I still don't understand why building a barrier is a problem.
You've either been willfully ignorant, or not at all informed of the situation if you think that is what this boils down to. It's not about border security anymore.
What is it about then? I thought it was about building a wall to keep people out.
I mean no disrespect, but how are you unfamiliar with it? The Wall™ has been Trump's #1 talking point for the last three years. It's been a point of contention among Americans since he announced his run for presidency and there have been dozens of threads dedicated to this exact topic on facepunch ever since. It's literally the first google result if you type "America wall".
From my understanding it's just to protect Americas sovereign borders although never really understood why he said Mexico as it's unlikely for a country that is already disrespecting your boarders to pay for a wall that will prevent them from doing so.

It's a huge boondoggle project that costs billions of dollars to satisfy a problem that doesn't exist which he promised another nation would pay for to begin with, where the sovereignity of the borders isn't what he's concerned about but the loss of jobs and the ability for criminals to traffic drugs into the united states -- and also, apparently, the ability for refugees to seek Asylum in the United States because they'll 'just keep coming if they don't see a wall that tells them they're not welcome' because that's obviously going to stop people who are fearful for their life from lawfully entering a country which has agreed with the United Nations that it is a place where you may seek asylum.
theres already a barrier in a bunch of places, most 'illegals' come via planes and just stay past their visas, and its a waste of money among the metric ton of other money wasting the government already does
It sounds like it's pointless to even have a boarder.
It's not pointless to have a border. It's pointless to have a border wall if your intent is to keep people from illegally immigrating by overstaying their Visas.
With all due respect, you're taking a very simplistic view on the issue. Yes, the security of our nation must be protected and immigration should occur through the proper channels. However, you're not really thinking beyond those ideological principles. You're not asking yourself or others, "why is there such a focus on immigration? Why are people immigrating to the US illegally, and risking it all to do so? What will a border wall do, and is it worth it?" The simple platitude of "borders are important" doesn't get you out of arguing about the nuances and complexities of the real world.
Ah? So it would be more wise to introduce an ironclad identification system that allows the US government to track US citizen and active visa's while simultaneously making it impossible for any non US citizen or inactive visa to work or even purchase basic services without that ID. Like the showme card from Fringe.
Yes, let's solve a minor economic issue with authoritarian fascism. You are advising using a nuclear weapon to solve the annoying problem of 'a wasp has put up a nest on my porch'.
If you're an authoritarian who's unwilling to consider the actual real-world consequences of the things you dislike, sure.
If that's not the solution then what is?
Are you suggesting that the best way to curb illegal immigration is to deny them of basic human rights?
You know, it's expected for you to put some effort into your posts here in Polidicks but I'll entertain you one last time out of immense patience. The 'solution' can be any number of approaches that actually tackle the issues at hand. We have people seeking asylum. Want them to stop seeking asylum? Improve their countries; that will make them more willing to stick it out in their home countries We have people over-staying their Visa. Want that to stop? Find out why they're over-staying it; why are they not re-opening it? Can we make the process more efficient and easy for them to engage with? We have drug traffickers who are invading through the border to fuel an underground market of illicit substances. Want that to stop? Make those drugs legal and regulated by the state; this destroys the whole market that they are depending on and which underpins their entire operation. Or, you know, any other combination of sensible ideas that actually tackle the problems rather than the 'perceived' or even quite frankly lied about symptoms.
Why do you assume that the problem demands an immediate solution without regard for the consequences?
Adding on to this question: "Because Trump declared a national emergency so it must need an immediate solution" is not a valid response. Trump, himself, admits that it is not 'a national emergency'. The states whose forces have been deployed are recalling them because they, also, 'see no national emergency'.
Rather than insulting me you should educate me.
Rather than one-line quips, perhaps you should actually engage in the debate and offer your opinions. You also dodged the question that was presented: Why does this demand an immediate solution and you are seemingly ignoring any attempts to educate you as to the problem.
You've given fucking garbage one-liners to my posts which have offered actual substance. I tried educating you and you just said "but wall"
How about learn about the issue before making claims
Looks like you got educated, alright.
