not sure how it works in britain but threatening violence directly against someone is hate speech not protected speech.
He seems to think he can get away with it by being all like "I DIDNE ACKSCHULLAY SAY I WAS GUNNA RAPE HER DIRECTLY", while being completely tone deaf about why exactly what he did say was completely fucking stupid.
Much the same but our definitions of hate speech are a little less strict.
Degenerates of a feather, and all that. UKIP, its leadership and voters are all scum cut from the same cloth. Some just hide it better than others.
Threatening violence is assault over here, irrespective of whether or not one actually intends to do anything. Mere invocation of worry on the part of the victim is all that is necessary to meet the legal criteria. It's a crime, not some convoluted and stretched form of freedom of speech. Also, freedom of speech isn't unfettered in Europe so it's not even an argument to fall back on.
Anyone with background in law to certify whether this is covered by defamation? Everyone can see he's going for the plausible deniability route, but I'm skeptical as to whether magistrates would even adress the attempt to preemptively cover one's ass with this sort of language.
