Don’t ever put your faith in the state that gave us Pauline and Clive, haha
Yeah, I remember when he was first made leader and I when "who?". He's a nonperson, a bit like a rock.
we also did fraser anning
Antony Green has called it for the Coalition
Good stuff, 3 more years of crap government. Sorry to the rest of the world about our inability to act on climate change.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1232/282a99f8-f8e9-4b97-aac2-496ce7e9694e/image.png looks like coalition will win, unsure if minority or majority.
Oh shit, it seems my electorate wasn't as safe a Liberal seat as I thought. Seems Labour might win it by about 0.5%. I donkey'ed on my House of Reps vote because I didn't think it would matter and they're both shit anyway.
you know donkey votes still count right
Come on mate. It doesn’t matter if you’re more inclined to support Labor, Liberal or even One Nation. But your vote always matters, and I don’t believe you should waste it like that. I live in an ultra safe Labor seat, and so I always preference Nationals in front of Labor for the House. And now the incumbent’s margin on the seat has fallen from 12.5% to almost 2%, so votes like mine can help tip a seat from being safe to becoming marginal.
But it does matter, and it's important for a leader to be charismatic. I agree that policy on behalf of the government does not require charisma, but it's an undeniable fact that a leader needs charisma. This isn't a problem with Labor, it's a problem with Shorten. This problem has caused Labor to miss out on the huge amount of voters who look for charisma over policy, which is fucking retarded, yes, and labor should plan on that happening. (Because it happens at every election).
I mean in fairness ScoMo has about as much Charisma as a wet cum rag.
And then there's me who can't vote despite wanting to because my postal vote never arrived....
Current seat count for the House is Liberals and Nationals: 73 seats Labor: 65 seats Greens: 1 seat Others (including independents): 5 seats Seats still in doubt: 7 seats
Charisma is the currency of leaders but also con-men and the government as of now, has the tendency to produce the latter.
someone posted this on /r/australia and i agree heaps Look, I'm bitterly disappointed about the result. Congratulations to all the tories in the election thread on the upset. No, I won't neck myself (as some so kindly suggested) but I'll give credit where it's due. I think the most disappointing thing is the message this election will send to leaders for future campaigns. Bill Shorten is now a cautionary tale about what happens when you put forward a bold policy agenda that tackles the hard, politically prickly issues. I don't think people can ever complain about the lack of quality and reformist policies whilst voting for folks that actively shit on them in such a pugilistic manner. The only positive I can see from this is that the Liberals get to own the inevitable recession in the coming term. I hope, for the nation's sake, that I'm wrong though.... Say bye to campaigning on policy.
They both fairly uncharismatic. The Main reason Liberals have won is from preferences From the Palmer United Party and One Nation. Makes sense really, the news have been telling everyone how bad Labor is for years and now the Liberals have been messing up for years so people vote for other parties, even the stupid ones.
unfortunately too many dickheads in the country don't take politics seriously. Even a lot of people who 'take it seriously' can't see any further than the face of the party.
hes right though, they lost because the average voter is a braindead moron who will vote more on how much advertising they're fed and which party makes their willy feel big than anything sensible shorten is culpable in this for not rousing people enough, the same way someone who doesn't physically rip the car keys out of a drunk's hands is culpable for them running into into a tree realistically we now have to wait three years and hope the murdoch media loses interest in being a propaganda machine, or just become wealthy and buy out the liberal party ourselves since they're corporate whores for anyone with a donation
That's exactly right, the stats being shown on the ABC right now show first preference votes are down for both major parties, but first preference votes are up for independents/minor parties by a huge amount. And those minor parties just so happen to have preference deals with the coalition.
I reckon Labor did lose on policy, but because they were too ambitious. Voters can appreciate some change, but I think the extent of Labor’s policy platform scared some people.
Meanwhile on r/Australia: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58083/84929c1d-66c5-4194-9658-81e41e874947/image.png
LNP will form majority government again. This is Labor's fault squarely. You can see the turnoff from the major parties with the third party votes. Hopefully Shorten gets replaced and they can come back next election with a landslide.
i hope morrison gets backstabbed and dutton takes over and an election happens earlier as a result of the fallout, but that's wishing for a very specific timeline.
This is vile. https://twitter.com/lhilakari/status/1129526632245411841
I don’t think the minor parties should be blamed for the result. Yes, there have been ‘preference deals’ done between the Coalition and One Nation and United Australia Party. But the extent of those ‘preference deals’ is literally just the ordering of the candidates on the ‘how to vote’ cards that are distributed by party volunteers outside the polling places. And I trust that a clear majority of Australian voters don’t pay too much attention to those. I imagine that any first preference votes which Labor lost to One Nation or UAP will ultimately flow back to Labor, before they go to the Coalition. Vice versa, any first preference votes the Coalition lost to minor parties will ultimately flow back to the Coalition.
Pur country is full of fuckwits
he also shit his pants in a mcdonalds in 1997
this is depressing. i don't know what i expected. i just want a government that actually fucking cares about the planet we're living on instead of how much money they can make for their friends, is that too much to ask for at this point
I just hope that European governments will be able to do something about climate change, because there's no way that Australia (and presumably the US and UK) is going to be proactive in combating climate change now.
