You're right, we have to stop Bernie Sanders for advocating violence against minorities and be held responsible for his terrorist victim apathy, fueled by active racism.
Let me know how being passive and attempting to rationally argue with Nazis works out. (Hint: It hasn't so far.)
That (along with deplataforming) most definitely did turn people away from fascism. Spencer is much, much less relevant now than he was before that incident. Fascists depend entirely on a façade of strenght. The moment that pretense is shattered, they disappear back into the shadows. Direct antifascist action is the most effective tactic against their rhetoric, and we have many examples of that (the Arditi del Popolo, the Battle of Cable Street etc). PhilosophyTube, on Youtube, has a very extensive explation of the role of violence in the fight against fascism. "Antifa: the Anti-fascist Handbook" by Mark Bray is an even better summary of the reasons why discourse is not sufficient to prevent authoritarianism.
It has though. Their goal of establishing ethnostates are but dreams at this point. Until recently neonazis have been little more than street thugs with no serious political influence. Now, it is concerning that nationalists are vying for power with limited success, however that's not proof that civility doesn't work, but rather proof of other issues. Trump for example got into power thanks to flaws and corruption of the establishment parties. Attacking his followers isn't going to fix that.
Ehhh… you're assuming a lot if you are going to accuse someone of being a crypto-fascist and his main point and most people's in this thread so far is that being egged on the face is annoying and at least warrants some reaction, OK maybe not a punch to the face then but it's not nice to be egged unsuspectingly.
So justifying assault is going to part of your stint on FP eh?
Don't put words in my mouth. I'm simply arguing that charging this politician with a crime for a single punch in response to what is undeniably an action performed to antagonize and humiliate is a ridiculous precedent to set. Politician is a cunt, big guys are brutes and the kid is a colossal moron. The kid had noble intentions but he sure went about them in a moronic way when he reduced them to scoring a viral video, don't tell me that egging his political opposition is the most productive way he could have worked towards his ideals. This scene is a classic example of idiots on both sides of a political landscape. it's sickening how mosts of FP these days seem to be totally fine with violence and underhanded tactics as long as its against the current 'evil'. if it's ok to punch a nazi than you're effectively dehumanizing your political opposition, congratulations, now you're a brand new aspiring fascist yourself.
I think both my posts convey the same message but you're too deep down the rabbit hole to see it. you realize this is the same senator who openly wrote "BUT THE MUSLIMS DESERVED IT" a few hours after the shooting in christchurch? I do, I fail to see what it has to do with my point. but sure i guess some kid tossing eggs at a morally corrupt man deserves getting punched and held down to suffocate by several grown men, totally I didn't mention the big bad goons did i now? as such you are defacto putting words in my mouth? I'm literally saying that you don't get to antagonize someone into punching you and then dragging the victim(yes victim lol) to court, there has got to be a limit to the stupid shit you can get away with.
There's nothing wrong with egging Nazis.
Senator is a known asshole and the kid pressed the right buttons, congratulations you win a punch or two to the face. It's just stupid all around. You can paint whatever picture of my political leanings you want but what I've been saying in this thread is more personal philosophy than politics: Being an asshole to an asshole might feel good but it is never the most productive path. All I see is a 17 year old kid, basically an adult by the standards of society failing to use his words before resorting to medieval mob behavior. I've never been egged but I've been antagonized plenty, I've been spat on, punched, kicked out of my sleep and all sorts of demeaning shit, guess what? I never kept my self control and I like to think of myself as somewhat level headed. Shit is not cool and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, so when I saw this entire thread celebrating/defending an action that in its core is demeaning as can be, I got sad and tried to voice another opinion. how fucking dare I.
tragic? No, I'm saying punching someone who antagonizes you is pretty natural and not a crime. In fact I'm trying to argue that you and mostly everyone would probably do the same. Im not condoning anything or sympathizing with anyone in this whole scenario, I've said it before: there is not a single person in those videos that isn't a complete moron.
