I have a friend who's fairly overweight. She often complains about not having an appetite and not being able to eat, sometimes for days. I want to believe it but it doesn't make any sense to me...
"I haven't eaten a meal in days!
Ooh, those look nice. Time for another snack...
Snacks don't count, right?"
Nah brah, cut your calories by 500+ and watch your ass shrink. Keeping amount of physical exercise the same I can fluctulate 10-25lbs in a matter of weeks by changing my calorie intake by 500-2000 calories. Exercise simply adds a larger net loss of total calories burned.
As someone who has done that; it doesn't work for everyone. I wish it did, though.
I was on a gluten-free diet for a month (testing for gluten allergies).
I ate non-breaded chicken and fish, with plain rice, for the whole month.
No sauces of any kind, only drinking flavored water.
I averaged ~1000 calories per day, didn't lose any weight after a full month of 1000 calories per day.
Exercised a bit, but really lacked energy for the whole time.
if only food wasnt so good at the cost of being terrible for you and loaded with salt. this country is not doing enough to educate kids about eating healthy along with providing good quality healthy foods in cafeterias. my school has fucking cheeseburgers, fries, pizza, chicken sandwiches and all that. guess what people buy? only the unhealthy shit because it tastes better than the healthy alternative. I would actually love if they had salad more often in my school, salad is fucking great with a little ranch on it.
More like if only there was food that tasted like other food but didn't have fats or calories or whatever.
I don't think humanity is responsible enough for that yet. People will die of starvation because they only ate the fake food and not real food :v:

I cut soda out once nothing happened, so I went back to drinking it. I'm not gonna give up my favourite drink if it has no impact either way.

You're gonna have to forgive me, but I'm a bit skeptical you actually counted your calories properly. Either that or your lack of energy severely decreased your TDEE in which case you were eating at maintenance which would make sense, but then you'd have to be a really really small person to have a 1000 calorie TDEE. Calories are quite literally the only thing that matter in weight loss, there's an experiment where a guy ate only twinkies and still lost weight, as he was below maintenance calories.

How long did you cut it out for?
Hey, skinny people lie to scientists too. About their crystal meth habits.

Yeeeah I don't think you counted properly. Your body doesn't have an unlimited source of energy to perform all of its functions, so it's going to get them from your food, mainly. And if you don't eat enough, your body will get it from other sources, namely body fat and muscles.
Basically I'm saying you still ate too much.

There's also the documentary where a guy ate only fastfood and lost weight that way. And he also debunked the shit out of Supersize Me. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_Head
Stopping soda was the best healthy descision I ever made. Now I can't even finish a can because its gross to me. I didn't lose weight (Cause I was 125), but it was still highly beneficial.
No more caffine headaches, no more weird sleep patterns, no more sugar crashes, no more "caffine doesnt help me stay awake because i have it 24/7 anyways" thing.
Now I drink maybe it once a month and on finals week. That once a month is when I get bought one and I don't want to be rude.
Also soda dehydrates you so its like anti-thirst quenchers.
I love coffee and never get coffee side effects
I think a big part of the soda headaches is that insane amount of sugar
How long did you cut it out for?
It was somewhere around a month, not a very long time, but I didn't notice any changes.

Soda is my favourite drink, soda and water are the 98% of what I drink, the rest being the occasional milk, and rarely punch or orange juice. Without it I only have my water.
I used to drink almost nothing but soda, I'd drink 2-3 a day every day. But now I drink less than one can a day on average, the vast majority of my liquid consumption is water.
It's simple when you look at the science of weight loss.
Energy output needs to exceed energy intake. Fat is stored energy as you're eating more than you're using. Work out how many calories you use in a day then eat less to lose weight.
I've lost 2.5lbs a week for a while now, currently at 40 lbs lost.

