This is why people play in pairs/groups. Think about it for a second; doing everything by yourself is going to be harder and its going to take way longer. Have a buddy with you and that workload has just split in half. Sorry man but the game should be this hard, if not harder and it gives the game substance

I've the same pb with debian 8. Other have not but use 9 ans 9.2
This game started off as a sandbox. Now its full of rules and ways the developer can control the flow of gameplay. 2k plus hours until you butchered what was once a masterpiece.
You should also invest time in developing player model selection. How you derived to the conclusion to tether steam ID's to a skin is beyond a joke. Unless this has been rectified(not likely) then I apologise. I won't run this game unless its to play Legacy.
You know there are legacy servers out there right? And videos on how to play on them.
"Oh no I can't customize how my character looks" Really?
Of all the good work they're doing, implementing Ai, tiering the maps, doing balance changes, doing loot changes, etc. You decide to focus on the fact that you can't chose a char model? There are different models, take what you get.
"Now it's full of rules and ways the devs can control the flow of gameplay" oh, you mean balance? Making the learning curve less steep? Implementing new interactive gameplay elements? Slowing down progression so servers don't die in 2 days?
They are the devs they do w/e they want, it's THEIR game.
We're lucky they're not the likes of DayZ running away with the money, the keep releasing content every week, keep us updated of what they're doing, fix issues we mention to them and much more.
I would insert an insult, but it would be unecessary, so here: Want to play legacy? Go right ahead.

Here are a few suggestions from me which I would better do differently.
Please no Tiers (Maps). Everyone now runs to tier 2 area from the beginning.
With 250 people on the server that can be quite exhausting.
Hardly anyone builds their base in Tier 0 or 1 and if he did, he had no idea.
Not everyone read the dev blog. Everywhere should be the same chance for good loot.
All new players should start at the edge of the map. Randomly, one of the four directions.
Or it makes sense to let the players spawn everywhere. Most of the players build their
base where they are spawned. Not everyone runs near a street or monument.
And so it's better distributed.
Make the ladder hatch cheaper. Every player wants to build a base from the beginning
according to his ideas, but that will not work if you get the ladder hatch in the mid/endgame.
Why is this item so expensive??? Nobody starts to build another base in midgame
just because you can now craft the most important components (solo player).
The same goes for the ladder. We need 2 ladders. One for raiding and one for base building.
The raiding ladder has to be more expensive than the normal ladder for base building.
Furthermore, the costs (scrap) of some items are far too high for solo players.
A Clan (4+) will always have everything, whether the Workbench3 costs 1250
scrap or just 500 scrap. But the solo player has almost no chance of getting 1250
scrap without having been raided several times before. Apart from time needed
for farming or recycling. Anything that costs more than 250 scrap will make it
almost impossible for the amount of items to get them as a solo player.
And so the clan is even better equipped with better items, weapons and ammo than the solo,
duo or trio players.

Actually, recoil will differ greatly between standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone. This has to do with bone support and muscle fatigue over time. I was in the USMC from 2006 - 2011 and can attest to this first-hand.
