't care about our soldiers.
He doesn't care about our citizens.
He doesn't care about our Constitution - as proven by his willingness to suspend the rights of people who don't like him.
He doesn't care about the international allies we've forged in blood - what should be unbreakable bonds.
He doesn't even care about your gun rights, and that was the last thing most of his initial voters were holding out hope for.
Even if you discount the Russian collusion as propaganda or whatever (it isn't - the President of the United States actively receiving support against fellow Americans by pinkos should be an automatic do not pass go) - there is nothing, not one policy point he has that aligns with either party's stated goals. He's a dirty, crooked, greedy criminal narcissist who would see this great country burn if it meant his flag was on the highest pole.
This subversion of our constitutional principles should be the absolute very last straw for anyone with a functioning frontal lobe. If, past this burning bridge, you still wanna MAGA, you're an enemy of the state by all rational measurements. Go fuck yourself and I hope by some legal miracle you share a cell with him when this chapter of retardation finally ends.
If I said I was going to shoot someone in the head, then did it, would you be laughing at bystanders who were shocked by the unprovoked violence?
A constitutional crisis is kind of a big deal mate, there's more to politics than ~owning~ the opposition no matter the cost.
If you support trump at this point you are supporting a traitor. Not because of any potential collusion, but because Trump has betrayed the ideals America is based on.
