reminder that devin nunes said that "the mueller report should be burned because it's a partisan piece of shit" and many, many involved persons said the president was in some deep shit compared to the milquetoast reveal barr put out.
Gee do you think the reason nothing's been done since the ejection is because THE CHEATER WON? Who the fuck authorizes an investigation into their own misconduct? I think it's more illustrative to look at how Trump has engaged in obstruction every chance he gets. He even admitted he fired James Comey to make the Russia investigation go away. That backfired and caused Mueller to be appointed, and ever since he's been trying to discredit him by claiming it's a "witch hunt" by "12 angry Democrats". If he did nothing wrong why has he been so desperate to kill it for two years?
I didn't say that, I just think that it's weird that nothing has been done in the past 3 years where pretty much every day revealed new information about this supposed intervention.
Man that's rich. The guy withholds information about Russian corruption, sits on hacked RNC's info specifically because he has it out for Hillary Clinton and wanted to sabotage her, and jere you are acting like you're oh so above it all. You're the only disingenuous hack here. Your posts are consistently idiotic, uninformed, and accusatory because you think getting your takes from chapotraphouse and left wing Twitter is a substitute for properly informing yourself about, well anything. You're a dumb motherfucker and a useful idiot, Jim Morrison. I'm just glad the actual demographics of the democratic party aren't reflective of your particular brand of narcissistic stupidity.
They did. Their investigations are that Russia fucked around with the election. Mueller's indicted a shitload of Russian security operatives by name, and the NSA apparently hacked the Russian intelligence agencies' shit by sending popups directly to individual agents by name on their own computers telling them to fuck off from messing with America. The FBI and NSA cannot, however, control the President, and any direct investigation, i.e. interviewing the President would be fought all the way to the Supreme Court. This is why Mueller settled for written answers instead of subpoenaing Trump to testify -- he probably could've won but it'd have taken so many years to litigate Trump'd probably be out of office before it was over. If it was meant to be easy to take down a President from within, Obama wouldn't have survived his second term. The fact is the system was never expected to handle such a venally corrupt would-be-dictator President with a pack of enablers controlling the Senate and, prior to the midterms, the House.
Unlike Manning, who was under the impression that Wikileaks would actually responsibly release shit and got fucked over because of it, Wikileaks is actually responsible for irresponsibly leaking shit there. They simply took the information Manning gave them and after assuring her they would go through and carefully choose what needs to actually be released, just dumped it all publicly instead. Even if it didn't manage to endanger anyone the fact of the matter is that it was still very reckless and could have gotten people killed. Manning wasn't exactly careful about what information she took, she just took what she could and handed it over to them.
Damn it's almost like Wikileaks warned us that they are compromised if they stop posting those keys of wait they did warned us of that exact event which ended up happening. This thread is a joke, Assange did more good then bad and most of the criticism of Wikileaks happened after the compromising. But hey let's laugh and celebrate some guy being made an example of by the powerful elite for revealing their dirt by getting him locked up on bogus sexual assault accusations.
The only hero is Snowden, she just picked the wrong organization to give the leaks to. If Snowden knew Wikileaks would withhold her leaks for political fuckery instead of just curating and releasing all the leaks as they should have, she probably wouldn't have gone with them.
You might be mixing up Snowden and Manning here.
The maximum sentence he might face for breaching bail conditions in the UK is one year, while the max sentence for his US indictment is five years, FYI
You're thinking of Manning. Really I'd consider her a victim of Assange in all this, by her accounts it sounds like he was manipulative and abusive towards her, and effectively tricked her into handing over classified documents.
Aw fuck I'm sorry, my bad.
https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation/wikileaks-assange-arrested-at-ecuador-embassy-in-london/ Interior Minister Maria Paula Romo said Assange’s mental and physical health worsened while he was holed up, and he began to act out in aggressive ways including by smearing feces on the walls of the embassy.
I don't really condone what's happened to Manning, but it sets bad precedence (and is hypocritical) to ignore the laws on a case by case basis. He aided the leaking of top secret information, so he should be arrested; because what if what he released (aside from election ofc) puts peoples lives in danger? He should be tried and a verdict issued by a jury of the people, be it guilty or not.
What a shitty thing to do!
Ouch. So pathetic character assassination aside, why again is his arrest justified? All people have said is ‘BECAUSE HE BACKED TRUMP’ with bigger words and more angrily. Yeah that was absolutely scummy disgusting and unforgivable, but it’s literally unrelated. Get over yourselves damn.
It's also worth noting he was largely confined to 2 specific rooms, and that the room he spent most of his time in didn't have windows. Even in the other one the shades were forcibly closed nearly 24/7 the entire time. He'd have had more freedom of movement in a maximum security prison. Its pathetic that alot of people in this thread wants him to do 5 years for bogus charges like leaking documents for manning that reveal that the government covered up war crimes during a bullshit war. After he already spent 7 years in the embassy like that? All this because of political nonsense, stay classy lads.
