But.....but...Battlefront 3? :'(
The age does matter, just because they made some good games back in the day doesn't mean their new games would be good, so far everything they've made recently has been garbage.
No, age doesn't matter because that wasn't the point of my post. His statement was Lucasarts produced nothing but mediocre crap, which is false. Yes, they made some bad games in recent history, well throughout their history. But Disney could have profited from them if they directed them to their roots, like a Jedi Knight sequel! Just because they made some bad game doesn't mean their new games would be bad.
can i shoot Bob Iger in the face with an AA-12
I wanted a new Day Of The Tentacle :(
EA doesn't micromanage the nitty gritty game design stuff DICE does. The closest they come is managing deadlines and marketing, which every publisher does. From what I hear from the two people I know who worked at DICE it's actually a pretty good place to work.
exactly. 100% agree with you
Fuck. I didn't play many of their games but I appreciate the legacy they left. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have a lot of the classics we now fondly remember. I'm kinda pissed off to see Disney do this.
RIP LucasArts, we will all miss you.
Suddenly Disney hands out the Star Wars license to Free Radical and a finished Battlefront 3 is released by the end of the year.
Suddenly Disney hands out the Star Wars license to Free Radical and a finished Battlefront 3 is released by the end of the year.
Free Radical no longer exists.
Free Radical no longer exists.
They still exist, but as Crytek UK.
I'd love to see Crytek do something with Star Wars. And before one of you say something like "No, that means it will be an EA game." Crytek is an independent developer.
Jedi Academy was probably one of the most memorable titles that came from LucasArts. There was also the moddability that was put into it by the users that extended the interest. There is this class-based mod called Movie Battles II that was pretty well-done by the community. Hm, this was uploaded on 2012. Which implies that Jedi Academy is still going, interesting.

-snip, words cannot describe my anger-
God dammit. :(
Tears
It's unlikely 1313 and Battlefront 3 will get cancelled. The Battlefront series wasn't made by LucasArts, only published by them, so that's likely going to be unaffected. While 1313 was an in-house development, it was due for release later this year so it's not like they're just going to say 'hey guys lets throw this nearly finished game that's worth millions of dollars into the trash'.
but that's what studios and publishers do. 1313 was never going to make the money they wanted it, so they cut their loses.
This is a good thing. LucasArts produced nothing but mediocre crap. This way they can license stuff to people who are actually making good games.
Are you HIGH?
BUT BUT BATTLEFRONT 3. Why, Disney, Whhhhyyyy!?
Grim Fandango, KOTOR's 1+2, Rouge Squad series, Monkey Island Series, Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, Battlefront series, Mercenaries 1, Republic Commando, Gladius, a good deal of the Lego Star Wars games, and PRE NGE Star Wars Galaxies + Jump To lightspeed would like to have a word with you.
Sorry. I meant recently. I don't really consider the pre 2005 LA the same as the after 2005 one. so what does this mean that any dev can just ask disney "uh yeah can we totally make a star wars game" and they can make it under the LucasArts license and make disney some doshage? cause if so that's pretty neat
I don't think Battlefront 3 hopes died with LucasArts considering they didn't develop either of the first two
Basically, yeah. This will just mean more Star Wars games that don't suck. If that means 1313 has to go...I think it's a fair trade. I hope they pick it up though.
My hopes are that Monkey Island gets licensed to Ron Gilbert and they make a "Retro" game. I want to know the damn secret.
My hopes are that Monkey Island gets licensed to Ron Gilbert and they make a "Retro" game. I want to know the damn secret.
damn, double fine studios/tim schafer should get grim fandango and make a sequel or something
I guess LucasArts hasn't been very good in recent years anyway. I've been looking forward to that next-gen Indiana Jones game with Euphoria forever, not that I was ever expecting to see it anyway.
That evolved into the Wii/ps2 exclusive Indiana Jones game "Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings".
I don't think Battlefront 3 hopes died with LucasArts considering they didn't develop either of the first two
Actually wait weren't Lucasarts the ones hindering development?
