• Blueprints on the steam store? A bad idea or the Baddest idea?

I love the idea of tradable blueprints. Not only does it feed my hunger for loot, but also allows progression of my character irrespectively what server I'm on. Players will craft, trade and sell any tradable in game item anyhow. If not on steam, then eBay or any other platform as with other MMOs. Rust still being under development, it's OK for the devs to try out every idea they have. The verbal spasms many have here shows they've forgotten or never understood what this stage all about.
I don't see what's so wrong about this. Sounds awesome to me. How is this bad if it's just cosmetics, seriously?
The reason it is so bad is because before all this shitstorm, the devblog told a different story. The original post looked like this Which talks about a lot more than cosmetic changes. It looks like the community has been listened to (a little) if being able to trade base guns is taken out of the equation. For that, I thank facepunch.

People aren't reading the reddit post Garry made, the person I quoted stated that after Garry's reddit post/news post edit. Just trying to make it more clear.
I disovered Garry put something on Reddit thanks to this topic. I'm not sure many people are aware there are infos there. It's not the place...
So, I'm hosting a Server. Spawn 1000 Supply Drops, Wolfs, Zombies, Robots... Kill them with/without my Godmode and sell all items on the market. Well... I dont like that idea. Items wont be worth apeshit, u can buy the allINone pack soon on those key selling sites.

It's nice to hypothesize about what *could* happen depending on how the blueprints are introduced, but all the speculation in the world will not make you the least bit correct until you try the actual implementation.

I agree with MordecaiW, untill its implemented... who knows... As a long time legacy player, I got tired of picking up blueprints and throwing them away... If I could trade them... maybe I would have kept them. Coming from legacy,, if you play on a server long enough and smart enough the game becomes boring and all you end up doing is building another base after another base. Not because there was anything wrong with your last one, just because there is nothing left to do. Raiding gets tiresome once you have box after box of C4 and you can craft everything that is ingame... Let the developers develop.... anyone who payed for the game more than 3 months ago has well and truely got their $20 worth. don't complain, wait and see what happens....and never forget.... you can allways develop your own game if you do not like this one, and consider the $20 well spent as a learning tool.
Blueprints, not items.
Pretty sure he means blueprints even though he said "items". I imagined you to be smart enough to realize that. Also, if you don't reply in this thread at all and then say 3 words to some guy choosing the wrong words you leave the impression of not caring about the actual feedback or not taking us seriously. And I know you do. So that's a shame

And I know you do. So that's a shame
Garry is doing just fine here. The people who are still complaining aren't reading the updated posts he's made. Garry has given plenty of feedback, especially on reddit. Go read this: http://www.reddit.com/r/playrust/comments/2jle2z/so_do_you_like_the_steam_inventory_idea_or_not/ I doubt you'll be able to get the special comsetic blueprints from the gameplay in the server itself (that would be stupid), it'll probably be a random dropping system like TF2. The server will have the findable base blueprints, which is what you'll need to be able to craft your special cosmetic ones. Also, Garry typing 3 words on his forum doesn't give the impression of "not caring about the actual feedback". Look at my join date. When I first started out around here (back in 2005), Garry worked for a dating website and through every revision of Garry's Mod, it was shaped partly around the community. Rust itself wouldn't even be here if he didn't take chances through his career. I don't understand why people can't just trust him not to fuck us. There is tons of feedback coming in, so it's hard to reply to every single comment people are making. Especially when people are just repeating the same thing over and over. I don't understand why he wouldn't just post his reddit thread here, that's way more useful
He should say what he means, then, because he sure as fuck sounded like he was talking about items and accusing the system of being pay-to-win.
I meant Blueprints, arent these items? Arent my inventories full of items anymore? Are they full of Weapons, Food and whatsoever? I never sayd its gonna be pay to win. I more think, that it will take out the fun BUT I STILL KNOW that if its shit, it wont stay. I trust in garry. Thanks.
A global inventory is basically like your Rust character having an internet account while in the world of Rust. Items can be traded like ebay, safely from your computer, out of world. No risks, no worries, no ambushes, just trading blueprints like you're e-trading on the stock market (while the game itself is supposed to be a survivalist / minimalist game where you grind out all your accomplishments). Very bad idea for this game. Great idea for games where it's modern, and maybe a player can look at his smart watch in world and load the steam inventories and trade out of world. At least that would go with the theme of the game. I remember running a server which leaned more toward less pvp and more towards a community and trading. So many people were up in arms about the idea of trading being safe being a game breaker. There should be risks, you should never know if you are trading with a good person or someone setting you up, etc. Although I disagreed with that idea, this marketplace idea takes all risk out of trading blueprints. With blueprints on the marketplace, there is absolutely 0 risk of dying while trading. You can trade (or purchase for .15) with someone you have never met face to face in world, no risks, no effort, no in game time, nothing. Literally, a survival game where you are trading for the ability to do things in world, without ever being in world. No technology, nothing left of the old world, yet internet access so you can research and make anything you want to make at the drop of a dime (literally). Regardless of starting fresh again, on a new server, as a totally new character, you will still have all the internet abilities to make whatever you want from previous lives (lol -- talk about an absolutely asinine idea). And on top of that, totally safe from the risks of any in world game play. A totally safe trading marketplace. Funny that this idea will be acceptable yet people will still talk about reality or how Rust can't have certain guns because that would be fake. Yet, having google/internet/trading on a market place out of the world is totally okay. [editline]20th October 2014[/editline] I just read the reddit reply. If the global inventory means nothing without the server blueprint being found, I don't have a problem with that. If that's the idea. But if you find the blueprint in world, it would always be global because that's how it gets global to begin with? Unless the blueprints you get global are not given in world at all but random like the card system and basically you only get 3 per game purchase unless you buy a pack that gives you three more. So is this just way to generate more revenue for the devs? Serious question. The idea at this point is confusing with everyone having different takes on how it will work.
I think MalekTaktak said it best in his response to Garry's reddit post: http://www.reddit.com/r/playrust/comments/2jle2z/so_do_you_like_the_steam_inventory_idea_or_not/
It's like playing a game of football and working your butts to strike goals while knowing that the other team can just buy free kicks from the referee.
Edit:
Blueprints, not items.
At least we know that Garry is monitoring this thread, (even if his response is somewhat dismissive and unhelpful). I guess the best we can hope for, is that he takes on board the huge community backlash, and at least thinks long and hard about IF and HOW this should be implemented...
This is just a disgusting deal with Steam to cash in more cash with a game that's not even done. Tell us Garry, what percentage do you get from Steam for the money coming in in the Market? Please if you do this, you can just release the source code to Legacy Rust then and we'll fix it up and get rid of the hackers it will be much better than Rust 2 I promise.
Vachon644: did you not read any of the previous posts or references to Garry on Reddit? I think this thread will go on forever, with uninformed people and trolls just popping in, jotting down a few illiterate tin-foil hat theories or flames, and then chuckling quietly to themselves as they leave. It is truly sad how folks do not read anything today.

