Is the DoJ 'interpreting laws" unique to this current president, or has it be a thing before him?
Either way it should be fixed, but I'm curious if Trump is setting a new precedent.
Couldn't really answer that confidently. But, they do have things like the ATF and DEA who basically seem to be given free reign on what is and isn't legal based on their interpretation of the law.
See: automatic shoe strings, drug scheduling, etc.
Dictatorships and facism explode in size when the leaders know losing their grip on power would mean losing everything and being punished severely for their crimes.
Look at Venezuela, avoidance of being punished for corruption and more was pretty much the main motivator for Maduro ascend into dictatorship. Many similar points in history as well.
Would Trump give up power peacefully in 2020(or 2022) if it means he will lose everything and rot in jail?