I remember I used to drink a shitload of IRN-BRU and holy fuck I would have so many headaches, I drink mostly water and occasionally concentrated squash but soda is kind of disgusting now. Water really does taste nice.
Also yeah, the dehydrating effect really puts me off soda.
I'm not particularly overweight but I can see why some people might not mind being that way. If I weren't into cycling I'd be 230 pounds and sure as hell wouldn't want to torture myself to fit in with someone else's idea of how I should look. If you get to a point where you're unhealthy fat that's one thing but in reality it's just as unhealthy to be too skinny.
99% of fat shamers are probably lanky teenagers who eat anything and everything they want and don't get any exercise outside of their walks between classes and just ride on their ridiculous adolescent metabolisms, and will turn 19 in 4 years and get hit hard by how difficult it is to maintain a "healthy" weight

Actually a lot of them are former fat people themselves. I was about 230 at my biggest and from a fat family, but I decided I didn't want that and dropped about 70lbs through diet and exercise and have kept it off for years. Don't think I'm riding an adolescent metabolism at 24 either.
People don't fat-shame because they have it easy, they do it because it's easy for anyone to lose weight and there is no excuse. Just some simple changes in diet, a few hours a week of exercise, and some basic knowledge of nutrition is all it takes. It's by far the easiest and best thing you can do for your health and wellbeing.

Yep exactly, I used to be fat and now being 20 where for the past 2 years I have worked my ass off at the gym intensely 5 days a week while religiously counting my calories/planning my meals whether I'm cutting or bulking it's annoying for people to make retarded excuses and think your just lucky. Nope sorry it's actual hard work stop making excuses kids and get fit.

How did you stop drinking soda? Did you quit cold turkey or slowly drank less and less?
I'm getting fat so last night I threw out all of my garbage food (booze, chips, cookies etc).
I've already cut out soda but I drink a shitload of coffee which probably isn't helping.
I go to the gym, albeit moderately infrequently, mostly for cardiovascular reasons though.
feed the obese people to the starving

good job cutting soda. It helps a lot
drink more water
my weight is around 80 kilograms and I'm 1.78cm tall.
Been doing the liquid diet and so far...
I've liquidated everything that's on the table. Es ist alles gut.
Water is the greatest thing ever invented
Fat people who lie about eating food don't make sense to me. You can lie to a scientist but your body knows.
I think it makes perfect sense. it's easier to live with something you hate about yourself if you tell yourself there's nothing you can do about it.
Cutting calories alone is not a healthy way to lose weight. Your body will start to eat away your muscles and not fat if you do not exercise. Eat a healthy amount of calories a day, and use exercise to create a larger calorie deficit. I've been on this regimen for about a month and a half now (keeping a food diary as well, with help from the myfitnesspal app) and I've already lost 12 pounds.

Cut too many calories and you will end up either not losing weight or gaining it even. Huge possibility of him cutting too many calories.

this is a good way to go. contrary to popular belief, you cannot gain muscle and lose fat at the exact same time. supplement a more balanced slightly-over-calories used diet with a workout regimen is the best way to tackle fitness and health in one go
How did you stop drinking soda? Did you quit cold turkey or slowly drank less and less?
for me i stopped drinking soda out of circumstance -- as college rolled around, i had no car, so what groceries i could get became limited by what i could carry. soda is very heavy, so i couldnt buy it.
additionally, being a cheap asshole furthers my distance from soda. the extra cost dissuades me from getting it at restaurants, so i opt for water instead.
eventually i just got disinterested with it -- my last soda was probably over half a year ago(and before that, about half a year too)

Coffee doesn't make you fat, right?
I eat healthy, I eat loads of vegetables like pizza and hamburgers
Coffee doesn't make you fat, right?
Actually, caffeine boosts metabolism, so it could potentially help you lose weight. It's water, so if nothing else you're losing any water weight you might be carrying.

Your body taps fat reserves well before it starts eating away muscle, that sort of shit is 2 weeks of no food levels of starvation.

Seriously as long as you're not slamming back multiple litres of the stuff a day then you'll be doing good.

This post is rammed full of fallacies. Just because being too skinny is unhealthy, doesn't negate the fact that being a fat fuck is inherently unhealthy.
