"the draft resolution has already been stripped of one of its most important elements, the establishment of a formal mechanism to monitor and report atrocities, because of opposition from the US, Russia and China, which opposed creating a new monitoring body."
"Even after the formal monitoring mechanism was stripped from the resolution, the US was still threatening to veto the watered-down version, because it includes language on victims’ support from family planning clinics."
So they don't want Atrocities to be monitored and they don't want women to be allowed abortions.
God. What a shithole country the US has become...
"has become" where have you been for the past forever?
The bible doesn't care about abortions, not reallytr
Religion as an excuse to keep people mired in poverty
"Opiate of the masses" seems pretty compelling under Republican policy
For anyone who might dispute this UN resolution, by the way, just go listen to some of the post-WWII European survivors' interviews. There's a couple that mention the 'rolling rapes' of both armies (Soviet and German and the atrocities of some Americans too) that will chill you to the bone.
If you look into the History of Warfare. Rape has often been used as a form of instilling fear into the newly conquered populations or as a way to let the occupying army get their rocks off during occupation.
Thinking it doesn't have a place in Warfare or isn't considered to be a tool of warfare is fucking Naiive.
I think you're missing the point by a mile. The UN resolution is a measure similar to the Geneva conventions trying to set standards for warfare. Not denying it ever had strategic import.
The country really has become a shithole. Look at who it's grouped with, now:
“Until the Trump administration, we could always count on the Americans to help us defend it. Now the Americans have switched camp,” the diplomat said. “Now it’s an unholy alliance of the US, the Russians, the Holy See, the Saudis and the Bahrainis, chipping away at the progress that has been made.”
How can a favorite pastime of one of our Supreme Court members be a weapon of war? Next you're gonna tell me that the sexual harassment locker room talk enjoyed by our current president who appointed him is wrong, too.
No i fully understand it's not denying it. But given the context of our current US government. It would not surprise me if they try to brush Rape in warfare under the rug. Or flat out deny it happens. Its the same mentality of like holocaust denialists. "It never happened, and even if it did, who cares or maybe they deserved it".
It's not a part of modern warfare. The U.S. military in particular would rather shed sweat than blood and neutralizing the enemy with water pipelines proper farming methods, mechanization and roads is highly preferred over shooting and raping the populace because not only is it cheaper to move dirt than to manufacture weapons of war and turn the locals against you the U.S. Military is also acutely aware of the artificial value our society has placed upon our soldiers and absolutely does not want another anti war crusade stateside like what happened in Vietnam after the Tet offensive.
We see the drones and weapons of war constantly in the media but no one ever seems to give praise to the roads, canals and buildings put down that end up doing more for ending the war than any rocket, bomb or bullets.
Make no mistake though the U.S. soldiers are acting as civil engineers they still are first and foremost soldiers and will fuck you long hard and deep if you shoot at them.
There's also the dumbfuck caveat of "Oh it's just a Few Outliers and a Crime that Would Occur Anyway Therefore Not War."
You know, as if "The Rape of Nanking" was named that purely to describe the desecration of the area and not... you know, the mass rape they performed.
"Rape works, folks. Believe me, it works. It works."
"You need to go after their families"
Is the end of the ride coming up because I want to get off of it
That last part of your post is incredibly true. All the social progress we've made has been undone in however long Trump has been in office. It's pretty sad. Also, I can tell who the Repubs are by who rated my previous post Dumb and Baby.