So a pair of burlap trousers would be a server blueprint.. and a pair of jeans would be a global blueprint. The jeans wouldn't offer any significant advantage - it'd be mostly cosmetic.
I think this "mostly" just says it all : You will be able to buy, sell and trade items that will be better than the standard items so YES if someone was to say.. buy 100$ of these items and get them all, there would obviously be an advantage. However how small this advantage is : the game becomes unfair unless you played for 1000 hours and found by yourself all those blueprints (which will most likely be hard because you will play against fully equipped payers). I think this is a very slippery slope. I am fine with the cosmetic part of it.. very offended by the "jiggled attributes" and "mostly cosmetic" part of it.
Tell us Garry, what percentage do you get from Steam for the money coming in in the Market?
Pretty sure it's 10%, I saw someone drop a link to Steam concerning this in another thread.
I see many saying that having the blueprints is no problem as you still have to farm. Well, that's the easy part, you just go and kill people + take some of the stuff on the road and you go back and have all of it. There's not that much fun in changing servers anymore if you have that, it makes it easier which I and I think many others don't like. You go on a server you are the only one that has certain blueprints ,people start making offers and all that kind of stuff which promotes player interaction while with this you just go on the market buy all of the blueprints and you're done for life. Now , we will just see how it is and they will probably remove it just like they will do with the 3rd person.
Now , we will just see how it is and they will probably remove it just like they will do with the 3rd person.
I doubt 3rd person will get removed. I do use it for looking through walls though, quite a few times its helped me locate a sleeper, or find out whether a door was worth breaking down.
I doubt 3rd person will get removed. I think it should be removed too, but I doubt it will be.
People don't get the cosmetics to mainly see themselves but for others to notice how cool they look or funny or w/e. I'm curious of what they will do in the end, 3rd person was hated since it was announced, I doubt that changed too much since then.

You can't just walk into any server and start crafting kevlar and C4 instantly because you have blueprints for alternate kevlar and alternate C4. You still need to go find the base blueprint for C4 in-game on that server normally, and then acquire (by farming or looting from dead naked bald men) the materials to craft it.
I doubt 3rd person will get removed. I do use it for looking through walls though, quite a few times its helped me locate a sleeper, or find out whether a door was worth breaking down.
This'll be why it's removed if it's removed by launch, looking around and through walls. Although, your camera should likely be prevented from clipping, which it probably doesn't check very hard for right now, as a way of removing the hard-exploit aspect. You'd then just have the soft-exploit factor of being able to see around corners. Oh, hey, look at that. Just call me Steve McLatelate of Clan Lateburgers.
Ah, then it was my bad, I thought once you have them in your steam inventory you just own them on every server. Then that doesn't affect the gameplay at all besides making them some more money from the sales.
Here is how I understand this system. For me, it is best to think about it in the terms of CS:GO's weapon skins. You will have a loadout page: Here you will set up the blueprints to use for each item. Replacing the default version with the one you got in your steam inventory. Ok, I have my blueprints set up and I have a really cool AK blueprint. I join a fresh wipe server and gather resources. I can now craft my AK because I own the blueprint right? WRONG! I haven't found an AK blueprint on the server yet! When I do, I won't make the stock version of the AK, I will make the version according to my loadout. So in the picture below is 2 AK images. the first is the upgraded blueprint, the second is the stock (hypothetically).