Fucking ridiculous. As I said before, why the fuck does someone's political choice in the US ELECTIONS (THIS ISN'T THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD YOU KNOW) suddenly invalidates all they have done? Assange and WikiLeaks, Manning and Snowden have revealed to us that we shouldn't trust our government. And you come up with "bu-bu-but he backed Trump! he's a bas guy, he deserves to go to jail!". No. Fuck it. It's even more ridiculous to say Snowden might've been backed by Russia. Dude. Just stop. What the fuck is wrong with you americans? When everything isn't to your liking you just straight up blame the Russians because of a fucking historical dispute? Because they went to the space first? Stop being so fucking butthurt about it. Just because he asked for asylum there doesn't suddenly mean they've backed him. It's because of people like you that Russia granted it to him for a short amount of time, so they could use Snowden as a bargain. If this ridiculous dispute didn't exist in the first place, Russia wouldn't grant him asylum, because they are literally as bad as the US when it comes to what Snowden has revealed us. Stop. Just act like a fucking human and stop blaming Russia for everything.
The Wikileaks/Assange saga is a decade old and extremely complicated. So of course people are going to try and simplify him into the hero role or villain role even though he has never fit perfectly into either of those regardless of your political/societal leanings. But he definitely doesn't deserve this or what happened to him.
This is a severe oversimplification of what hes done, conspiring with Russians, trafficking stolen documents to influence and election goes beyond just "backing Trump" or "pathetic character assassination". He was a key suspect in the Mueller probe as well. Sure whatever way they get him back to the U.S to charge him is pretty weak, but saying hes just a poor journalist under attack is just as overly disingenuous lol.
It's not that. People are actually celebrating that he was arrested and for sure want him to be extradited because of this scandal. He leaked several thousands of documents from 2010 to 2015, and for those people it's just not important.
i love it when people put words in my mouth. Snowden is in Russian territory being backed personally by Putin, so I'm not sure why you think it's out of the question that Putin might be influencing him and/or encouraging the divulging of non-5 eyes secrets He helped influence the election by being selective with what he released, I don't know why that's such a hard concept to grasp. It doesn't matter what country it happens to; the country that tries to exert control over democracy is Bad.
Also, there's absolutely no fucking way he'll only get 5 years in the US. He's considered a terrorist and the CIA will manage to get him transferred to Guantanamo and keep him locked up until he either escape or die. That's what the government wants you to think. He's going to have the same fate as Manning, except he won't be pardoned by the government.
I was talking about the posters attacking Jim rather than the content of his posts. Look, I get it. Assange managed to take goodwill and turn it into a healthy dose of disgusting distrust. I think he’s a piece of shit for what he did. That doesn’t mean I find his arrest for an unrelated crime right or just and it would be absolutely hypocritical of me to think so. Whatever you think of the man and whatever his biases turned out to be, this is wrong and sets a terrible precedent for future whistleblowing cases. If he should be extradited anywhere, it should be to Sweden to face his rape accuser.
I've just seen reports of several secret documents going public after his arrest. Can someone confirm? Couldn't find a source in english.
So I'm not necessarily that informed on this topic, but I've seen a lot of people (primarily Americans) "hoping" that Snowden and Assange are both executed under the Death Sentence which is just mind boggling to me. Yes they could be considered traitors to the United States, but are people seriously that delusional that they are constantly in a mindset that the government and its agencies are always doing what is in the best interest of the people? More speaking about Snowden here, but what they did was honestly a pretty big deal for the people. They provided you with access to a LOT of information that allowed you to see all the crappy stuff your own government was doing to it's own people, and despite all that, these 2 are still labelled as traitors and terrorists and have the death sentence wished upon them by the people they are trying to help... Perhaps I'm misinformed, and if so, could someone help me understand better this situation, especially in the US and what the general opinion is on these whistleblowers? Because from where I'm sitting, it seems like a large majority of your population has a mindset of; "How dare you tell me my government is screwing me over in all these different ways!".
Heard that Ecuador wants guarantees that he won't be extradited to a country with death penalty. I don't know, why people want him executed, this seems very extreme to me. Like yeah, there's a lot of shady stuff with the guy and Wikileaks, possible election fraud and government influence. Which is why I'm glad that he was finally arrested. But again, why death penalty? Imprisoning would do the justice. At this point I'm glad he was arrested in UK and not US, where Death Penalty is a thing.
Assange is about as much a champion of the free press as Ed Gein is a champion of tasteful furniture. I think few people in history have ever so perfectly betrayed every value they claimed to have stood for. The fact that he'll likely face a far harsher punishment in the very anti-press, anti-transparency, and anti-truth climate he helped create is a poetic punishment for such a sublime embodiment of hypocrisy.
AFAIK the outrage has little to do with the fact Wikileaks leaked classified information, but rather that they knowing withheld information on the Republicans and Russians. I'm not 100% certain Assange has a malicious agenda but Wikileaks most certainly does. I don't know why there's outrage about Snowden, though as far as I can tell he (somewhat ironically) hasn't been compromised by anyone.
Yikes, I don't see him leaving jail if he gets extradited to the USA. However... and this is optimistic... if he is put on a legitimate trial with judge and jury, they might rule that his whistle blowing was a public good and in the interest of the people. I for one do not want whistle blowers to be prosecuted and jailed. I would prefer to know what dodgy activities my governments or other governments are doing.
