No thanks. I don't want more government telling me what to do. Keep the feds out of my blueberry fields.
What, so that you can keep underpaying Turkish immigrants to do it? No thanks.
Czech Republic reporting, you don't want this to happen if you're in small euro country. It's Soviet union all over again.
Actually, to be honest It would do wonders to countries like Poland or the Check Republic. And I'm not talking about the Soviet Union.
Realistically no one in this thread 'has a say in this', and you are in no position to impose rules on the discussion here.
Just nitpicking here, but given there are some Europeans here, not 'getting any say' is exactly the problem. I suspect we're not going to be asked if we want to be a part of a federal Europe, even though it is just the thing that should be put to vote.
yes because the euro is doing so well right now
Ok, I can't really quote the walltext, but seriously, Borbonic revisionism? There isn't a single serious historian who will tell you that the Kingdom of Two Sicilies was more advanced, richer or with better standards of living that of Piedmont. No one's saying that North Italy didn't royaly fuck the South after the Unification, but it wasn't through sacking and sapping of national wealth. It was through shady deals with the Mafia, not caring for the incredibly poor 99% farmers of the Reign and awful reforms that were meant for the North and not for the South. All farmers in southern Italy lived in poverty, squallor, oppressed by nobles, landowners, criminals and mafiosi, plagued with malaria and earthquakes. Just because the incredibly rich nobility built the first, really short, railway in Italy, it doesn't really make it advanced.
The BRIC nations will continue to care what EU countries have to say because that is where the money is, the UK is the largest investor into Brazil, the UK has good links to India and China (hong kong) and Russia is on Europe's doorstep. Also the EU as it exists now is a significant power, consider the joint military exercises by the UK and France, the military expansion of Germany and the huge projects the UK has, what more would federalism achieve? I mean, the EU already represents all 27 states at the WTO, for example.
Money goes two way. Investing in someone means you have something to lose if they don't make it. The political and economical weight of future China or Brasil or India will far outclass any European country: Germany, France, the UK and Italy, the biggest economies in Europe and among the top ten in the world, are already falling behind as it is. It won't take more than three or four decades before the focus of economic power switches from the USA/Europe to Asia. It's inevitable. On one hand you have a plethora of small countries who are all (Germany included, even if they don't like to admit it) living far above their expenses and a really big country falling into decline. On the other you have young, populous states with less laws protecting labor, a big part of the world's natural resources and an untapped and undeveloped internal market. And talking about military, the war efforts of the single countries are not really on par with other superpowers. We have technology and experience, but we don't have yet the numbers or the willingness to actually make a European Army, which would be nice.

I suspect we're not going to be asked if we want to be a part of a federal Europe, even though it is just the thing that should be put to vote.
I mean that although the public opinion of Europeans as a whole matters, the opinion of a single European does not, in this thread, simply by virtue of being in Europe.
What, so that you can keep underpaying Turkish immigrants to do it? No thanks.
Yeah sure. I'll take it you know a lot about my country or Europe in general seeing as how you live in Canada. Also, not all immigrants that come to Sweden are from Turkey. That statement alone is pretty racist. When I wrote that my point was and still is, that a federal Europe is not in everyone's best interests.
an idealogical sense of unity between all people that is sorely lacking. this is a step towards that i think.

Racism is the belief one race is superior to another.... a stereotype is not that.
Are stereotypes not racist then? So I guess a lot of people were not offended by the recent movie; "Django Unchained" because of it's blatant stereotypes.
Racism is usually defined as views, practices and actions reflecting the belief that humanity is divided into distinct biological groups called races and that members of a certain race share certain attributes which make that group as a whole less desirable, more desirable, inferior or superior.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism A stereotype is the manifestation of racism. Because you judge someone based on their appearance or "race". Pointing out their flaws and laughing, saying. "this is what is wrong with you and why we are better". Not that I want to get into a debate over racism. Actually, I consider the fact that everyone always have to be so politically correct, ridiculous.
Actually, I consider the fact that everyone always have to be so politically correct, ridiculous.
Why am I not surprised
Why am I not surprised
What is that supposed mean, do you know me or something?
certain race share certain attributes which make that group as a whole less desirable, more desirable, inferior or superior.
Important part: just saying that most immigrants come from Turkey, is NOT something that makes that group less desirable. Unless you think that the mere fact that coming from Turkey makes a group less desirable, in which case that would make YOU the racist, not him.

Unless you think that the mere fact that coming from Turkey makes a group less desirable, in which case that would make YOU the racist, not him.
No, I'm saying that assuming all immigrants here are from turkey is insensitive to some extent. Why are you quoting the information I got from wiki as if I wrote that and sincerely believe that. But hey I'm suddenly a fucking racist just because I made a post that was intended to be a bit humorous. In fact it comes from the fact that the EU has already tried to enact laws that clash with Sweden culturally such as trying to make "snus" illegal here, even though we have always had this tobacco product and it's part of our culture. Just like how they have tried to prevent us from eating traditional fish that we enjoy on holidays. It's ridiculous. But hey you already think I'm a racist, so fuck me, right? Even though I have many friends who are not "ethnic" swedes and half my family is from Chile. Racist people in this country would see my immediate family deported or worse. I would probably get thrown out too because guess what, my grandparents on my mothers side are immigrants from Finland. I'm sorry for the rant, but you assuming I'm a racist person offends me because that goes against everything in my life and what I believe in.
