stop trying to figure out what was there because nobody knows
Maybe that "something" that was there was God.
get out
Definitely possible. But why is it here? Why does gravity exist? Gravity is one of those mysteries science has yet to solve.
If you need a reason for the universe to exist, then don't you need a reason for god to exist? Then perhaps you should question why that reason has to even exist, and why that reason exists, and going off forever into an infinite regression of reasons with no original reason. Makes more sense to say the universe is just here.
Maybe that "something" that was there was God.
But hurr durr where did god come from
If we didn't die at some point I wouldn't really care why I am here.
get out
No, it's a perfectly valid point. If you don't have a legitimate rebuttal and can't contribute to the argument then why don't you get out.
If we didn't die at some point I wouldn't really care why I am here.
If you were immortal it would matter why you're here, but you're not immortal so it doesn't matter in the end anyway.
No, it's a perfectly valid point.
GOD CREATED THE UNIVERSE. I HAVE NO PROOF OF THIS BUT IT'S A VALID POINT BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY PROOF AGAINST IT what the fuck
Um...Wouldn't this make God the bad guy, having seperated heaven from Earth and thus making us have to act the way he wants us to in order to attain entrance? Yeah...
Maybe that "something" that was there was God.
Maybe, honestly, I've considered this. But there is no evidence for it so assuming it was god is completely illogical.

We are the only creatures on this planet with the ability to question our own humanity. I think we should question everything. Freud made a great point against religion, pointing out that since we are mortal the existence of a God is comforting to us.
In view of this reinterpretation I do find myself lending slightly more credence to the story than that of a creator While I do not really believe the idea of god as one 'being', I do think there is strength in the idea of 'god' being an entity, whether that's a species, a higher spiritual power or something else
GOD CREATED THE UNIVERSE. I HAVE NO PROOF OF THIS BUT IT'S A VALID POINT BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY PROOF AGAINST IT what the fuck
Hence why I said "Maybe". Learn to argue.
Goes to show how stupid we really are.
wut r u talkin about cats can not question their humanity r u fukin dum or somethn
wut r u talkin about cats can not question their humanity r u fukin dum or somethn
What the fuck do cats have to do with this? Okay. You're just trying to piss off both sides here. That's called a troll. Go away.
wut r u talkin about cats can not question their humanity r u fukin dum or somethn
And then I realized you are just a troll. :downs:
Um...Wouldn't this make God the bad guy, having seperated heaven from Earth and thus making us have to act the way he wants us to in order to attain entrance? Yeah...
That's assuming your God is a Christian God. I personally think all the ten commandment stuff is just made up to keep people in line. When I refer to God I mean the idea of something greater than just the Universe.

But were in an age of science and discovery where there is very little that has not been explained by science. It's time to grow up as a civilization.

If there is a god that created the universe, I highly doubt he gives the tiniest shit about us.
Yes, comfort is nice, I used to believe in Santa Clause and sleep with a nightlight too. Also, it's quite the opposite, very little has not been explained by science, but very little has not been speculated by science.
To say that there is little that has not been explained is to sit at a pond and say we have discovered all the world's water
We have an explanation for the origin on life on earth. Were learning about all this quantum mechanics stuff, universal stuff, stuff that people 2000 years ago didn't have the slightest clue about (germs, plague, chemistry). I think you're understating our achievements.

The Santa Claus argument I think is possibly a little moot, Santa is a thing made up (possibly like the Bible) to keep kids behaving good and to faciliate commercial sales. People who are on their death beds still believe in God, it's not something so simply made up. The idea of something greater I mean.
Can you not grow as a civilization with religious views?
What value has religion besides comfort for the every day man? What's so useful about it these days? I agree, it was for the best many many years ago (before the dark ages).
What the fuck do cats have to do with this? Okay. You're just trying to piss off both sides here. That's called a troll. Go away.
I was obviously being sarcastic calm the fuck down
What value has religion besides comfort for the every day man? What's so useful about it these days? I agree, it was for the best many many years ago (before the dark ages).
Is comfort not important?

But there will never be a discovery explaining exactly WHY things do this, why atoms form to make life, etc. [editline]01:29PM[/editline]
What value has religion besides comfort for the every day man? Religion had huge importance in the Renaissance and the Scientific Revolution, most discoveries were funded by the Catholic Church.

(Just one example of how religion used to be useful) [editline]02:30PM[/editline]
We have learned a lot, you are very correct. Your services will no longer be necessary.
