O'Rourke tells Texas TV station he's running [for presidency]

Beto O’Rourke told a Texas TV station Wednesday that he's running for president, and he's set to make a formal announcement Thursday morning.
Oh no, he's formally announced of running for presidency!
Don't think he's got what it takes. I welcome him in for the primaries, but I'm sure he'll likely go for a cabinet position.
yes please put more pro-oil company people into office please
Beto was a good candidate for Texas and a hell of a lot better than Ted Cruz, but in the end he's just a corrupt neoliberal moderate democrat like the rest of the establishment. He did excellent campaigning in Texas considering how backwards that state can be, but on the national level he's not what we need, and he shouldn't make it. At best, he deserves a cabinet position.
stop padding this circus with even more people, especially not beto
I thought FP loved Beto what's the deal? Why is everyone ripping on him now?
I think people loved him relative to Ted Cruz, but he's not actually very good for the people. Just better than Cruz.
I was never interest or like that guy in begin with, especially during his senate race, but most this site does over love or rather used to love him, until his flaws begin cropping up.
Beto could have had Texas, but he fucked it up.
No Beto, no!!! Run for Senate again, goddamn it. Utilize the momentum you already have in Texas and challenge John Cornyn instead of muddying up an already large presidential race.
IMO, he did much better than most would have. Why do you think he fucked up?
Still, I think him running for president is a bit silly.
He had a lot of general support but his position on guns opened him up to the usual "HE'S A GODLESS COMMIE" attack and from there everything else stuck and it dragged him down.
It's like I said. Compared to Ted Cruz, the man is a saint, but otherwise, he's just like every other centrist democrat. I don't think he's a bad person and in another world where the US's overton window isn't so fucked towards the right, he would make a really good conservative candidate, but he's not what the US needs right now.
Beto is an AMAZING counter to Cruz in Texas, but he's pretty fuckin corrupt still when compared to Bernie. I'd rather he just endorsed Bernie and stayed the fuck out.
Bernie's running now
FP has been talking down about him since the election, he was just a big chance to put down Cruz so of course he was exciting.
Fact is we're likely going to be looking at a race that includes major candidates Bernie, Harris, Biden, Warren, Booker, Klobuchar, and Beto.
Outside the Bernie/Warren wing he's the best candidate in my opinion.
He'd win AZ, MI, PA, and WI. Harris and Booker I'm not so sure can. Klobuchar could but she's the most moderate of them all, and Biden could but his 90s record is shit and pictures of him being touchy with children will be candy to Trump.
If you disagree, tell me why you think those 4 might be better than Beto.
Match him up with a progressive VP like Tammy Baldwin, Barbara Lee, or Warren and it wouldn't be too bad.
people keep saying he’s corrupt but are failing to provide anything to substantiate that
what’s the deal
I'm thinking being a more moderate/centrist democrat makes him corrupt in the eyes of a good handful of people here.
Bernie thread from a while back
Wall Street freaks out about 2020
After mentioning Bloomberg, Wall Street executives who want Trump out
list a consistent roster of appealing nominees that includes former
Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Kirsten
Gillibrand of New York and Kamala Harris of California. Others meriting
mention: former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, former Colorado Gov. John
Hickenlooper, former Maryland Rep. John Delaney and former Texas Rep.
Beto O’Rourke, though fewally know his positions.
Bankers’ biggest fear: The nomination goes to an anti-Wall Street
crusader like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) or Sanders. “It can’t be
Warren and it can’t be Sanders,” said the CEO of another giant bank. “It
has to be someone centrist and someone who can win.”
-from the Politico article
Had to search for an old post of old mine where I went over with what makes Beto unlikely to support progressive causes, I'm not sure if the link in the post is reflecting information I posted back months ago accurately this month but it seems pretty close to what I talked about then.
Beto has red flags all over him we can't say for certain what he may do, but he may very likely to continue the status quo. (which is not acceptable)
Coincidentally, if you're enthused with O' Rourke's announcement today maybe consider donating to another Democrat's campaign today. Over on a few Sander's subreddits and communities they're trying to raise more donations today than Beto's day 1 haul and while I doubt the Sander's campaign would be as crass as to to make such an announcement if they did, the sentiment is still good. $3.14 or $33.14 for Pi day!
Woof, shilling in threads is tough work.
“I want to be in it. Man, I’m just born to be in it.”
Plus there was all that fossil fuel money he took.
Hes an absolute moron for not going for the senate seat
Quite literally a day late and a dollar short.
"I will not be a candidate for president in 2020,” O'Rourke said in an interview in Houston, Texas, that aired on MSNBC Monday. “That’s I think as definitive as those sentences get.”
It only took four months for him to out himself as a two-faced liar.
Kinda just stealing Bernie's wording there
Ah yes the man who's only notable trait is uh losing to Ted Cruz?
