Fuck yeah settlers of catan. That game is hella fun.
brb, moving to new york
it'll make them want to be a physicist/whatever. but because they can do it in the video games, they wont...
Terrible idea imo
Anyone who can learn from video-games is already smart.
See? This is why the New York tristate area is better than everywhere else.
This idea works great up until about age 10, then kids need to learn how to actually study. Also, this idea isn't as new as you think. There's a lot of homeschool curriculum for young kids based off of games.
I did a research paper last year about using games like this. I don't see how LittleBigPlanet is going to tech them something but educational games are very powerful teaching devices.
They won't learn shit.
Pretty much. [editline]10:27PM[/editline]
Half-Life 2 for science class.
Garry's mod for physics classes. Used for demonstrations.
If games should be used as material in the classroom, they should stick to edutainment games. Also, FUCK YEAR
I recall in kindergarten I would play a video game where I was a fish of some sort, and I lived in a city. I'm not quite sure it was educational.
Freddi Fish? I loved that game. :3:
If games should be used as material in the classroom, they should stick to edutainment games. If they did this right it could be quite successful. Playing games like Civilization and Rome: total war would have been awesome to do in history class.
It wouldn't apply to high schools. Primary grades only
Fuck, missed that part. Oh well, this really isn't anything new, then, we used to use videogames in my elementary school all the time...albeit they were all terribly scripted Mac games, but still, games nonetheless.
"but they get equally serious time with digital tools ranging from Maya 3D modeling to Adobe Flash. If anything, Q2L students may emerge as some of the most digitally savvy pupils of their peer group." I want this!
fucking loved math blaster
Hearts of Iron 3 for history class. Holy shit.
oregon trail all night bitch
We need a push for actual technology in schools (NOT JUST SPENDING 20 GRAND ON COMPUTERS AND LETTING THEM ROT IN A LIBRARY), but i feel as if this is the wrong way to do it.
was the most advanced game when I was in elementary I'd love living through high school again if it meant playing Call of Duty for history class and Gran turismo for auto shop class shit would be so cash High school would be interesting if your auto teacher just gave you an assignment like "Get less than 2 minutes average on a lap on this course using any car using the FR format and manual transmission"
yo im all for educational reform of this shithole otherwise known as the "NY public school system" but using videogames is not the way to do it i remember those jumpstart games that i used to play and i didnt learn shit. all the kids in my school do is play games. why today in study hall i had to listen to some kid tell me eugenics was a good idea, he probably thought this up playing COD4 all afternoon [editline]11:49PM[/editline] my school still needs chalk and tissues not videogames [editline]11:50PM[/editline] actually fuck it no amount of reform will ever save the NY schools unless they totally start over so whatever
This will never work, why do people even think this shit up?
I remember when I played an educational game when I was 5, it was point and click, but you played as a dog. I clicked on a star and a frog kicked me to the moon, where I gained a helmet. I then figured out a quick puzzle and took a rocket back to the dog's house.
I like where this is going.
Where's Scribblenauts for English class? [editline]08:17AM[/editline]
If games should be used as material in the classroom, they should stick to edutainment games.
i'll raise you Good old math blaster
Darn you.
Class-wide multiplayer games of Civilization (emphasizing player versus player, as opposed to computers, obviously) would I think be an excellent way to teach kids a variety of things such as strategy, diplomacy, and thinking ahead and would be a very interesting window into personal and diplomatic relationships
best school ever!!! :q:
i played fucking zelda when i was a kid, dunno why you played fucking math games...
