So how does one repair a broken leg?? --Sorry i haven't tested it yet ;)
At the moment you don't really fix it, you just crawl forward (crouched) in 20 seconds trying to catch up with your friends while yelling over voice "You've left somebody behind... behind... STOOOP!!!"
(- and it fixes itself...)
The 'breaking of your legs' Its a temporary injury that slows you down for a period of time. You're pretty much a dead man if you do it in PvP. The health damage does seem to be a little high from relatively 'low' heights. Falling from a one story high foundation does a bit of damage and falling from 2 pretty much wrecks you. It's reasonably realistic but I'd like to see a little more leeway in the fall damage.
Having said that though... if there is to be a perk/skill system later implemented (One of those things you have to choose as a player instead of something else) where you can choose to increase your resistance to fall damage it might be just about spot on as is for any starting character.
As a side note... when running/walking down a slope and jumping, the fall appears to be less but the damage seems to be more injuring. That could just be my imagination though. And is the ground/grass a little greener than before or am I imagining that as well?
I don't understand why this hasen't been implemented earlier, tbh. It's supposed to be somewhat of a survival game. Everything out there can kill you, even your own bad decisions. I think it's great.
I haven't tried the feature in game yet, but of what I've read it seems like it needs to be nerfed somewhat(?)
I agree. the fall damage is a great add on and all but i fell off a small boulder about 3 meters high and lost the rest of my life. i then lost my spawn, and about 1000 wood. i was upset to say the least. after i re spawned i was on my way back home when i broke my legs several times before i ran out out band aids and bleed out.
It seems like it's a great addition towards rusts game mechanic's, but from what people are saying all they need to do it assess The damage over fall distance ratio
As Garry said: Test it out over a few days and give an accurate evaluation on what needs to be changed ;)
Built the base on high mountain and screwed now lol
I shot someone today and he got scared and jumped off a mountain trying to run away and died lol
This is part of the alpha. Play with it for a few days to see if you change your mind.
Please don't try it for 20 minutes then decide you hate it and try to get us to change the game. It's not how this process is going to work - and we're going to end up listening to you less in the future.
Understood, but if you're going for realism, a 2m jump shouldn't break your femur.. or anything for that matter.
I'm all for falling damage, I just think that it either needs to be toned down by 50% or the minimum fall distance to take damage should be increased to ~4m.
What Rust will now look like...

I mean seriously Garry, whats it going to look like?

What he said. Damage is way too high. I find it hindering when jumping from rock to rock on the hills.
I agree with the idea of adding fall damage to the game, but losing half your health and bleeding when falling from 7 feet is just a tad bit excessive.
I get that they wanted added realism but some things just dont translate well into a game setting... realism != fun
I love the system, but maybe is too hard now, just that.
People don't like change, don't complain. New features will be added all the time. It's how it works, this game is still in development and people think that it is a complete game, it's not. I am so tired of seeing these posts where people complain about new features that make the game harder. I am glad people can't jump off their 4 story house and chase me as a nude... They actually have to go down their stars and such.
Sounds about like the guy crying for dying after jumping 10 meters...hello that is THREE STORIES!
Jumping 2-3 meters can seriously hurt you if you land wrong as well.
Lets just document the damage acquired at different heights and refer it back to garry. Anything above 10 meters should not be survivable anyways. I mean seriously...what are the chances of you running away from a 9-12 foot drop? COME ON PEOPLE whining over damage at 3+ meters is just ridiculous.
4m - 20% damage
5m - 30% damage
6m - 40% damage
7m - broken legs/bleeding/45 sec cooldown
8m - broken legs/SEVERE bleeding/5 min cool down(death if bleeding not stopped)
9m+ - DEATH
I have killed and been killed by the falling damage. I've noticed two problems with it, one is a major one.
Bags (when people die) have a high chance of just disappearing when they die from fall damage, the bag just doesn't appear, and from what I've seen their body does too. Secondly, (this may not be true) but the armor your wearing should have some play into fall damage if it doesn't already. Bare feet will get hurt a lot more than something as sturdy as kevlar boots IMO, maybe you'd have to fall a little further to START taking damage while wearing cloth, leather, and kevlar boots?

I don't really follow that logic. A set of Kevlar boots isn't going to protect your leg bones from the crushing force of gravity as you make contact with the ground. They just protect your feet from environmental hazards like sharp rocks or heat from a small fire.
If we want to start adding those kinds of hazards to the game (other than the cold system they have now) then maybe it would make sense for your armor to be factored into certain forms of damage from your environment but not for fall damage. If anything, armor might INCREASE fall damage due to the extra weight it's adding to your body thus placing more strain on your legs at the moment of impact.

Has anyone tried to provide a scale for how tall a one story house is, for example, assuming foundation on level ground? I think it'd be nice if damage was on a 'player built house story' scale, as it would provide a good standard that can be guesstimated in game. It also would help guide base-building (how tall do I have to make a wall that would kill someone who scaled it and jumped down?).

i love the feature however will you be making the distance to kill your self higher or will you be adding an item which can help with lessening the damage
If we're going this way, because you want it so bad to be "realistic". Why not adding slow depending on inventory? Full inventory = full damage?
i think the fall damage is perfect. yea it might seem like a bit much at first, and yes i have died in full Kevlar from falling, but its perfect. the only thing i think should be changed is that armor give's you a % reduction to fall damage.
p.s. might even get more ppl to put pants on
They should make it so when you have broken legs you just can't sprint. Not make you move like a snail. ( I'm a little annoyed I was running away with the airdrop and couldn't get away fast enough )
I like it and i do not think it is too extreme. You can walk off a one story house without damage but not jump off it is what i have noticed so far. If there is a problem with its implementation i would say the weak point is the map itself.
It was great watching everyone walking in circles like a chicken after jumping off their base's when i logged on yesterday and then forgetting about the fall damage myself and joining the flock at the bottom.

Just like with any building/structure one level should count as one story.
My first impressions: It's pretty terrible. I just don't see why such a big change was needed. You can't walk off a rock without worrying about breaking a leg or half of your health depleting. I absolutely love the rest of things in the update, but I strongly feel that it takes away a chunk of the fun that the game has to offer. :suicide:
What do you guys think?
Edit:
And yes, I think it's certainly better than people jumping off of 10 story houses and being fine.
Garry is trolling us, they give us huge ass rocks to jump off then added the break a leg thing......
:D
Still no where near as bad as DayZ
