Kevin Rudd has fuck'd us over since he came in.
Why cant he go yell at a waiter on a plane or somthing.
Because its just the
I feel for you, aussie dudes :(
Why don't you guys do something about it? Take the streets and start protesting for God's sakes!! :hist101:
There used to be a time in this world where the government of a free nation censoring the media would provoke a violent revolution.
it was a prison colony, now it's going back to that. slowly.
This is ridiculous.
This makes me one very sad human. :(
1. Play Mirrors Edge
2. Become Runner
3. Fck tha poleec
4. ???
5. Profit
... I'm sorry. I couldn't resist. Sucks for you guys though, move to America.
I'd say Canada, but they just banned talking to Children on the Internet.
Telstra claims 5ms impact at most for a 10,000 entry filter!

THE GOVERNMENT IS GOING AHEAD WITH THE FILTER
SEE THE PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENT IN THIS GROUP
*********************************************
Today, along with the ISP filtering pilot reports being released (see http://whirlpool.net.au/news/?id=1852), Telstra has released their own report on ISP filtering.
This report was done using a simulated environment, as with the government's trials. The trials were performed using a blacklist of 10,000 entries and a simulated 1.5Mb/s ADSL service.
The report concludes that "Allowing for a typical figure of 10 DNS lookups on a moderately busy web page, user experience (for a page not on the blacklist) would be an additional load time of 5ms. This would not be noticeable to the end user. In addition, these queries are often issued in parallel, further reducing impact to page load times."
In other words, "The outcome of this testing showed no measurable difference between browsing via the Blacklist blocking solution and browsing using normal DNS infrastructure."
But of course, Telstra's report along with the government report both admit to circumvention being quite easy for anyone "technically competent".
There are a few things that you can breath a sigh for - Telstra concludes the report saying that a filter would work under the following conditions:
• The size of the Blacklist doesn’t exceed 10,000 entries
• The Blacklist doesn’t contains pages from “heavily trafficked” websites

Mmmm, I wonder what this will mean?
yeah 5ms but for how many clients? either way 5ms is still to much because what we get now is still fucking ridiculous to the rest of the world. I pay for 20mbp/s internet and get the speed of 8mbp/s fucking bullshit this place is.
Fuck me. I knew the Australian government officials had their heads up their asses, but this is going way too far now.

You get that speed because of the distance you are away from the exchange.
I'm supposed to be getting 4MB/s and i get 500KB/s cause i'm 5km from the closest exchange.
And someone needs to set up a protest.

Is what I'm saying. Aussies, wake up!!!
ARGH!
That's it! The children here are fucking stupid, the weather is inadequate, the beer is WARM.
Fuck it, I'm leaving.
B-but they say in the adverts that your beer is extra cold... Still, Australia's a nice place to live if you don't want your child exposed to horrific imagery like (god forbid) a bare arse or even some (dear god no) cartoon gore.
I won't say "I feel sorry for the australian people" because I know nothing pisses me off more when someone says that about Britain, but I will say that it sucks that this even happens at all.
Is what I'm saying. Aussies, wake up!!!
But if I do it and 5 people turn up, then i'll look like a loner...
I believe that censorship in any form is bullshit, and this is really the greatest censorship they could possibly introduce (despite how easy it is to circumvent). This essentially allows the Australian government to censor websites at their discretion.
How troublesome.

I'd join you in Sydney.
I think organisations like GetUp, Anonymous and the Pirate Party have organised protests in the past, but they need much more exposure.

I'm sure once they realise how detrimental this is the already shit internet speeds we have it will be taken away and deemed a failure.
IMHO A cool way to protest would be -unless you guys don't want to gather round somewhere or whatever- not to use your Internet access for exactly 24 hours or more. I mean 0% Internet activity in all Australia.
We did that down here once as a way to protest against ISPs trying to implement the Gb caps crap. Not exactly 0%, but a pretty good number of people didn't use any Internet that day and it hurt them like hell
In the end, it worked (for now) :P
Just my $0,02
Our ISPs are nazis, it costs me over 100 dollars a month for 60gbs cap, anything over is incredibly expensive.
It's fucking ridiculous.

$40 AUD / 5 GB
Is what I have. Aren't I lucky?

TPG is a good Australian ISP.
At the moment you can get 60gb+60gb for $120 per month.
I have that and it's a great ISP
The Labor party was going to give us faster net. I guess that was just to cancel out this shit.

That saves them money. You still pay for it but you don't use it.
I got 45gb + 75gb for $110 a month with iinet. Hasn't fucked up yet so it's better than Telstra.
That saves them money. You still pay for it but you don't use it.
I think the idea is that you're saying: "Fuck you we don't need internet, if you keep this shit up we just won't use internet at all."
That saves them money. You still pay for it but you don't use it.
Even though you're right, for some reason they just didn't like that almost anybody was using the internet that day so they backed off...
Really weird, but it worked nonetheless :/
I have 60GB for some obscene amount with Telstra, however they now seem to be the biggest bunch of lying collaborators with the filter. I feel so dirty.
Everyone knows Telstra is evil.
Everyone knows Telstra is evil.
It sucks that I can only get Telstra in my area.
It sucks that I can only get Telstra in my area.
Same, the reason being that the Rudd government withdrew funding for more backhaul solutions from the exchange i'm connected to.
Assholes.
I get 50gb/month, the 60gb plan has an excess usage fee attatched at $150 per gigabyte you go over.
Insane.
