I took advantage of it, was quick Nd simpler than other sites.
Who could have guessed that a young phony progressive would be the DNC’s next big thing after 2016?
Shes votes No on one small thing and you guys toss her under the bus. You wonder why America's fucked? This is exactly why. You can't compromise, you can't even fathom that. If someone compromised for any reason, you'd throw them away and get a new one. Guess what will happen? You'll fuck yourselves over by failing to allow for people to have changes of heart, to adopt new stances in favour of changing facts, to have nuanced discussions.
I'm talking literally just federal taxes. State taxes are a whole different thing with with their own added cost. You being married isn't important, if all you're filing is 1040s then you won't pay. If you read and understand my post you'd realise I wasn't talking about the basic 1040.
Exact same shit happened when Bernie endorsed Hillary.
You’re taking this to extremes. This sets a bad precedent for someone who campaigned as being anti-corporate and could hurt people’s trust in her if she continues voting like this. We’re not calling for her to be voted out of office, we’re saying to be skeptical of any politician no matter what party they belong to because no ideology is immune to hypocrisy.
Jesus christ read the article, the progressives voted for it because the good in the bill outweighed the bad
To me it seems like you're acting like a compromise over an issue that you might not have the full story on is suddenly reason to suspect her. She voted for a bill that has tons of great reforms, and a couple bad ones. But I guess we should just say "no" to any and all forms of compromise to maintain "Ideological purity".
I think you’re right. I’m just skeptical of people i don’t know personally in general. Unless they have a dog, then I trust them easier.
tbh in general I'd rather not compromise with republicans. the republican strategy right now is to go 300 miles to the right with insanely regressive policy. if democrats meet them halfway, the country will still suffer. it's not a ideological purity thing. it's a republican policy is fucking evil thing
You kinda have to choose between literally nothing getting done except for things the republicans can do, like stack the courts, and having some compromises. This is the real world and as much as I’d rather republicans be ousted, they have a spot in government at the moment that gives them power. If no compromises are ever made then the only agenda until 2020 is their agenda.
I just don't think compromise for the sake of it is a good thing. you have to consider what the options are before compromise should even be considered.
Yes, you do. And in this case, it seems like a shitty thing but a whole bunch of decent reforms were just passed. Either you have that, and a compromise, or literally nothing but the republicans stacking courts, so that the next 4 decades of judicial decisions go their way. it won't matter if no compromises are made and they can just weather the storm of doing nothing for a few more years and have control of the courts for decades to come. I don't know what the answer is, and no, i don't like that they have to compromise, but I don't know what the alternative you're offering even could be.
I dunno, republicans threw a wrench in whenever they possibly could when it came to obama's agenda. They could do that. in many cases that what these people were elected to do
There's little indication the Democrats had a plan to do so. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_judges_appointed_by_Donald_Trump Here are Trumps judicial Appointments. Not one of the lower court ones has really been contested in any real way.
While Mitch McConnell personally deserves to see all of his dirty tricks be used against him by the Dems, and I'd love to watch his face while it was happening (I'd beg CSPAN to just point a camera on him at all times), the problem is that just turns the government even further away from the body of bipartisan compromise it is supposed to be and used to be. The dilemma is that Republicans don't have any morals or ethics and won't be having this conversation, they'll just do it and damn the consequences -- how does one handle bureaucratic terrorists?
Judicial appointments are handled by the senate, which as I'm sure you know, republicans have a majority in.
I'm beginning to think that the Democrats are Hal from Malcolm and the Middle and the Republicans are Lois
Kind of my point though. They have an agenda. The Dems can't stop it, so the next 40-50 years are Republican oriented, regardless of how we proceed from here. The idea that the Dems should not compromise on anything really, to me seems shortsighted. There's definitely things that they shouldn't, you're right, but if the dems want to have anything to campaign on in 2022 for the House, or 2020 for the Presidency and the Senate, they better do something beside halfassed obstructionism.
The fucking form submission flow-chart in Warhammer 40,000's Imperial Guard handbook, something designed to be satirically overcomplicated, is less complicated than what you just described. What the fuck!
My fucking PURITY HOLY FUCK CORPORATE DEMS REEEEeEE!1!!! God forbid we pass a mostly good bill with a tiny bad provision that doesn't change much anyway
You're forgetting one thing: the bill to reopen the government at the time had no chance of passing, cause Trump and Mcconnel hadn't caved yet. It was the perfect opportunity for AOC to make a stand, given that her vote didn't matter whatsover. Meanwhle, this bill passed with bipartisan support - which, given that it's mostly positive apart from this one regrettable part, is pretty shocking. I completely understand why AOC voted in favor of it.
See, I disagree. I'm of the belief that as soon as Legislative branch is wrestled from the grasp of the GOP and they no longer control the Executive branch, turn their own methods against them and scour their legacy from the country's governing structure. Find or create ways to withdraw every judge all the way to the supreme court, reverse shit like funding the wall and other dumbass policies. Leave them with nothing. I know the reasoning against this is that it sets a bad precedent of just doing this behavior over and over. The problem is they already set that precedent and they show they have no qualms about using it to hurt the people of this country. They will never again play a fair game because they know they can get away with it. So as soon as they are out the door of the highest offices, slam it on their fucking asses. They will do this without end, insure that no ground can ever be made. So either we burn them, or the country will continue to collapse from their actions and policies. This is the world they have made and with them ever having influence, it can never change. They're not interested in making anything better. Like a cancer they must be excised first if the rest of the body is to have a chance of survival.
This is by design. Taxes are designed to be awful to people dislike them. Same with the IRS.
