no, i'll just go bomb the white house because you taught me they're the same thing
Nah, I am trying to teach you both are stupid, but it looks like everything gets confused a bit in your head.
and didn't you say earlier as well as how throwing water at a woman made you a creepy fuck?
no i said odds are if you're specifically throwing water on a random womans chest you're probably a creep
Femen isn't planting bombs. They're not taking hostages or hijacking planes. They're targeting certain prominent public officials to humiliate them and make an impression - Not so that the officials change their mind, but so that the people take a close look at said officials and the wrongs they have committed/allowed to be committed.
I fully support and approve of their actions, because there's really no better way to draw attention to a cause.
Even if the casually misogynistic on this forum scoff at it.
I scoff at it because I don't see what it accomplishes. i see this pop up in news feeds on facebook, and people aren't getting that there's a femenist element to this. They see tits(censored)
I don't see them accomplishing things. Power to them, but I don't see the point to it.
Most people already knew there was an issue from history class talking about Women's Suffrage in the '20s and the point in the '60s when feminism emerged, FEMEN didn't teach anybody about the issues women face, and most people who see them do whatever don't learn anything and if they know about women's issues often see FEMEN as going about this in the entirely wrong way.
is it FEMEN's fault that all you see are tits and women screaming?
people like you, hullu, awesomecaek, and etc. could already give less shit about women's right no matter how polite or politically correct a protest is done, they're not there to protest to change your guys opinion cause you guys dont care
their job isn't to attract people who automatically uses FEMEN as evidence as to why feminism is harmful because those same people are fucking idiots
their job is to use shock factor albeit harmless to inform people who has forgotten sexism is still an issue, if they changed some people's mind for the better, that's change already

Thanks god the casually misogynistic forum has a squad of fearless white knights who will bravely defend any dumb shit people do as long as it has ~feminism~ sticker on it.
Seriously, I am starting to get the impression you would defend them even if they blew the guy's head off.
Alas, this is indeed pointless, I will rather go argue with the toilet about his problems with flushing, he at the very least gives a shit.
I do believe you miss the entire point of FEMEN and their effective - if unconventional - tactics.
Civil discourse seldom gets results. When you want the public's eye on a certain important issue, there are two ways to accomplish it. One, stage a radical and attention-getting protest (which is what they're doing) and two, kill a lot of people and leave a manifesto.
I think I prefer their method better.
FEMEN isn't exactly effective at what they're trying to accomplish because politicians ignore them and most people think they're a joke.
FEMEN isn't exactly effective at what they're trying to accomplish because politicians ignore them and most people think they're a joke.
yes, so many people ignoring them that they're reported by new agencies all over the world.
if the catholic church can humiliate women and african people by denying them rights and saying that AIDS was not a punishment but rather justice sent from god then why cant femen humiliate church officials with an act infinitely less malicious?
Thanks god the casually misogynistic forum has a squad of fearless white knights who will bravely defend any dumb shit people do as long as it has ~feminism~ sticker on it.

yeah, definitely brodude
not only have you taught me bostom bombers and femen share the same brutality, they have also share something with blowing a innocent dude's head off
can i live in your world???

then go argue with the toilet obviously we wouldnt be missing anything of substance anyway

Actually when I first heard of FEMEN I opened up wikipedia to see what they were so upset with and realized what they were protesting against (nonviolently) was entirely legitimate and, up until then, mostly unkown societal issues in Ukraine and Europe in general.
If you just sit back and go "nice tits" and then start talking about how ineffective they are, your ignorance is only on you, no one else. Stop blaming other people because you are too lazy or apathetic to care.

in our post-modern world media attention = power
like lolwutdude pointed out, if these people did anything lesser it wouldnt force people to read up on their target and make sure that the public remembers the vile disgusting things this man has said

yeah maybe you should argue with a toilet, an inanimate object won't say anything back and you'll be able to keep hiding in your little world of privilege where every woman is quiet and courteous
people like you, hullu, awesomecaek, and etc. could already give less shit about women's right no matter how polite or politically correct a protest is done, they're not there to protest to change your guys opinion cause you guys dont care
They (or is it we?) don't care about women's rights? Now, I haven't dug through all their posts, but from this thread I haven't seen anything that implied that. Unless, of course, you assume anyone who disagrees with FEMEN's style of protest obviously disagrees with all their ideals.
FEMEN isn't exactly effective at what they're trying to accomplish because politicians ignore them and most people think they're a joke.
The media won't cover certain issues because they're not interesting enough. And the sad truth is that the fight against injustice in society is often boring, frequently disappointing, and infinitely frustrating, and doesn't exactly make good TV news. What happened to Occupy? They're still there, but when was the last time you heard about them in the news?
Media coverage is an essential element to any civil movement. Without it, they have no power to spread their message.
FEMEN employs tactics that are guaranteed to get media attention. Sure, a shitload of people miss the point entirely, but not everyone. And FEMEN's considerable power lies in that it operates outside of society's norms of what constitutes decorum, while at the same time not actually hurting anyone.
This is the GOOD kind of radical. I feel that more people should support them, because one way or another, they're doing something different and something necessary, even if they make a lot of noise and offend the more delicate sensibilities among us.

