https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48289550 President Donald Trump has declared a national emergency to protect US computer networks from "foreign adversaries". The president signed an executive order which effectively bars US companies from using foreign telecoms believed to pose a security risk to the country. Mr Trump does not name any company specifically in the order. However, analysts suggest it is mainly directed at Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei.
I actually support this. Keep China's oppressive, vile tendrils the fuck out of the West's important infrastructure.
About fucking time
Neat! This follows another Executive Order he released a few weeks ago about increasing IT and Cyber jobs: https://www.nist.gov/news-events/news/2019/05/executive-order-americas-cybersecurity-workforce https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-americas-cybersecurity-workforce/ I am very surprised, but I really like this.
Broken clock etc etc
If this was nearly anyone else as President I would see this an all around good thing. With Trump, my only thought is how NOW, CONVENIENTLY when foreign nations could interfere with his reelection campaign, this was worth addressing.
a stretch for sure, but wouldn't it be fun if this was a direct response to Hillary's "if China is listening, go dig up his taxes" joke a couple weeks back?
Considering how hilariously insecure Trump is, would anyone actually be surprised to find out that's the motivation?
Seing how Cisco is constantly fucking up their security while Huawei opened up their source code to FiveEyes, nobody in the tech industry actually beliees that this is anything but a political blunder.
I have a son. He's 10 years old. He has computers. He is so good with these computers, it's unbelievable. The security aspect of cyber is very, very tough. And maybe it's hardly doable. But I will say, we are not doing the job we should be doing. But that's true throughout our whole governmental society. We have so many things that we have to do better, Lester, and certainly cyber is one of them.
I looked at the title and laughed at the thought that Trump's Twitter account was under threat by hackers hence we need more cyber security people. In all seriousness though this is actually one of the few good things? But I also feel that it was inevitable doesn't matter who'd declare it.
Heartbreaking
Ironic considering he was partly elected because of cyber-security breaches...
the irony is that 2 years ago he dismantled much of the government's apparatus to combat this threat because it was all a hoax made up by the democrats, now we're in a worse position and with an admin that is run by technophobes in charge to try and reestablish those capabilities.
Did a chinese hacker steal his twitter account?
I'm sure we'll find out he only restarted plans after someone he's friends with figured out how to turn it into a vehicle for graft and embezzlement and is giving Trump a cut on the side.
there a rumor he wanted to outsource the whole thing to Guliani's cyber security firm that doesn't appear to do anything Nobody seems to know what Rudy Giuliani's cybersecurity firm act..
