If the mother was actually trying to calm the kid down and wasn't one of those bitches that glare at you if you so much as look like you have a problem and leave the child there screaming their lungs out on the floor then I think the slap was unwarranted. I only hate the parents who completely ignore their child when they start screaming, if they're actively trying to calm them down then I won't say anything because they're probably embarassed enough. That being said if I was there with my child and I'm trying to calm him down when some 61 year old man comes and starts slapping him around the face then I would have probably snapped and tried to hit him.