Yeah, you're very right, it is power. But it's power if it's understood. I don't see this being understood by most. Awesome, we have some people in here who understand enough feminist idealogy and care about the state of women across the world, but I don't think most people who see a femen rally on the news or facebook or what have you have that same background of information, nor do I think femen drives them to look it up
like I said earlier, power to them, but I don't see the point

I am actually concerned with a number of equality issues, such as discriminatory hiring practices and the wage differences between men and women, just because I think FEMEN are useless doesn't mean I don't care about equality. What I posted was a postulation of what most people likely think when they see FEMEN on the news, personally I think they're a bunch of radicals who accomplish nothing and detriment feminism and women's rights activism more than they help it.
FEMEN isn't exactly effective at what they're trying to accomplish because politicians ignore them and most people think they're a joke.
Politicians are hardly their target audience, and while they obviously caused a lot of laughter, the point they were trying to bring to attention (which had little to do with feminism but homophobia, which seems to have flown over most of this threads head) is taken seriously by the rest of the world which is grounded in reality.
I'm seriously feeling embarrassed reading this thread, it's filled with virgins and casual sexism who are trying to justify pouring water on a dude as assault and tons of other shit just so they can bitch about a feminist group.

and as said, they're not here to change your mind specifically, they could care less, if you already think of them as silly tit showing women, you're always gonna think like them about it. if people say feminism is automatically bad cause a minor organization called femen does stuff like this, they don't want them either cause they're dumbasses
they're here to bring issues into light, if it changes one person's mind, making people look them up, why they're doing this, and etc. that's change already

Criminal behaviour is neither good nor necessary, and that is what assault is. Their means of protesting is also not necessary, nor do I feel it is good, as I just mentioned I think it is actually overall negative and detriments their cause rather than helps it, because it staves off support of the general public and is too ludicrous for any politician to take seriously or publicly support. They accomplish nothing but making fools of themselves and, in my opinion, of the women's rights movement in general.
They also don't have "considerable" power, whether they have any power at all is a debatable point.
I'm seriously feeling embarrassed reading this thread, it's filled with virgins
I forgot that your opinion's mattering is correlated to how much sex you have. Is "virgin-shaming" a thing?
who are trying to justify pouring water on a dude as assault and tons of other shit just so they can bitch about a feminist group.
But it is as far as we know? If you want to claim that it isn't, find the Belgian laws that say so. You've made this claim twice, but you haven't backed it up.
fearless white knights
Go back to Reddit, please.

Laws against assault are meant to protect the rights of individuals and their dignity. In this case, they committed assault against an official of an organization known to commit many injustices in the name of god. The point is that they didn't beat this guy up, they just poured water on him. He's not going to catch pneumonia and die.
Breaking laws in protest is called civil disobedience, and I very much admire the restraint of Femen in their civil disobedience. Nine times out of ten they never lay a hand on anyone, and when they do, it seems pretty much harmless, as it was in this case.
If the law keeps them from getting their message out, then fuck the law. Because nobody died, nobody was badly injured, and they'll happily serve their time for their cause.
They're exemplary citizens and free spirits because they aren't afraid to break laws, and at the same time they won't go too far. They wield the power to rally many to their cause, even if they're not interested in pleasing everyone.
Criminal behaviour is neither good nor necessary
dont break the law people!!! youll get in trouble!!!

alright so we'll assume the "average" facebook retard is that majority of people, so you're saying the majority of people who see a picture of naked women, with or without signs displaying their causes, that the majority of that majority, are going to take the time to look them up and understand their cause?
I hope so but I haven't seen that happen on any of my news feeds, or my friends news feeds.

The entire point of civil disobedience is that it's illegal. For someone who is eager to explain to everyone how incredible the second amendment is, you seem really opposed to freedom of expression and right of protest.
I love how small the censors are ahahhaha
