Canada has shitty weather; come here to California.
I live in Toronto, snows 3 months a year.
Then it's just moderately hot the rest of the year, with a bit of rain.
Oh and we actually have enough water to support our population.
Nah come to New Zealand, it's closer.
No. I know what you guys do to sheep over there.
No. I know what you guys do to sheep over there.
poor sheep, they where just expecting a shearing but then... :ohdear:
a bunch of people from the internet should personally invade australia
EDIT:
and make it the internet capital of the world... fast internet speeds, no policies on downloading ('cept for cp). and no banning of games.
So Australia now joins China in having a national firewall to censor the internet. Are they the only ones, or does Germany have it too?
ARGH!
That's it! The children here are fucking stupid, the weather is inadequate, the beer is WARM.
Fuck it, I'm leaving.
I think you're talking about England :smug:
actually, scratch that, Australia sucks.
Fine, I'm moving to New Zealand. I like the cold anyway, and I like fush and chups but I'll need to book another seat for my computer...... Oh and if your on steam and are Australian join this group for no reason.

Poor Australia.
You guys have the new Robert Mandleson.
oh doesn't matter, optus said fuck off to conroy so I'm safe.
Fucking bullshit. If they do this i'm going to leave. Our government are the new hitlers..Fucking censoring our internet..WE PAY FOR IT! That's like buying a child exactly what they want and telling them they can't use it.
Telstra claims 5ms impact at most for a 10,000 entry filter!

THE GOVERNMENT IS GOING AHEAD WITH THE FILTER
SEE THE PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENT IN THIS GROUP
*********************************************
Today, along with the ISP filtering pilot reports being released (see http://whirlpool.net.au/news/?id=1852), Telstra has released their own report on ISP filtering.
This report was done using a simulated environment, as with the government's trials. The trials were performed using a blacklist of 10,000 entries and a simulated 1.5Mb/s ADSL service.
The report concludes that "Allowing for a typical figure of 10 DNS lookups on a moderately busy web page, user experience (for a page not on the blacklist) would be an additional load time of 5ms. This would not be noticeable to the end user. In addition, these queries are often issued in parallel, further reducing impact to page load times."
In other words, "The outcome of this testing showed no measurable difference between browsing via the Blacklist blocking solution and browsing using normal DNS infrastructure."
But of course, Telstra's report along with the government report both admit to circumvention being quite easy for anyone "technically competent".
There are a few things that you can breath a sigh for - Telstra concludes the report saying that a filter would work under the following conditions:
• The size of the Blacklist doesn’t exceed 10,000 entries
• The Blacklist doesn’t contains pages from “heavily trafficked” websites

Mmmm, I wonder what this will mean?
Have fun gaming with that, chaps! I do say, I expect many of you to make the swim to my fair New Zealand before long. I for one wouldn't stand for it.

It means you don't know how to quote or link to sources.
Anyway, I have a feeling Face Punch may be banned to any Australian users in the next week.. I will never have the chance to get a gold membership.. *Sobs*
Thanks for reposting my own post here :sigh:
Its not the same as what you posted anyway.. Its saying how it is making things slower....... Pfft
They're actually going to go through with this? Surely this has to be political suicide?!
Labor was elected in on 2007, and the elections take place every 3 years.
The majority of the Australian population aren't exactly people who are unhappy about this - I'd expect a large proportion of the 30+ age group to be in support of this. After all, "child porn" and "protection" are wonderful covers for anything related to censorship.
I mean like child porn and that should be filtered but god. Well does the Politic Year start ASAP? If it does we only need to wait a few months! 2010 will be the next election then! =D I am one happy boy!
Great, looks like I'll be buying a subscription to VPN service then :colbert:
I don't understand why people don't boycott this.
I am.. and i dont live there...
Nobody should be told what they can and cant see... I mean there are a FEW things there that should not be seen... but you know what i mean...
And it can be abused - they better allow people to see what sites are blocked...
I can so see this as being abused
