Replace 9/11 with the Korean War and I would agree with you. The US has always been like this too, it's only after WW2 that it's been able to swing its power around the world. Communism was replaced with Islamic Fundamentalism as the target.

We've made some missteps and out foundation is currently a bit shaky but if we as a country decide to put actual effort into fixing that and have the right person at the helm then things could truly be good.
