Sometimes doing nothing is better than trying to satisfy this community.
Actually this version sounds waaaaay better than just simply fcking up the AK.
plz change the ak back to normal
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I tried the new recoil already, in my oppinion it's pretty mild to deal with in close quarters, but if your trying to spray at someone from 50m+ you're better off using short bursts. 100m+ and your best off tap firing.
if you can't learn to tap fire, then maybe go play call of duty, since that's more suited for your play style.
bye!
Anyone bitching about the AK should be looked into for hacking or scripting, because all us that didn't use Recoil Scripts are still firing it the same way and have no problems whatsoever.
It seems to me this whining is because the new recoil broke your little I'm Awesome at AK script and now your pissed off!
Agreed, I reserved my Judgement until I tried it out myself. Is it Random, yeah, but not to the extent that these kids are making it out to be. it still has a pattern, but I think the devs just added a Minor case of randomness to see how scripters would react. these kid's scripts became woefully inaccurate because of the subtle randomeness. Their once, laser accureate script now has the recoil pushing into random directions. and since they NEVER Compensated or practiced. they can't aim for shit. Maybe the devs should do the same to the other Weapons.

double barrel is better than pipe
Exactly, all the guns should be balanced off already. On another note I think that the primitive weapons could use a damage boost.
Probably is a dumb thought, but I wonder what making the ammunition you use determine the damage velocity and distance, while the guns themselves determine Rate of fire, accuracy, and ammo capacity, Recoil being determined by a combination of both. weaker rounds causing low recoil. armor pearcing/High velocity rounds causing more recoil but High damage.
This rebalance was much needed. Before, the AK was the choice of weapon for any player to use over any other weapon in the game. Why? Because it was the best. The recoil was fairly easy to learn, and with some practice a competent player would be able to pull off full-auto bodyshots from 100+ meters away. It negates the benefits of of the other top-tier weapons, and made it much more difficult for individual players to take on groups that would spam AK's.
Now, the AK is still powerful, but it's been delegated to the role it was made to fill; close quarters, fully automatic, high damage but low accuracy. This will promote more balanced gameplay, as a majority of the other firearms have suddenly become competitive in comparison. Want more accuracy but less damage per hit? Try an MP5 or Thompson. Want the damage and accuracy but like taking your time to re-aim between shots? Go with a Semi-Rifle/Pistol. Do you like ambushing players and putting them down with the first hit? Practice headshots with a Bolt-Action.
As for the argument 'the AK in real life is super accurate!'... incase you didn't notice, this isn't real life. This is a game. Called Rust. Gameplay balance takes priority over realism.
And to those who are quitting the game because of the AK re-balance; if it took one change like this to ruin a game for you (mind you, a game that always undergoes major changes), then I really don't care if you're actually leaving or not, and the majority of other players don't care either. If you return or never left in the first place, then alright. I hope you're able to adapt and continue enjoying this amazing game with the rest of us.
I quite like the new AK recoil. It's a bit harder than before, which was an absolutely necessary change, and the pattern was changed so that you can no longer easily laser beam burst people from 100 meters away, which was also an absolutely necessary change. The pattern is pretty much the same otherwise, just amplified. It's not that hard to control in full spray and get a decent grouping at some range. Having the most powerful gun in the game be the easiest gun to control was just BS. I'm glad they changed it. It might need some tweaking but it's a really nice change overall. Other weapons are more viable again.
I like the MP5 and the Semi auto Pistol the best to be honest, gimme one of those and a Sniper rifle and I am ready to war
go around with tomphsons
Is that why 90% of people spray with the ak on 100+ meter and still hit most shots? Either make a system that detects and bans scripts like that or remove the pattern for the time beeing until that ban system is in.
you should report all people like these...and then see what happens...
Would love to know why they changed it, it wasnt broken at all it just took some decent time to learn how to control it and maybe it wasnt the AK that was broken. You should fix the LR or maybe add another gun that you can craft that takes 556, there was no reason to change it. You cant justify it theres no logic to the change at all maybe if there was another gun the wasnt used at all so they changed the AK so it would make people switch the the gun thats not being used, then it could be justified. I dont see why the change was made, it should have just stayed how it was when RUST left Early Access with a learnable recoil pattern so that people could learn to use the gun, not start spraying and hope for the best for the first 15 shots. Its crazy man.
The AK was changed because it was too good. You could use it for any situation. It rendered weapons like the Bolt Action Rifle pointless, as they just couldn't compete against the AK. While it still is a powerful weapon now, the AK is now less impressive at long range, and forces you to fire in bursts to hit targets reliably.
The AK didnt compete with the bolt at all, if anyone one was decent with the bolt they would completely understand that. Now you cant even burst with the ak you can only 2 tap now and its awful after that 2nd shot.
The Bolt Action is a very situation weapon. It also mostly relied on the x4 Scope to be able to use it at max range, where it excels. Meanwhile, players would get good enough with the AK that they could reliably kill players with long burst of fully-automatic fire at long ranges. There's a reason why most skilled players preferred the AK over the Bolt Action for any situation.
