So honestly, what's stopping Labour from taking over?
A competent leader with an actual stance on Brexit.
I suspect the upcoming timeline looks like: PM Boris Johnson -> Vote of no Confidence -> General Election. I'm not sure which of his actions will lead to the government collapsing, but one of them inevitably will.
You need an election for that. Polls currently can't decide if Labour would even get a majority, a percentage chance that might decrease for as long as Cowardly Corbyn sticks around.
PM Boris Johnson -> No Deal Brexit -> Recession -> Vote of no Confidence -> General Election
But wouldn't that just give Boris enough time to grab the steering wheel and yank it towards a hard Brexit crash? Because my main concern is someone just taking over and dragging everyone out without any voting or anything.
Trying to force a no deal brexit would probably lead to a vote of no confidence, I expect.
on the other hand, an actual stance on brexit would probably serve to relegate labour into obscurity if the latest opinion polls are anything to go by. opinion polls on leave vs remain have actually edged back to leave in the past couple of weeks.
Does this mean this Brexit nonsense will finally end or are we going to deal with Brexit until the end of time?
Read up, don't be a blind supporter even if it's mild and you don't even live in the EU. A lot of people don't realize what "just leaving" means. It means letting China and cheap goods flood our market while we can't compete with our own, it means chaos on imports and exports and it means the return of the troubles in northern Ireland, which was 100 times worse than any Isis attacks have done here, such as a mortar attack on downing street. It's mostly driven by British exceptionalism, this idea that we are still massive great empire and we survived the blitz and nothing can stop us. The world is a totally different place and people need to realize what the UK's position actually is.
I hope she won't sleep for weeks
Good thing that it's not going to happen then, like I ain't being glib here as it's pretty clear the EU has them in a vice grip and I really can't blame the EU for that. Was still funny seeing the referendum fall on it's face, but I severely doubt it'd go the same way again
you entered this thread not even knowing what Brexit is as a political process or what the resignation means for it, why are you now acting like you have the remotest idea what you're talking about
I feel like a lot of people like to support Brexit because it aligns with their general principles of smaller governmernments, independence or whatever but that if you'r one of them you should reevaluate your principles and ho your values apply in practice.
Even if the idea of Brexit sounds appealing to you, you need to step back and evaluate the main supporters of Brexit, all people who stand to gain from deregulating businesses, parcelling off the NHS to private medical companies and otherwise opening Britain's rear-end to a long hard shafting from corporations. The "champions" of Brexit are slimy, corrupt toad-people who absolutely do not have the people's interests at heart, and should never, ever be trusted.
How can someone support Brexit when they don't even understand how the British political process works? It's fundamental, a core root, to even being able to form an opinion on Brexit. 'Feels right' sounds emotion-driven, rather than having any basis of rationale, so kindly keep that out of a debate that has the potential to severely cripple an economy and rip foreign, and domestic, relations to shreds as easily as if they were shreds of paper. As it stands, Brexit is happening. All the odds says Theresa May will be followed by a strong Brexiteer (Boris Johnson is apparently the favourite). Boris Johnson, if we are to assume he is the successor, has no issue with no deal. The ship is still sailing, we've just so happened to have a mutiny. If anything, the chance of Brexit happening just got raised up a notch, in my opinion at least.
Jesus Christ, imagine Boris as PM. I'm going to the UK for a work project for a year, but at least I get to go back home afterwards.
A lot of people voted based on emotion. It's dumb but it's hardly unprecedented. Everybody I know who voted for Brexit did so for one of the following emotionally charged reasons: "Taking back control" - AKA the sovereignty argument that's not hugely based in reality a lot of the time Immigration "Britain is best country ever" - logic from old people who still think we have lots of influence in the world
Who else remains as a viable candidate to replace her now? Rees-Mogg? Boris "took a page from Nigey and fucked off after Brexit" Johnson? Amber Rudd? They can all fuck off as far as I'm concerned, none of them are competent nor are they worthy of the country. We'd be better off digging up Winston Churchill's skeleton and propping it up in the Prime Minister's chair than any of the 'candidates' in the Conservatives right now. As amusing/satisfying as it may be to drink the tears of MaggieMayBot 2.0 the Prime Minister's office is going to be a poisoned chalice, at least as far as the Conservatives party is concerned. Nobody is going to come out of it without being reviled/forgotten as their last two predecessors have been.
well she went and done it.
I was trying to think of song by a British artist that fits how I feel about this and I was going to post something by Al Bowlly, but then I remembered that Jack Hylton recorded the ironically titled “Blue Skies Are ‘Round the Corner” in 1938. https://youtu.be/NgpCSpdpccY
I'm not sure what this proves? I knew that. It's dumb, yes, but at least it's coming from a Brit, someone who has experiences of UK life. They have that underlying stance, that underlying connection. There is reason behind the mania, even if you or I disagree with it. An American commenting on the affairs of a country they (1) don't understand, (2) know nothing about, (3) see through a tinted lens, all on the basis of emotion is ridiculous.
Well, this is an international forum where people discuss politics, so people from other countries will naturally comment on what they think about stuff that has happened in countries they don't have personal experiences living in.

god, bring back sanius and tudd already, this new wave of shitposters is just boring.
How about get rid of all of them.
What im getting here is youre a "super, super mild supporter" of Brexit because the people who tried hard to keep their country falling into strife failed. Yeah, lmao bro.
Except outlandish statements and conjecture based on an incredibly tinted lens through which you view the scenario isn't discussion. This isn't a 'oops, I got the facts wrong', it's 'oops, I'm not going to look at any facts, but here's my blind take on a matter that could ruin people's lives xD'.
Finally, we have ousted the vampire count