If we're not allowed to egg nazis then can we start punching them again.
Mussolini committed several terrorist attacks in Italy, before coming into power. For instance, Mark Bray writes that "in the first half of 1921 alone, roughly 119 labor chambers, 107 cooperatives, and 83 peasant offices were destroyed.". All of this was happening, mind you, in a democratic country, whose parliament had a sizable socialist contingent. The Arditi formed during these attacks, as, essentially, a last attempt by a desperate populace to combat fascists, and they were so effective, even though extremely outnumbered and under opposition from literally every side of the political spectrum, that they managed to force Mussolini to propose a peace treaty, which the socialist party accepted. If the Italian left had grown a backbone, fascism would be in the dust bin of history, where it belongs. The Battle of Cable Street had an immense impact in the fight against, fascism, worldwide, that stands to this day. The symbolical weight of a popular assembly spontaneously and sucessfully organizing to stop a rally of fascists chanting “The Yids, the Yids, we are going to get rid of the Yids,” mobilized jewish people and other marginalized groups in a way that had never really happened before then.
The first tap to the face was fine but he went back in like he actually wanted to fight the kid which is a bit extra.
Pretty sure it is.
I don't like how everyone in here is still using the word punch, e.g. "punching a child", when clearly no such thing occurred. Did your parents ""punch"" you on the ass when you misbehaved when you were a petulant wee child? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/240059/184a9a95-5e9a-4b68-90ea-309b61bbab36/image.png
So if an 85 year old knocks out a 21 year old the "child" bit still holds water? Yes, yes. Assault is assault is assault, etc. My point is that people are abusing the word "punch" to add an unfair spin to the senator's reaction. If "slap" undermines your argument you should stick to the legal term like the rest of us. Oh, but then "man assaults teenager for assaulting him" isn't as spicy a headline is it?
Jesus wept.
What? Do you actually know what the word "fascist" means? I guess you'd argue that those who actually fought fascists a century ago were fascists themselves.
https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/2018/03/12/alt-right-leader-richard-spencer-says-his-rallies-arent-fun-anymore/416579002/ I'd say so
lol had to sneak in that defense of corporal punishment huh
hang all fascists and radical alt-right people tbh
more proof that deplatforming works and resisting these guy's attempts at spreading their bullshit is the best way to curb their idiotic ideologies.
It was the back of his head. It was an egg. On the back of his head. I was kicked in the face twice by a tweaked-out co-worker in an attic, and it took the second kick for me to ask him if he wanted to take it outside, and I'm known to have a temper. What's your point? Punching someone who antagonizes you is a crime. It's called "battery", no matter who is "in the right" unless it's out of self-defense.
my dude, did we watch the same video? kid get's fuckin blapped. And he is literally a fucken kid. at 17 he can't do shit but hold a license for a car. And yes, my dad was an abusive piece of shit and I myself have had my jaw fractured by him before, after stepping up to him while he was hurting my mom. You don't hit kids, especially when you know they can't fight back. If you do? you're a fuckin coward. A fucking pussy.
The guys a politician, a senator of Australia. He should be able to show some fucking self control.
How fucking skewed are your morals when you not only think it's okay to deck someone for egging the back of your head, let alone when you're a fucking senator, but also say they're both idiots with a completely straight face?
And then on top of that not calling off all the goons that jumped the kid and started choking him out.
Let's be real here, the kid smashed an egg on his head while recording it with his smart phone for the Facebook likes and Instagram views and thought he would get away with it. Regardless of the politician's bigotry, I can't believe some people are actually hailing him as some brave young hero I've seen a few posts a few pages back saying assaulting people like this is okay and even encouraged because it fits their "interpretation" of a nazi. I hate the politician and his response to the attacks as much as the next guy but I can't be the only one who finds this acceptable form of violence horrifying As a side note when did this forum become so politically one sided?
He was egged, not stoned.
