He becomes president, IIRC As far as I know, it takes a separate impeachment to get rid of him with Trump. And honestly I think Pence may actually be clean from all this. Not to mention he's faaaaar more a conservative Republican than Trump ever was, so Congressional GOP will love him in office een more than Trump.
I don't think the enthusiasm for the dems is going to go away that easily, especially looking at some of the recent results in elections. This is an issue that won't go away until people get their chance to do something about it.
Technically they could probably impeach him. It only needs 51% of the house to impeach. But it requires 2/3ds of the senate to REMOVE from office. That's if they win the house, which is possible.
From Wikipedia:  Currently, Democrats have 24 seats up for election, as well as the seats of two independents who caucus with them. Republicans have nine seats up for election.  I don't think the Dems are going to get the Senate. On NPR yesterday they were discussing the potential blue wave in regard to the PA election. They said that Democrats are looking for a break even in the Senate. If they lose a seat, they want to gain a seat. They're not looking or hoping for a gain, only to hold ground. Mueller has to come up with something that is so incredibly damning that even GOP congressmen will vote for impeachment. And I'm not sure anything short of a picture of Trump giving Putin a handjob will do that.
It's important to keep in mind that Russia is still actively attacking our democracy with hacking attacks, botnets, blackmail, sedition, and propaganda of all flavors. As we draw nearer to November, expect those efforts to ramp up considerably, because the GOP is 100% counting on it to save their asses. This is why they have done absolutely nothing to defend us against it. Of the $120,000,000 sent to the State Department for the explicit purpose of devising countermeasures to protect our political, social, and economic stability against Russia's attacks, not a single dollar has been spent.
Ahh, right, I was confusing the two, thank you very much for the clarification (and the slight relief)
Yes Dems are going to be lucky if they can just keep all their senate seats up this year. Places like Missouri and Indiana have not gotten more friendly to dems. But with a big wave it's possible they can all hold on.
Yeah but holding on still isn't enough for removing Trump from office. They would need something like 10 to 15 Republican senators to jump ship and vote for removal if it comes to impeachment.
If Trump is impeached AND convicted by the Senate, then Pence becomes president. If Pence is implicated in this as well, he could be removed too, which would put whoever his VP pick is in charge. If somehow they are both removed at the same time without a VP pick by Pence, then I'd imagine it would fall to the Speaker of the House, which is currently Paul Ryan.
I thought i read that if trump was impeached and charged for actual intent to damage the united states (if he willingly colluded and put russia's interests first) then basically him and his whole cabinet are out. But that's never happened before so im not sure.
As far as I know, Trump and only Trump would be removed from office. Pence could possibly even keep the same exact cabinet as Trump if he wanted, though I sincerely doubt he would ever do that. All those cabinet members still passed their senate approvals even if Trump is ousted.
Pence plays dumb but I think he's just as dirty as trump
I'd say it's more accurate to say he's playing it smart. I reckon he's just better at covering his tracks, knows how to keep the dirt off of him and knows how to lay low. I don't believe for a second that Pence has absolutely no knowledge of anything related to all the shady goings on with Trump's landfill of a presidency. I mean, do we really expect the vice president to basically have absolutely no knowledge of what the president or anybody else in the administration for that matter is up to? Nah, I'm not buying that.
