This is most likely caused by my unique set up, but what do you make of this?

Might help if you define "unique set up".
Oh sorry ^^;; running Windows 7 64 bit ontop of Linux Mint 14 using a virtual machine.

Linux dosnt have unity support. AHEM let me rephrase. Your base kernel (linux kernel) but you are able to play thanks to your windows kernel and OS. i suggest dual booting your machine with react OS or look at unity's site and see what OS's are supported. OR if your like me you want a way to get it working without doing any of the other things.
i guess you could try toying with your video drivers? not sure.
Yea thats very strange. it looks like water isnt rendering at all? ( i take it your at the edge of the map? )
The atmosphere/sky is a hemisphere, which ushually goes below the water level, but yea without water rendering thats what you'd see
Well, I don't mind it that much I suppose. It looks really freaky when you're on top of a mountain though. Looks like you're staring into the void o-o. And I refuse to dual boot windows... you see, a long while ago I had to re-install windows because of an issue I was having. I thought I would just get all of the drivers off of Asus's site and everything would be fine and dandy... ehhh... didn't work out that way. So after numerous more re-installs, I learned that I could probably get my laptop back in working condition if I purchase it's driver disk from Asus for 50 bucks... my reaction: lolno. That + me learning that steam was beta testing a native Linux version... well... I kicked Win 7's ass to the curb and installed Linux Mint 14 MATE on my laptop. I guess it's made a small return though...
Anyway, yes I'm at the edge of the map. I don't think there is much to do though :p
Also, what is react OS? @Other-person-who-replied
its a free os thats kinda built to be a windows-alike it will run windows programs. never tried it but if it has a windows app capable kernel to it. it may run unity fine. il dual boot this laptop with it later and get back to you on my findings.
Mmmm... just did some research on react os, and tried the live cd. Looks pretty un-finished, and doesn't look like it will be able to run rust. Also, the issue is most likely caused by the VM's graphics driver, they aren't really made for gaming. And you can't use normal drivers in the vm, because the ATI driver installer can't detect your graphics card. Anyway, with the last update I noticed turning seemed to be abit smoother and less delayed... Which made me happy ^^.

yea sorry forgot to get back to you on it. and yea its an in alpha OS XD. i heard about it a whiel ago and was told it would run windows programs. stumbled on it when i had to use whine on linux. and yea it was a wild guess, was trying to help.
If you REALLY need it i have a spare windows 7 x64 ultimate key. all youd have to do is get a cd.
or if you want xp i can pluck a key off one of my old machines.
Nah dont worry, I have an actual windows 7 64 bit home premium addition and the proper product key. I'll be fine using Windows 7 in a VM, but thanks for the help! You're real nice.
ah, well mine ive got no use for windows 7 sense i am on windows 8 on both my laptop and desktop. all i can say now is the best i can guess is not enough RAM or not a good enough GPU/CPU in wich case i have a Radeon HD 5750 im not using XD was my old card but i have no need for it. rather it get put to use than sit around and rot.
