Petition going on in San Francisco to ban male circumcision

It's funny, this was one issue I thought was so utterly engrained and unimportant that I would never be in a position to have to think about it.
Thanks a whole lot In The News, now everyone is thinking about dicks.
Dicks.
This much arguing about fucking DICKS.
What the fuck, thirteen pages about whether a little skin on your cock is that big a deal?
Just wow...

How fucking old are you? Honestly. I'm sick of these juvenile posts. Does the sight of a penis make you tremble? Does the word send a shiver down your spine?
Talking about a penis is just as disgusting as talking about a nose. Nobody is even just talking about penises. We're talking about the ethics of mutilating a child just because it's the social norm. It's a relic of tribal bullshit.
Eh, the parents circumsized me. It doesn't bother me, but I'd have liked to have my own choice.

5. sorry. yes. yes.
this was stupid from the start!
What I don't understand is why female circumcision is very often called genital mutilation and is highly stigmatized, and male circumcision is not.
Because it usually involves cutting off the clitoris :v:
Or is this a completely different procedure.

Female circumcision leaves permanent damage, even types 1a and 1b. Secondly, it's to "preserve a girl's virginity, and so they remain clean". While yes, there are medical procedures that involve an adult womem having part of their clitoris, and sometimes clitoral hood removed removed, this is disputed as a dangerous procedure, which almost always has unwanted negative side effects.
Male circumcision just removes a tiny flap of skin, with little or no detraction from the male's sexual function or health.

Except when you get a shaky as hell doctor who cuts off a chunk of the head :ohdear:
you know, once you watch a video of a real circumcision on a newborn you will not feel the same way again.
the babies go through excruciating pain and go into shock and 9 times out of 10 the doctors don't use a local anesthetic.
think about it this way: your eyelid being put into a metal clamp and being sliced off with no painkillers at all. when you are a newborn. its sort of like that. and thats the cleanest and quickest way to circumcise.
i just think of the poor kids who's parents make them get their foreskin cut when they are so young. Doctors don't even think its good for your foreskin to be circumcised when you are just born due to malformations that can occur.
even though you don't remember the pain, it was there. and you felt it because your parents wanted you to without your consent. not because they hate you, or wanted you to hurt, but simply because they were ignorant or wanted a blood sacrifice to their god you didn't even know existed. a rational person would be disgusted from the atrocity which is routine non-medical circumcision, a delusional person, a "sheep", would be glad these babies are being hurt for no reason other than for looks. sickening, really.
It seems no matter where you go all you have to do is say "circumcision", and a shitstorm will brew. It's actually quite funny.
I understand where these theists people are coming from, but at the same time... I'm not the familiar with US law, but doesn't freedom of religion only apply to actions you take upon yourself? A baby cannot make decisions, let alone religious ones. Let's take a look at this from a different angle.
What if some parents were so desperate to have a beautiful child that they want their baby to have plastic surgery? Obviously, nobody would think that's okay, but really it's exactly the same; the parents want something unnecessary and possibly dangerous done to their child due to something they believe. From a neutral perspective, there's no moral difference at all. The only reason circumcision is more acceptable is that it's a cultural tradition; just because something is widely believed in and has been going on a long time doesn't make it okay.
And so, the ONLY debatable issue here is whether or not circumcision is dangerous or harmful to the child. If it is found to be completely harmless, which I doubt, it should remain legal. Otherwise, it's gotta go.

its an interesting discussion and there are loads of ignorant fucks out there. it never turns into a shitstorm, only tons of name-calling and biased claims.
what this thread should've been focusing on is how humane circumcision is, not "oh i got my foreskin cut off and ive had no problems!!!!" or "dude girls love the mutilated dick B)".
The discussion was originally to restrict babies from getting body modifications that they have no say in.
If circumcision is ok, plastic surgeries, tattoos and piercings on babies should be ok too, since I as a parent want my kid to have them.
circumcision is not just about religion some people have to have it done for medical reasons besides this is retarded.
I'm circumcised and I don't really mind (obv didn't have a choice). Feels like I'm missin' out on somethin tbh but such is life in America.
I don't really think it's sensible to do it to babies. I'd rather had the choice.
In my opion people should be able to do what they want to there body.
Im glad I got circumcised. I think uncircumcised dick looks absolutely horrifying.
Or you just have poor hygiene?
I'm circumcised and I don't mind it but I do wonder if I ever have a boy if I'll get him circumcised or not.
i chose for circumcision wen i was 17. feels good man
Bit late, but I have to ask-- have you personally noticed any difference in orgasms before/after?

Yeah I was also circumcised when I was a baby, funny enough I was never told and had to figure out on my own.

There are kids beneath the age of 18 who are getting those...

Or someone has a different opinion and you can stop trying to act like your dick is magically better
Circumcision shouldn't be done till the person is capable of making their own decision
Yeah, age limit of 15 atleast.

But not babies, if you asked to tattoo your baby, they'd probably call you a sick fuck.
Yeah, age limit of 15 atleast.

I didn't say baby, did I? Some cultures around the world may very well do this, why is it inconceivable to you that they might? Some cultures have stretched heads and necks and have altered their bodies FROM birth. I'm not defending it, but what about them? Do you call them sick fucks?
My only problem with this discussion is that it instinctively brings out one side saying their dick is better than the others, that polarization is useless, I'm all for stopping circumcision not done for medical reasons(which it can very well be done for).
Haha ITT argue about penises. Honestly, who cares if you've got skin on your dick? If parents want to do it, then let them do it. It doesn't have any sort of traumatic effects on the children.
I'm circumsized and I don't give a fuck. So what if my dick had some skin cut off. Way rather it be done as a baby since I don't remember anything about it.
It's a piece of useless skin, it' like getting worked up over parent's cutting a child's hair
I didn't know I was circumcized until I was like 15 or 16 because I thought genetic differences made each dick look different. My parents aren't Jewish nor are they too religious, our family is is Protestant.
Kinda glad I am circumcised.
[editline]28th April 2011[/editline]
Also the Jewish covenant states that all Jews need to be circumcised and I just find that is the weirdest thing. I mean cmon, what religion declares "ok guys we need to cut off some of the skin of our dicks or else we'll all go to hell".
Because back at the time of the Jewish Covenant it was much healthier to be circumcised than to not be.
Apparently uncircumcised men are found more pleasurable to BOTH sexes during intercourse.
I should be put down by this with my circumcised penis, but I'm not.
I just feel like I've given a great gift because I'm the only person my girlfriend's ever had sex with, and some day later in her life she'll fuck a guy with an uncut dick and will have her mind blown. She'll thank me some day.
[editline]5th May 2011[/editline]
by the way don't argue about the pain the babies feel. obviously they won't be remembering shit, i don't. still there's those other bunch of ethical problems there
Well I don't have a dick but okay if you say so.
Fuck this fucking debate it doesn't matter. Let people do their own shit. Just get over yourselves and move on to more important topics, Jesus Christ, you guys act like you're these big white knights protecting babies or something. It's a practice that has lasted hundreds of years, and the reasons aren't just religious... Sensitivity is relative and so is aesthetic. Seriously. Arguing about dicks on the internet? And little boys' dicks at that? That is a concerning thing if I've ever seen one...