Also, you missed my point. I was saying that weapons tailored for a specific role were rendered noncompetitive because the AK could fit any role and do it either equally as well or better than it's peers. If a game with this much pvp has a weapon that is better in almost every regard than any other gun, then that weapon is overpowered and needs to be nerfed and changed so that it fits it's intended role.
Nowadays, if a player is getting angry with having poor results with using the AK at long range, perhaps they should begin looking at other weapons that fit the role better, and leave the AK for close-range firefights where it belongs.
2 things to note here:
-That's an ak74u by the looks of it, the shortened variant of the 74n designed for cqc. The lack of the full stock and lower weight contribute to it's massive recoil. A normal 74n will have virtually no recoil.
-Rust isn't exactly the most "realistic" game. Approaching this discussion as such is not constructive.
Now I personally don't like the fact that recoil constantly changes. Sacrificing gameplay for the sake of catching a few cheaters(which is really an unnoticeable problem on most servers I play on) won't improve the game.
Except that the AK wasn't nerfed because of cheaters. It was nerfed because it was too powerful of a weapon compared to all other firearms in the game. A cheater can do well with any gun that they get their hands on. They would choose the AK because it was better than using anything else.
Sa says mr I know everything:

This is your ak, i dont really see a difference caus the holding point at the back is weaker on this one.
Your saying shit as all of your retarded pro ak kids do
...aaaaand where does it say that?
At least I said that AK was nerfed because of cheaters - I admitted it was a speculation and explained why I think so.
You on the other hand are just saying nonsense.
"ak-47"
i said ak 74...
If you pay attention ingame, you'll see what I mean. Why is the AK the choice of weapon for everyone to get in the game? Why would anyone prefer an AK over any other gun? Because it's better.
Facepunch has already tried changing this weapon in the past because of game balance. To think that it has nothing to do with that shows poor reasoning.
yes, but in the game where we have more then (at least) 2 guns - and we have much more than 2 - of course there will be "bests" and "worsts" and "somewhere in the middle".
Its like saying why would anyone prefer HQM walls/base (or metal) over any material type? because its better! (stronger!).
Also the term "everyone" might be a bit of an exxageration (just like not "everyone" perfers to make HQM bases, even though that would be the best logical choice if you wanted to build the strongest/safest base). HQM is somewhat rare and hard to get.
In that Regards LR-200 is a better gun, but its much harder to get, (and its not craftable)... so the AK is simply the next best (and widely available) gun. Its a high tier (end game) gun. Just like a SAR is "the best" mid-game (mid tier) gun, and I bet we can find someone who would argue otherwise. But the SAR is hands down the gun that is called "jack of all trades - master of none". And the AK is somewhat like that - in the next tier up (in the automatic weapon class).
So first of all, saying that "AK is the best gun" does not mean anything, as that is taken out of context. Saying that its "the most accessible out of all the highest dmg and end game guns" - yes, now we're getting closer. But its not the best gun - by any means.
HQM bases are a poor comparison and you know it. Seeing how expensive they are, any player is much better off going with sheet metal bases than HQM ones, since HQM is almost impossible to get in large enough numbers to supply a base without using a HQM mine. On top of that, while making an AK is expensive, it's a one time deal (apart from repairs if your gun is used that often) while HQM bases require daily upkeep to stop them from decaying apart.
Also, if we're comparing the LR-300 to the AK, then the LR falls short. The idea behind the LR is that it does less damage per hit and over time than the AK, but in return is more accurate and thus better for longer ranges. In practice, this doesn't hold up, as the AK would be able to still work at these longer ranges, and thus do better than the LR-300 because of it's better alpha damage and DPM. Otherwise, you'd see more large clan's actually using LR-300's that they find, rather than let them sit collecting dust in their loot room.
The only weapons that I feel could be picked over the AK for specific situations are the Bolt Action, Pump Action Shotgun, and the M249. However, the first two weapons are highly situational; the Bolt Action doesn't have the ROF or reload time to compete in close quarters and mainly relies on the x4 Scope to use it at maximum range, while the Pump Action can't be used for long range combat or for taking on multiple opponents. As for the M249, it's quite powerful but is hampered by a long reload time and extremely powerful recoil.
As for comparing the AK to lower tier weapons, my feeling is that while the AK should generally be more powerful than weapons below it, it should still have weaknesses that players with loweer tier weapons would be able to exploit. For example, if the AK was actually bad at long ranges, then a SAR user could choose to engage an AK geared player from across a large field in order to 'level the playing field', so to speak. In reality, this doesn't work, as the only weakness that an AK has is its high cost compared to other standard firearms.
So yes, it's perfectly reasonable to say that AK is the best gun in the game at this moment. If it wasn't, then there would be more variety in the weapon choices that clans and large groups would make. And as you pointed out, there will always be 'bests' and 'worsts' with firearm choices. However, when you have a best weapon that has no practical drawbacks (apart from cost) and renders any other firearm choice inept, even the other top tier weapons, then that weapon is unbalanced and needs to be fixed.
